Goddamn it, now I need to kick another puppy to rebalance the karma meter.
And this is why we know it’s true when we hear that a lot of human communication is non-verbal.

Yeah, there is a lot that can’t be said with words, really is funny how communication works for humans, our eyes can tell us a lot more about someone than their words, being able to see someone’s stance or posture, their eyes specially tell a lot, there is a reason why human faces are so difficult to replicate realistically in terms of photorealistic renders, we always can spot what is wrong because we are so hardwired to understand human faces, or even just the tone of someone’s voice, their volume, their intonation, everything adds up to give us a lot of information and it is kinda nuts that we can just understand without putting a conscious effort into it
So I just reread N’s route and I may be in the minority here but I enjoyed it a lot. Granted I’m an N main so I am a little biased. I thought there was a good amount of depth added, new sides to the character that makes the evolution of your relationship (if you agreed to one) feel like natural progression. I’ll admit I did think the reaction to the “I love you” news drop was different than how I pictured it but my head cannon is that they are at a loss for words. Did anyone else enjoy their N route?
Did anyone else enjoy their N route?
I did. I think it wins over F’s route in this book, for the first time.
I think the only romance that topped Nate’s in book 3 was Mason (who is always my 2nd playthrough) who’s character growth in the romance edged Nate out this time around.
I agree with this ranking. With N3 just edging out F3, and M3 being absolutely ridiculously bonkers good.
N is my cannon romance as well, and I was happy with it. I think the only romance that topped Nate’s in book 3 was Mason (who is always my 2nd playthrough) who’s character growth in the romance edged Nate out this time around.
Nobody Topping nobody. All romances are Good, everyone has a preference. Everyone’s preference is Good, there is no ‘bad romance’ or ‘great romance’, they are all good.
Now let’s talk how much M romance suck!
I do love the commentary from F and M during N’s route hahaha. The amount of teasing they give the MC and N is just glorious.

N2 has literally two parts I remember: the final scene at the ferris wheel, and when you can break them by joining in on M’s comment about their thoughts about the Detective not being “proper”.
My favourite routes:
B1 is basically nothing much for anyone; M wins on account of being the best character, and on the “pheromones actually work” surprise during the patrol.
B2 is an F win, between how giddy they are about being in love, the badassery of staring down the much bigger kiwis, and the massage debaucle - they just want to do something nice for you. YMMV on the paper planes. M2 comes second, between agency acknowledgement and that bonkers rooftop scene.
B3 is VERY CLEARLY M’s book, and it isn’t even close. Everything works and comes together for the best book finale so far. I’d say N3 comes second, due to the photograph misdirection, which is good foreboding. F3 is very close to N3, but I’m honestly wondering if there was a bug at the time I played F3 because I could swear it had less scenes than the others.
Did anyone else enjoy their N route?
I did, except for the few small problems I’ve already mentioned. I’m more worried about where N is going than where they’re at right now. I held off on the I U in this book because I want to see what all the mysterious mysteriousness is about.
And I swear they didn’t roll in my first two playthroughs. Then, they suddenly started popping up again all over the place. Had gotten excited that the lip rolling had retired in Book 2.
And then at other times in the story they turn a “cool emerald green”, I believe. Emerald is not a light color so I’m not entirely sure what’s going on there. The “cool” descriptor means lightened deep green, perhaps?
See, I think M is such a dick in b1 that his only redeeming moment is the sexy scene at Murphy’s lab…but he definitely grew on me pretty quickly in b2, and is now my 2nd fav. N was my fav in 1 & 2 (And will remain my cannon romance) and he’s lovely in b3 as well… but you’re right, M’s b3 was just perfection. F has the exact personality I had in highschool…so while I think his romance is cute, it skeeves me out a bit for that reason. I enjoy A’s character but I am not a slow burn fan…and his is the slowest burn I’ve ever read. It just frustrates me (as does LT) but let’s be honest…I will still always read everyone’s romance several times through so I can see every tidbit of every path because I am a freak like that.
I agree with this ranking. With N3 just edging out F3, and M3 being absolutely ridiculously bonkers good.
I liked N better than F in b3, too. Not sure if it’s because it was that much better or because I’m getting to the point where I find F grating, though.
B1, my fave was M. Really, looking back, they all kind of sucked in b1, due to all the lying. N was better than the other three for the fact that N didn’t want to lie–but failed because they didn’t have spine enough to stand up to A about it until Murphy already had some of the MC’s blood.
B2… I like M best. N deciding to wait until after the mission for a date reminded me of Kaidan mentioning regs after sex with Shepard in ME1, and anything that reminds me of Kaidan needs to be punted across a football field.
B3… M is the obvious winner. Dimmed by what’s coming, but it was awesome. After you guys pointed out that M wasn’t the one taking half a shot, it was even better…
After M, I’d say N is a very far second. F is somewhere below that. And A is sitting in the lowest layer of hell, burning…
Furniture does get broken on A’s route if you work with Rebecca. The MC can hear it over the earpiece if they flirt with the auctioneer.

I have no idea. I think she just wants to use certain words for the metaphor, not because they actually make sense. That’s just my take on it, though. The thing with A’s eyes makes no sense at all, unless they change color.
See, I think M is such a dick in b1 that his only redeeming moment is the sexy scene at Murphy’s lab
M was a dick, but the bluntness drew me (and my MC) in, whereas N was dancing around the truth, F was being a mannerless prick, and A was the absolute worst. Well, like I said before, they all sucked.

That’s funny. My A-mancer did get that scene and it was kind of funny. I want her to leave Rebecca behind so she can be at the auction, though. I didn’t bother diving in the code for anyone’s route but M’s, and want to see what happens with A.
Aww, Kaidan go boom
I think M is such a dick in b1
F and N are the nice ones at the start, yeah. There’s a reason my organic play results in an N BFF in any route where they’re not the RO. Still, M still doesn’t top the shitlist, because SOMEONE ELSE has the fucking gall to chastise you for spending 2 minutes consoling a grieving mother because “it detracts from hunting the murderer” while sitting on the murderer’s actual photograph*.
Really, looking back, they all kind of sucked in b1, due to all the lying.
And also not much happens, relationship-wise (not “relationship” as in romance, “relationship” as in the “way these people are connected to each other”). B1 is nearly all “meet the archetypes”, which, fair.
After you guys pointed out that M wasn’t the one taking half a shot, it was even better…
snrk Also, ooooh, a new format tag , yay!

Oh, thanks. I mean, I’m still not seeing it because that would require me to flirt with a slaver, and I’d rather frenchkiss the captain than do THAT, but it gives me hope that something will break in B4 as well.
The “cool” descriptor means lightened deep green, perhaps?
I think the descriptor change might be metaphorical, with “cool” being an upgrade from “icy”. Does it show up when A is nicer to you (in preparation to be an even bigger asshole)? I don’t care enough about the A route to pay that much attention to it.
*this is why I’m surprised when so many A-mancers reach the end of A3 and go, “oh no, A is so terrible this book”. THIS book? What A does this book is the same thing they did in the previous two.

I mean, they’re all kinda settling into their respective, albeit adjusted, tropes:
A: ice queen/ice king who will resist their feelings until hell freezes while giving mixed signals
N: the nice one with a dark side we have yet to see
F: the over exuberant “kid” of the group that has no manners or ability to read a room
M: the horny moron with a heart of gold… once you can find it and get them to stop flip flopping from stupid and horny to decent
After you guys pointed out that M wasn’t the one taking half a shot, it was even better…
I reread this part and M might as well be staring into the MC’s eyes before taking a shot. Almost like a dare:
Why would this reaction not be part of the game/response to the question? It’s not like M likes “animal food” which would include something as astringent as alcohol. A shot is pure alcohol, typically. It isn’t a cocktail.
Also, no more “shivers of wanting” in the story, please.

The cool emerald gaze seems to appear when A is turned on by the MC.

puts on mining helmet Gear up, lads, we’ll have to dig deep for this one!
Saruman voiceover: The M-mancers delved too greedily and too deep. You know well what they awoke in the darkness of Morgan-dûm: affection and love.

Then it’s probably metaphorical, going from “icy” to “cool” signifying a warming up of A towards the Detective.
