Doing another fact check, who did sera say had the deepest voice out of the four again? I always choose a male group, just trying to remember again.
N.
Also, F has the “best” voice, but N is better trained at using it, though not at a professional level.
I mean I am pretty sure it was in the first book it says explicitly that it is only Echo Born Vampires
Straight up went to Book 1 and replayed it to get this, I have near photographic memory so I can remember little detail like that down to the smallest bit of information, I remembered this was a very specific thing that Echo Born Supernaturals in general tend to have more powers than their human born counterparts created on Earth.
Same here, which is why I mentioned it way up the thread.
If used correctly, the soul bond could be used to explain the things that annoy me about the way the MC is portrayed (fluttering heart, even when your MC is more stoic, the constant physical reactions to every little thing the LI does, no matter how minute, being so in tune with the LI’s emotions, even when people skills are nonexistent).
If there’s a reason for those kinds of ridiculous reactions–and that reason is the soul bond–it makes a ton of sense and totally works for me, though it’d be nice for the MC to start noting how strange it is (especially when it’s antithetical to the MC’s personality). Having the soul bond be the source of all that would not only make the over-the-top stuff work, it would also be pretty freaking genius from a writing perspective.
And while I’m on that same track, having Murphy’s “tweaks” to the MC’s blood be the source for some of the other seeming nonsense–like almost insta-healing from being crushed by bricks, for example, or having @JBento’s MC doing jump kicks with absolutely no combat skills–would be equally as awesome. More and more, I think it would actually be cool if, by the end, the MC doesn’t have to be turned into a vampire to become immortal and their blood with Murphy’s additions makes them the first ever human immortal. Of course, they wouldn’t find that out till the very end, after discussions about changing them and such.
I agree. I’d love to see the whole team, A included, showing a consolidated front against some of Rebecca’s nonsense. Interestingly, though, I noticed a blip last night where the MC noted that Rebecca talked to them professionally, with none of the “I’m your mother!” crap, and that was before interrogating the Trappers. That was a nice change! Too bad she’s still a liar.
Idk bc I replayed the second book recently prior to this one coming out so I could do the saves, and in M’s route if the supernatural with the disease approaches your mc it says one thing in the text about his fangs coming out?? I didn’t screenshot so I can’t remember properly lol
Hmm true. Guess we’ll have to wait and see. Unless if it’s worked out so that it’s more indirect.
I just trawled through tumblr - apparently, the official answer is that their canines elongate (this is not a second set of teeth):
Additionally, natural vampires (like F) have 6 fangs, 4 at the top and two small ones at the bottom, whereas human-born ones have the standard-issue 2.
That’s an extra +1 for them in my books, now see N would be my favorite if it weren’t for their flowery way of talking, English isn’t my first language and probably my least favorite. So I appreciate how blunt and straightforward M can be.
Speaking of M, I’ve seen people saying M is Sera least favorite character, which is hilarious because it reminds me of Vegeta from DBZ. The author really hated his guts but Vegeta ended up being his best written character and most popular. You shouldn’t be writing a character this good is if you don’t like em.
I can’t wait to see what M back story is, and see them speak Greek.
just something that popped in my mind…
someone up there asked about the Blood Mutation the mc has. We also know there were others and Murphy killed them.
Now, we also know the mutation isn’t due to your parents genes.
And the chances of being born a special snowflake is very very low.
Which would leave another option: Cult + Kidnapped+ Ritual= Mutation.
That also could suggest a few options:
1- Rebecca was kidnapped while pregnant.
2- Baby Mc was kidnapped with others babies and experimented upon.
3- Rook isn’t your father…
Now, Go! (I have to go hand my ass to MTG Boss…Grrr, I will win damnit!)
Unpopular (i hope not) opinion:
N was not N in this book
That would be a little too wild sjdhsj at this point I’m thinking the mutation is just something which happens at birth, like heterochromia etc etc. Also if Rebecca is our mother because of hair color, and we’re following that logic, then Rook is 100% our father because of the eyes.
Do you mean characterization wise?
Holds a water squirter at you
I need answers
@E_RedMark Those theories are wilder than the tax money they take from my paychecks. I don’t know about those buddy
Imagine how silly it would be if that wasn’t the case though. Rebecca goes “Your eyes are exactly the same as his.” while knowing Rook isn’t actually our father. I know that’s not the case, but it’d be pretty funny if it was. Darkly funny??
“That’s why we adopted specifically you, the colours matched.”
No, that’s still Douglas’s mum.
Plot twist, Rebecca is not your mother and the hair thing was just a lucky coincidence (/j… unless?
no I’m joking) ((that would be so bad though, worst mom of the year award sdhsj))
I feel like everything about book 3 N contradicts what’s been written in the past two books…but I think this post on Tumblr explains it better than I could
English is my first language and I much prefer M’s bluntness, as does my M-mancer. For me, N’s flowery speech is a turnoff, as is their prudishness/judginess. Were it not for those two things, I think N might be my favorite.
That’s hilarious.
Do you think M’s memories will come back to them? Or will we just learn from UB? I’m hoping the former is part of the problem in b5, with the MC being the key to helping them past it so they don’t have to be locked away. I’m not sure it’s a great idea to deal with trauma by blocking it out that way…
Those are valid points. I disagree about pool table sex being out of character–it’s been said that N is nearly as horny as M once they are with someone. That said, I think it would’ve fit M or A (an impromptu kiss or hot flirting) more than N using that as their first time.
I do agree that N is really starting to throw up some red flags with their refusal to be open with the person they supposedly love. I find it odd for someone who is so up front about how they feel, and it does seem to be out of character for them, but I think their weirdness is plot-centered. Things will move when Sera has decided they will in the plot. The romances are plots, so things will happen with the ROs when the plot dictates it, and they have to be dragged out across seven books. I imagine most of the romance-related plot stuff will come to a head in b5 or b6, so they’re all in a “good” place in b7.
Except for F, anyway, who is already in a good place and will stay there.
After reading the tumblr post, I think op’s issues with N’s route are similar to some points different peeps have brought up in the thread. Alas characters sometimes acting differently than what has been established, probably because things can’t stay too solid otherwise what are we going to do for another four books (this being the author’s perspective. Since maybe she’ll go back on M’s progress, too.)
I didn’t have too many problems with N’s route, but that’s mostly because they’re not my main romance so I don’t “know” them well, since I didn’t replay their route multiple times like I did with A and M.
Plus I think it’s more of an issue with how N’s route progressed that made it feel ooc.
F tells N in either book 1 or 2 that they’ll have to open up, meaning what we had seen until then wasn’t all of N, so this change doesn’t surprise me plot-wise.
If we’re talking romance-wise, tho, I do agree that certain choices felt like a 180.
I’m reasonably certain that literally every therapist is very sure it isn’t. And that’s even BEFORE the blocking is done by a limited-capacity crystal that needs to be periodically-cleansed and neither you nor anyone you work with has the skill to do so.
mum captured by demons has entered the chat
Yeah, I’d say I don’t know wtf the Agency was thinking when they decided to handle M this way, but their incompetency answers that question.
This actually made me think of Sanja’s scene in b2 with M:
“You should be careful,” Sanja says, her voice echoing around Mason. “A bond like the one you two will share—one that will last an eternity.” She hesitates. “If the coming darkness makes you break…she may willingly break with you.”
Heh. The bond… the soul bond.
Do you think F’s mom is really dead?
