With all the choices to be antisocial, have negative views of people, and be angry an various things; is it possible to make the detective a misanthrope over the course of the story?

I don’t remember her saying that! Oh N has many layers it seems. Can’t wait to find out the secret

@anon4518890 - I have actually written a bit more of an action scene  Writing fights and action scenes are really not my forte, but it’s good to push myself and force myself to practice!

@Its_Lit_Fam - Hi, thank you for the encouraging words! You don’t need to worry about flirting with any of the love interests in order to trigger the romance. There will be a set choice (most likely in Chapter 15 of Book 1) where you decide who to romance. It will be an obvious choice and you can pick whoever you want even if you haven’t flirted with them. One of the choices will be the love triangle, so you can just choose it then.

I would, however, recommend flirting with your chosen love interest from the beginning- I think it leads into the romance more smoothly that way. Also, some of the romance bits and pieces I’m writing require a certain amount of ‘flirt points’ or certain romance moments (eg the patrol scene) to trigger the scenes. The love triangle doesn’t really come into play until after the choice though (except for the smallest hint of it in one branch of Chapter 9).

Sorry, that was a really long complicated answer  Hope it made sense!

@Kelsie_Grobben - Thank you  I’ve been taking breaks on a weekend, which has really helped, and I think helps to avoid burn-out a lot more. Excited to get some real progress made!

@Billy_Bob - Your MC may hold views that humans aren’t all that great, especially after hanging with supernaturals for a while. But, then your MC might not care either way

@AChubbyBlackCat - Ah, it’s so exciting to read your thoughts on the characters so far! As for N, you’re completely right! N is the stereotypical ‘good’ kind of vampire, the one who has the moral compass and is antsy about what they are. I was hoping to write them that way, but it doesn’t mean there isn’t more to them…

It’s really interesting to see the discussion about the characters in their different genders. (And, also the break down of the characters- which is pretty fascinating to see what people think about them this early in the story!). Obviously there are gender stereotypes, which can play a big part in how people see characters, but it’s also kind of nice not having gender-locked RO’s just because it brings out traits people wouldn’t normally write for certain genders.

But, it’s really great to know people are enjoying the cast of Wayhaven! Especially because one of the main focuses in this series is characters

@AwkwardNature

No, actually, I didn’t know that. How interesting.

…but, I hope that that secret doesn’t become a cliche in itself.

@resuri08

I agree.

@Seraphinite

I am glad you enjoy my thoughts. And I’m more intrigued that you wrote N with the intention of making them a stereotype and I want to learn why now… ;3

I doubt it, but who knows.

Oh wow, can someone tell me how to achieve the fluffy scarf?

You need Ava instead of Adam.

Thank you, but I mistakenly thought that Mason was Adam so I got confused haha.

Update

It’s been a good week for writing!

I finished the second branch of Chapter 9 and finished Chapter 10! (Still needs tweaking, but the most of it is completed).

So, I can say, I’m pretty much officially at the halfway point! Woo hoo!

Chapter Ten was an odd chapter to write. Mostly linear and probably not too long to play through, but there were a lot of choice options and variations to take into account for that scene, and the coding was some of the most complicated I’ve done. Also, it ended on the first big-ish choice that may have consequences further down the series.

So, here’s some halfway point facts:

Current total word count: 212,865.

Average playthrough word count: 41,000.

Wow, that’s a lot of stuff you don’t get to see in one playthrough… That’s a bit disheartening, lol.

But, hopefully, it should make for interesting re-plays!

Some non-spoilery snippets-

One of the choices in a conversation with Tina:

Choice: “They’d better be mentioning my charming smile too.”

“They better be mentioning my charming smile when they gossip about me,” I say, letting the aforementioned charming grin on my lips.

She rolls her eyes. “I’m sure you set hearts beating at the mere mention of your name.”

It’s hard not to chuckle. “It’s a common occurence or so I’m told.”

One of the choices in a conversation with Bobby:

Choice: “Oh joy… it’s you.”

“Oh joy…” I say, letting out a sigh with my words. “It’s you.”

Bobby’s smile turns to a smirk. “Oh, come on now, I doubt you get many visitors boxed up in this stuffy office of yours. I’m sure I’ll add some much-needed excitement to your day.”

(Variant 1- if MC still has issues with Bobby) I roll my eyes, a half sneer curling my lip. “What are you doing here?”

(Variant 2- if MC has no issue with Bobby) I arch a brow. “What are you doing here?”

So yeah, pretty exciting to get so much done this week. Really pleased  Going to take a weekend away from it now though to refresh myself as usual.

Talk to you guys on Monday! Hope you all have a brilliant weekend

What?! You’ve finished two chapters already. It’s probably a lot of work writing and coding the chapters with so many choices. Your work ethic is just admirable. Thank you for continuing writing Wayhaven Chronicles. Please, rest when you can and stay healthy :heavy_heart_exclamation:

@Seraphinite Holy crap over 200,000 words and only half done?? And yeah, that’s so little for a first playthrough, but the replay value has to be through the roof! Thank you so much for all your work and dedication, dang! How many words do you average a day when writing?

It’s like every scene involving Tina confirms more and more that she’s needs an award for best friend ever. I can’t wait for more interactions with her and Verda. :grinning:

It’s like every scene involving Bobby confirms more and more that they need to be thrown in a well. I can’t wait for them to meet Manson. :grinning:

Who even let them inside!? Dang it, it was Doug wasn’t it!?

…Or maybe Bobby entered the place illegally. Then Lupin has a good reason to have him force-able removed from the station for unauthorized trespassing.

Gotta hand it to you @Seraphinite; just the mere look of the way Bobby interacts with Detective MC and refers to them gets me so annoyed (in a good way).

Oh! More interactions with Tina and Bobby! I can’t wait to see all the variations!

Bobby stopping by the station is gonna be good. I just know it. I really, really hope Bravo is around to meet him/her. I would love to see how Bobby might try to win them over and the team’s reaction to him/her, especially as my main MC still feels hurt about Bobby though it’s not in a bitter/hateful way. Oh, the delicious drama! :star_struck:

Those snippets makes very excited. XD

I still haven’t decided yet on my MC’s feeling in regards to Bobby but I am leaning towards the same as your MC @spunkycatninja .

Yeah, I play my main MC as having been hurt emotionally by him, and it still stings, but she wouldn’t be nasty. She can get irritated with him, but she wouldn’t be sneering at him every time they run into each other. So I’m going to hope that there’s a a no-sneer-but-definitely-has-baggage option or variation included. :grinning:

My other MCs, however, might not have a problem with being an ass to Bobby at all. LOL!

I see my MC as a sort of Gibbs from NCIS. She’s gruff and has a sort of dry humor as well as a fierce protective instinct over those in her division, like the mayor’s kid.

Just finished the demo and was left hungering for more! The characters are all very interesting and the variations between MCs are so enticing that I couldn’t decide which one I wanted mine to be. Very good job!

So far my favorite Agent is Ava, but like my MC, I get irritated at her bluntness sometimes (not a bad thing. It’s actually a sign of very good characterization) since I played my MC as a trying-to-be-tough-guy-but-heart-of-gold-is-more-obvious kind of guy.

I assume the genders are still locked? Or are they randomly selected? Never really thought about it as an option, since I’m not bi myself.

It’s still a case of all-female, all-male or co-ed depending on your MC’s gender and what orientation you choose.
