In my defence, I didn’t want to kill my boyfriend and I don’t trust her. Surely, we could make it look like old age.
Why is it that for Maevra and Daemir, my choices are alliance or romantic but not friendship as well? because yes they are both duty driven people so I could see trying to be friends being hard or even impossible.
However if that was the reason then I wouldn’t see trying romance either of them working especially not with Maevra who takes her job very seriously even more so because there are only a few female knights.
Romance is based on feelings and those can be outside of character’s control. Friendship doesn’t have this limitation.
(or, more realistically, the author has to draw the line somewhere, or the amount of content they need to produce grows too large to handle)
I want the mc to have an opportunity to have a justified crashout on their family (yes even grandma). Like have them stand in front of me while I expose their bullshit in front of each other, then ask “with all the actions you have been taking, is there any reason I shouldn’t kick you lot out of my kingdom at this moment?”
Additional headcanon: Charles favoured Richard because he’s who Richard got his personality from. He is a selfish coward and chronic people pleaser under all that “intimidation”.
“For starters, with two of our kingdoms being your allies, have fun fighting the war all on your own after your burn this bridge just so you can have an edgy scene of puffing yourself up..?”
How is it edgy based on everything the Sylvane family has done atp? Threatening them to leave Rhivenia is just a drop in the dysfunctional ocean right now.
“My Liege why did we burn all of our bridges to fight Erwan alone?”
“Aura and hype moments through solo war”
“Type shit”
It’s edgy when it’s an 18 year old trying to act like they have any room to call other people out simply because they’ve had a job for less than a week, and when there’s no real benefit to making such a scene. Especially if you make a show out of it. All you’d be doing is to antagonize your allies and make your MC look like the power already got to their head, and that they’re just as dysfunctional as the people they’re lambasting for it.
…I named my horse Charles
oops
I think what the guy meant was that they wanted that the MC was allowed to make the family realize that they are actively hurting the MC’s own position, themselves and the kingdom with their antagonistic views and actions towards each other.
Which is completely fucking fair. Even grandma from hell would understand that she has not helped, and actively hurt the family by creating sides.
And what i meant was that there’s many more non-abrasive ways to go about it, that don’t require turning such event into a public humiliation show combined with threats.
Even grandma from hell realizes such simple thing, and seeks to advise MC privately rather than do a show and dance in front of everyone about their relative inexperience in those matters.
Honestly a lot of it is applying real world ethics to a fantasy world. My MC is kind yes but I fully expect the choices to lead to difficulties later on. Atheris is my fav probably because she wont get hit with the "it’s love!” stupid stick. She just needs someone with common sense beside her or rather just someone to say “you dont have to do that” instead of the viper nest circling her but then again she hasnt been wrong thus far. Extreme yes, but voices of dissent are threats, just not ones that need violence, at least not right now. Freya…I like her but that whole arguing with Nicholas is not a good political move at all and im just waiting for her to grow up. Richard…he’s going through some MC tyoe trauma poor guy.
Im not a dog person but a guard dog is a good gift and makes sense (unlike a jaguar or tiger which would be my preferred pet
) I imagine the dog to look like the dragon age Mabari and named mine Ser Barksley. I hope Atheris gets a pet snake. What would be your preferred pet for MC instead of a dog?
Funnily enough being argumentative with Nicholas is what draws his interest, and if MC doesn’t step in during their “fight”, he is more interested in Freya instead. So you could say that it’s actually good political move, as opposed to presenting yourself as someone utterly boring and not worth the attention.
I don’t remember me or the OP talking about public humiliation or threats. Maybe I missed it?
But if you mean “public” as in “the whole family sees and hears it,” yeah it may not be the most subtle way of doing things, but here’s the thing - Rhivenia is at war.
Subtlties take time, time we don’t have. “Public humiliation” may be needed. Threats? No. But everyone needs to get their heads on.
Inexperience is one thing. But another thing is actively fighting with your colleagues (or in this case, family) and plotting against one another (Grandma with her fucking scheming, Isabelle and Richard being paranoid fucks, Atheris talking shit about us to Alvena and wanting Richard dead, etc.)
I’m serious, take grandma and send her to a nursing home. She has not helped in any way that we have seen, has offered terrible and I mean terrible advice, stoked the flames in Atheris more.
Her alliance might be great, but we are yet to see it in effect. Until then, I will keep pushing for there to always be an option to completely ignore Grandma Dipshit.
Here’s the original that my reply was aimed at:
Exile is explicitly a capital punishment which was historically on par with actual death sentence around that time period, in terms of severity. If you don’t see a demand “Appease my right here and now or i’ll banish you” as a clear threat that it is, i don’t know what to say. Might need to brush up on social skills before taking a job as a country ruler..? Similar with humiliation of doing it front of others and especially when the person making such demands is wet behind ears teenager who is trying to throw their weight around with people in some cases 2-3 times their age and who have some actual experience as rulers.
This is really not a credible excuse in any way. Rhivenia is at war but it’s not in a situation where the MC can’t spend an hour or two on private talks if simply to avoid public humiliation of their allies (and thus gain some goodwill with them as a bonus). In fact, if one thinks that this is a credible excuse, this only goes further to show their own inexperience in these matters. I mean what, you don’t think your MC can make people “get their head on” with a talk that’s done in private?
I am always of the thought that pets should be optional myself.
But well, I really dislike dogs, so I would prefer anything else- a cat, ideally, but it’s not a guardian animal. Not that I think the mc needs a guard animal unless you severely neglect your physical skills…
I take it you’re not in the U.S. ? I didn’t really understand the fear of dogs until I went to another country. It’s different when there are packs of strays roaming about
I am more than willing to have those private talks witheach family member, but let’s get one thing straight - if we’re doing it one by one, we’re gonna stay in that castle for a month lol.
If the talks did work out, great! But I feel like there are too many burned bridges between each family member to do it one by one - pairs would work.
Richard and Atheris would be a great starter. They have both caused me problems beyond belief (I refuse to hash over this again - Atheris is as much of a problem as Richard, that’s a fucking fact and I am tired of discussing it for the seventeenth time.) and if things changed between them, life is near excellent.
Grandma is next. She’s too goddamn antagonistic towards Isabelle’s side when there’s no benefit from it, causing an even further rift between the two sides and only causing problems for us.
Alvena and Isabelle? On one hand, patching them up would be a godsend. On the other - I will be skinned alive by Atheris and Alvena for not mindlessly hating Richard and Isabelle. And maybe Grandma Satan as well.
Honestly, I think the best short-term solution would be to send Isabelle’s family away so my side stopped being antagonistic cunts. Long-term solution is still a-ways away, but this is what i propose as a short-term solution.
I swear this is not bait and I am actually curious, why?
Atheris is not a saint, I’m fully aware of that but her flaws are noticeable from a mile away, her impulsiveness and ambition (which granted does die out a bit) are as subtle as a beached Shark in the Sahara.
So far, what was Atheris biggest incident? Beef a bit with Nicholas? Beat up those peasants? The Poison?
First is a bit of diplomatic incident but he doesn’t care much (and he’s kinda of a jerk lmao)
She and her family were being demonized in the play (and she does have her insecurities) so I can’t blame her for the crashout outside of the fact she could had been more subtle about it.
The Poison was morally wrong but I do see her logic (and not to mention that she doesn’t do it if you say no)
Meanwhile Richard incidents include:
- Showing disrespect by being drunk during the coronation and then showing defiance.
- Smilling if we get attacked and basically saying he enjoyed it (and this is on non-poison/friendship route)
- Literally sending a letter threathening Queen Lena without our consent or knowledge about it, y’know**! THE ONE VASSAL WHO’S UNDECIDED IN WHICH SIDE SHE SHOULD JOIN AND VERY MUCH PISSED ABOUT WHAT OUR FATHER DID TO HER FAMILY.**
The 3th incident is lowkey inexcusable imo
And this is not to mention that Richard’s family is very much pissed off and unruly about the fact we took the throne and not him, the only real way to mitigate his threat is by poisoning the supplies and his “boohoo dad didn’t really care and my life is a lie” (which would be reasonable were not for the things he did)
My logic is that while Atheris is problematic, her incidents are nowhere near the magnitude similiar to Richard’s incidents, at least so far and she probably (if not certainly) will do something terrible… i’d be more betrayed if she didn’t honestly.
