Hey guys, it’s been a while! A lot of good, bad, and the usual happened to me the past month lol. I’ve been prioritizing my life and have been touching grass but I’m finally checking back in with a progress update!
- I reread EVERYTHING to edit things. The entire story, every choice and variation… this is why they say the more words the longer writing takes
I like to think that process cleaned up a lot of junk but it did take up my writing time lol. So I didn’t write as much as I’d like but this was a good use of my time. (At ~187k words, removed some, added some, typical editing process)
-
I also did a massive clean up of my notes and outline—you wouldn’t believe how nonsensical they were (are). I’ve got like 5 docs with double digit pages, it’s a mess (that I made slightly more manageable).
-
I rewrote a good portion of the beginning and revised a few other sections and I think I’m happy with what I’ve done.
-
I’ve decided to do more choices and less stat variable passages so I converted a few areas… a little sad but choices are more engaging anyway.
-
And something more interesting is that I made a sort of companion game to TS with a side story you can read on it!
Notes about the concept are on kofi, but TLDR: “The itch/io game I made isn’t an accurate rep of this concept, but how tf could I fake 1k+ submissions, comments, a fully functioning website, etc. just to demonstrate a silly idea lol
[…] I needed an excuse to post kofi pieces there and we all want to read about the ROs not random side characters ok
Like, the users post submissions abt their own historical figures?? It’d be hella weird to have glorified fanfic about y/n & some dead person fr”
I was intending it to be a simple project for kofi but couldn’t help becoming enraptured with learning how to use twine and I quite like faking websites & apps (my major should’ve been UI/UX damn it). Coding and debugging was horrible by the way, but satisfying.
Related note:
Read the short story “Sleep” by Haruki Murakami, it’s so good at evoking a floaty atmosphere. Like you’re living behind a window… (sensitive subjects, tho) It influenced me while writing “If We Were Human.”, I’m pretty sure.
Anyway, when I got that framework set up, I comfortably went back to focusing on TS. This was a good excuse to step away from writing that for a bit actually which allowed me to reread everything with fresher eyes.
@yourgalaxies aww, Caine’s so beloved, I’m so happy I could make a character ppl like so much :)!
@KingofOMega rats. So you’re saying I should’ve posted this April fools joke 20 days early to properly mess with you all (Marchil Fools…)
@KaTe_Voy ooo I’m not familiar with Dragon Dogma but I think it’s very neat this amateur thing of mine reminded you of a game
