The Seven Heirs of Ophaesia: Part One (WIP)

you want no caring family and no caring pet what do you want our character to kill themselves because of deep depression jesus christ and you want him to change the entire story because you dont want a caring mother… um i vote no since i dont think we should abolish the entire game because you dislike a choice made by the author

Mara always complains about anything ‘happy’ in games. As long as it’s not mandatory, though, it should be fine.

What’s wrong with having a strong, independent MC? This game just gives off a sort of GoT vibe, so I’ll be damned if my MC trusts anyone farther than they can throw them–which isn’t very far, considering that they’re still a child.

I’d say that with what’s in the current demo, with our mother seemingly entering and exiting the mc’s life at random, that it is up in the air and very much open to interpretation whether she genuinely cares about her son/daughter in her own way or if they are just a part of one of her long-running schemes. What is certain to me however is that she’ll never quite win the mother of the year award.

i dont think its her fault we know the king hates her so he doesn’t want her in the palace and im pretty sure shes the first born in her family so shes probably dealing with alot you cant blame her for that i mean my father’s been in the military since i was young so he wasnt there for my first football game and many other things because he wasnt there does that mean he was a bad dad no it doesn’t and personally i think the mother in this story is great

Heh. While I’m not as dead set against stepping into the boots of a character surrounded by a caring family as Mara is, I think this story is better with the main character starting out with few or no one truly caring for him/her from the start. That makes it all the more exciting (and somewhat bitter, since it’s a rathe rlonely existence then)… And potentially all the much sweeter once we find someone that comes to truly care for us and/or we can place our trust in  . My point is, better that the MC will have to find those that cares (or will come to care for) for him/her, rather than being blessed with their presence right from the start…

I’m so glad you’re still doing this Fawkes. It is an incredibly undertaking. I love the idea of owning a pet and I can’t wait to meet our grandfather.

I also found an alternative theme for my character for a more tragic playthrough: Kingslayer

I think it is important to remember that this story is essentially a period piece. While it might not be set during a true historical time it is clearly an interpretation of the late midevil or perhaps early industrial period in Europe.

During these times it was normal for well to do parents to have minimal contact with young children. They would be trained by nannies until they were old enough to be well behaved around adults.

While every child (and every mc) is free to react to this parenting method in their own way, it is a bit unfair to harshly criticize parenting techniques simply because they don’t match our modern expectations.

I have played a few times and used different personalities each time. I still haven’t made up my mind what type will be my favorite, but I think @Fawkes has done an exemplary job creating a world were we each can be whomever we want and I am excited to read more.

Yeah, I think most of us realize this - though even this knowledge only adds to Ysonia’s ambiguity here; is she in fact just acting according to the standards of her time, or is she only paying the minimum required attention to her son/daughter? Is she trying to be distant, or is she in fact going beyond the minimum of what is expected of her as a mother by (apparently) doting on him/her? It’s all rather unclear as of yet, which is what makes it an interesting situation we all question and debate

The MC’s father seems to clearly be another matter though - he’s neglecting him/her even by such medieval/early renaissance standards, considering he doesn’t even occasionally summon him/her for a meeting face to face now and then as with the MC’s brother and sister…

I never imply that people who wants the inaccurate and unrealistic for a renaissance modern family caring shouldn’t have it. I JUST DON’T WANT BE FORCED TO IT. I have a typical renaissance family and character in mind and an annoying modern familiar would break my immersion and really worse half of my characters motivations.

I have a Borgia family role-playing idea going on very interesting…
Also a Pazzi one (I hope It writes Pazzi in English too)
And finally a Sforza one. Sforza would be really interesting.Making daddy proud of me and BANG BETRAYAL TIME

I’m surprised you left out a Hapsburg family idea and a Capet family as well. My MC’s closest historical anology is Plantagenet.

Na hapsburg Is rather blunt I am more Italian Spanish dramatic exuberance

Reading your posts, I suddenly feel like there’s a book named ‘Families full of scheming and backstabbing throughout the ages’ or something that I haven’t had the fortune of having read :stuck_out_tongue:

There are several they are called History books  Any ruling family until first world war follow exactly that parameters.

I’m sure that there’ll be one, probably not more, maternal relative who might actually care for the MC, while the rest of his/her family just wants to use the MC to get the throne. Dunno, gut feeling.

Could very well be. Wasn’t it mentioned that a lot of the MC’s birthday presents were from them? If so, cynically speaking, one can assume they already want to get started with getting into his/her good graces for future eventualities…

If a family member looks genuinely caring for you into the renaissance medieval only options are
1 Want political marriage or political sexual relationships.
2 Want killing you or find something to blackmail you.
3 Want to use you to as a bargaining chip
4 Incest.

That’s not true. It was a different time back then with different customs but they were still human beings and looked out for their family. Not everyone was a cold robot with no emotions who only cared about themselves. Even in Game of Thrones, Cersei and Tywin were furious that the Starks kidnapped Tyrion, even though they hate him, because they saw it as an insult to their family. Families back then definitely had to stick together.

And you are admitting my point THEY HATED HIM IT WAS NOT LOVE IT WAS INTEREST. Exactly my point ancient families are like the Mafia. You can’t let them you can’t betrayal them and live. But Internal members share not selfless affection . Lanister family certainly proof my point.
Edit @Ninja you probably are new so you don’t read normally my posts so I would try to explain my role-playing background.I would try be clear.
My character would be a loyal Maelan but She would not share a selfless love or caring for mom. She sees her mother as another person to play with in a mortal game. And she knows any of their family members do the same. Loyalty to the family is clear but no loyalty to any individual members. Exactly as Renaissance families

They still looked out and cared for him because he was their FAMILY. There was no interest because they had NOTHING to gain from rescuing him from the Starks. So having a a few family members that look out for you is not unrealistic for the time period. That’s my point.
Edit: Okay, that’s understandable and it seems to be a miscommunication. I thought you were saying that having a family member protecting their own is unrealistic because of the time period. I plan to have the exact character.
