I’m not looking to start if she did it or not argument, until some actual evidence for her doing it I’m just going to believe she didn’t do anything or an outside force had something to do with it and the Maeliahs pressured her into going after Eraven. Personally hoping we can see ourselves as a Maeliah and have it be our last name since Eraven and the siblings are assholes.

My personal feeling is that Ysonia may have had nothing to do with Alapharen’s death, but her family (House Maeliah) wouldn’t complain if Alapharen dropped dead. I’m (and my MC will likely be) more wary of the Maeliahs than the Dahlases; they are an ambitious, clever, unknown quantity that has no problem sacrificing the reputation of one member to gain an advantage.

I want to get to know him a bit more before I can decide. I would like to meet my Dahlas siblings and see what they’re like. Then I would want to meet my Maeliah relatives as well.

It really depends on the generation, personal values, and whether they knew Lurian.

The older generation isn’t exactly fond of him, seeing as they’ve known him since he was young and still have the memory of Lurian to compare him to. Eraven made some controversial decisions early in reign (which also put quite the strain on his relationship with the Patriarch and the Priesthoods) that the older generation is somewhat divided on. Some were in favor, some were very much not. The first years of his reign were full of ups and downs.

The younger generation wasn’t around for the tumultuous start of Eraven’s reign and don’t know have another king in living memory to compare him to. They were born after Eraven’s reign stabilized and Eraven himself began to mellow out.

Most people — nobles who haven’t met him/interacted with him much and commoners — don’t have strong feelings about him, though there is a sort of collective sympathy for him for being trapped in a marriage with the Snake Queen. Paladins aren’t very fond of them, though for the younger ones, it’s because of the existing tension between the monarchy and the Order. However, Eraven’s relationship with the Mytean Priesthood is even more strained, and he’s not on the best of terms with the Priestesshood of Naphenia either. That said, he does maintain a working relationship with all three organizations.

Ophaesia has never been at war during Eraven’s reign, which definitely makes people more inclined to forgive his flaws, such as his unpleasant personality. The kingdom in recent years has thrived under his rule.

He’s not a bad king. He’s undeniably flawed, however, and the sentiment that Lurian would have been a far better king is strong with the older generation, the Order, and the Priesthoods.

Basically, Eraven a good enough king that the lands have had peaceful times despite his general personality and some early missteps he made (that may follow him even now) and some of his people tend to give him leniency in some regards due to it. However, his flaws are pretty well known and those who knew his older brother still stand by the idea that Eraven is nowhere close to being the better king when compared to Lurian.
