An update on THE RACE:

I got past the writers block and the last week has produced some great work, if I do say so myself.

After some quick calculations, the game is 54% complete now. There’s still a way to go, but that’s 54% on the computer. It’s 99% complete in my head and in my many note pages!!

I have the time to work on it now. My aim, realistic or not, is to have it ready for testing in the next 3-4 weeks. A tall order with a lot of typing to do, but that’s what I’ll try!

New update: Gender option added and character creation expanded. Intro changed and improved. Expanded some social sections. Main game 58% complete.

New update: 70% complete now! Thanks to two days heavy programming, this is really starting to take off

Once I reach 90% complete, I will ask for beta testers.

Well, you know who to ask now. How have you been doing mate?

Hey Warbound. How’s SimRep going?
I keep meaning to log in to say hi.

I’m good- I’ve been concentrating on this book again. The end is in sight now, although theres still a lot of typing to do.

My aim is to get it mostly done, then beta testing, then finishing touches.

Hey, you should write one of these games. Your writing is good as I saw in the SimRep Newspaper.

If I had time, then I would consider, but I haven’t logged on to SR for a while too. Nonetheless, best of luck to you and your project.

Cheers. If you do decide to write, let me know.

Progress update: The game is developing quickly now. The motivation is here and the words are flowing. The main game is close to completion and the two side stories are developing nicely. Before fully complete, I will add a third side story for female characters, which will be written after I open the game to beta-testers.

While writing I have done a lot of reading of other cog games and consequently have come to the conclusion that I need to work a lot harder on the character development in this game. Again, this will be addressed during beta-testing. If anyone wants to suggest different personalities for the contestants… That would be great!

Expected Beta release date: 30th September

While writing choice script games, no matter how much planning you have done, extra ideas always pop into your head as you are writing. These changes have transformed my game from a straight forward race, the main idea, into three distinct story-lines.

While I am happy with the progress, and aware that many people are waiting to see what I’ve been up to, I feel there are still many areas I can improve on.

I’m still on schedule for the expected beta date of September 30th, yet I’ll likely be changing parts through the whole beta phase depending on feedback and what people want to see.

Just tried the demo and I find it promising.

Also, a quibble: There are some lines where you have two spaces between words. Don’t know if you have already fixed it, but just thought I’ll mention it if you haven’t realised.

Thanks for playing ScarletGeisha. The game has changed a lot since the demo. Where did you notice double-spaces between words? I wasn’t aware of that.

80% complete now. I’ve set myself a tall order to have it finished by the 30th, but even if it’s not complete, I’ll have it so it’s playable.
It’s very different to the demo though and much more advanced.

So far you can play (oddly enough) about 80% of the way through. After that it’s patchy.
Whatever happens, beta testing will start on the 30th.

If you want to be a beta-tester, email me at andywhy@hotmail.co.uk

First 20 people only, as I want as many people as possible to experience the full game - not the patchy one!

As you guys play/test over the weekend I’ll work on the loose ends.

@andymwhy

I’ve tried copying the sentences on Word and the double spaces don’t show up. Also, it only appears after full stops, though not after every full stop. An example is on the page where the player inputs their name.

Okay, thanks ScarletGeisha. My guess is that it happens after some if/then choices…
Also it could be a browser issue… It’s not showing up on my iPhone or my PC (Chrome). I’ll take a look but it could be a tough one to solve…

Well, it is a trivial problem and I doubt it would ruin it for anyone but the most hardcore grammar police.

But if you’re interested, I’m using IE9.

Okay, cheers Scarlet. Once I release the beta version, if it’s still a problem I’ll look into it more. At the moment, I can’t see anything wrong…

I still need more beta testers for Friday! If interested, email me at andywhy@hotmail.co.uk

Main race is 92% complete! Full game is about 84% complete.

Beta testing starts in 48 hours.

(More beta-testers required!! Please email me at andywhy@hotmail.co.uk)

In the meantime, here’s a taster of the new character creation screen:

Last shameless call for beta-testers! If interested, send me an email as above. Testing starts tomorrow.

Sent an E-mail, don’t know if you got it. I haven’t gotten a response back. I’d love to beta test.
Edit: I see the problem. I didn’t send it .co.uk
I’ll re-mail you!

Thanks Mr Youngzman. Added!
