I’m debating whether it not to make the people in my world racist… Will they spit at you if you don’t belong? Or will they tolerate you? Of course you being the inquisitor, this will get a little dicey as people are not so willing to insult you. But you probably will witness this occurring. Any thoughts on how encounters like this could help or not help the game?

I’d be fine with either way as long as it makes sense, but I generally prefer less racism to more if there’s no particular reason for it being tied to the story.

I could see it between waring races.

I agree with Dark_Stalker. Not every race is going to have issues with all the others, but some would probably be at each other’s throats.

@TheWoodSprite
No, I was thinking of something foreign to the site.

Also, I agree with @Elfwine’s statement.

Make it varying. Maybe some places will be more racist towards some races, making the experience different for MCs if they’re the “wrong” race. You’ll need to balance that though, for example have one visitable location with racism towards them for each of the available species.

as for when I plan to have the game finished… in between college work and my personal life, I’m hoping to have this whole game done by mid December. Like I said, I already have most of it written and planned out, the coding will just be a nightmare.

Mid December? Awesome, I was expecting something like fall 2015.

But would that be “our race has fought the other race”, or “we of this area have fought that area”?

I’m not trying to argue, I’m just wondering if this setting really divides things racially so that Voken and Hyrgen (say) form homogenous societies to the point that a quarrel over (whatever people fight over) would represent a struggle of one race against the other on the whole.

Why not both?

Well, I suppose there’s enough different races you could have some be divided by the former and some by the latter.

Precisely. Given how we're going to have a different story depending on the race we choose, we'd get to experience all of it.

@Elfwine - true. For example, the Hir’sokk are constantly at odds with each other, the land dwellers and the sea dwellers. The Borgen are always infighting amongst themselves as well, but hold a deep-rooted hatred for mankind. Actually, hatred isn’t quite the right word. Disdain. That’s better.
The Voken, despite being relatively peaceful, just creep people out, so they tend to be alienated.
The Hygen are loved for their craftsmanship, but unless you have goods to offer, Humams will have little to no interest in dealing with you.

Do keep in mind though that these are just the playable races. There are many other races in this world, and some are the mortal/sworn enemies of a certain race.

@WulfyK - I like that idea.

Does anyone think that I should do something with the Human race? I always feel that in most fantasy settings, humans are the bland and boring race. They usually have high populations relative to other races, and might actually be the dominant race. Other than that though, I can’t really think of at reason why people would want to play as one. As I see it, there are a few things I could do to remedy this.

One- Remove the option to play as a human. This way I could allow the humans to be another part of the environment, a factor that can cause conflict with the MC.

Two-Remove humanity entirely. Really, who actually needs there to be a human race? I think I would be among the first to consider doing away with humans in fantasy altogether. I WOULD replace them with a new, interesting playable race. This option would allow me to make the world as unique as possible, and focus more closely on the conflicts and stories occurring within each race.

All these options have their benefits. Any thoughts as to what you would like to see?

I’m sure both options could work. Having the humans as a non-playable, possibly even inferior race is refreshing and possibly hilarious reversal of generic fantasy. A world without humans at all would be more alien to the players, if you want to underline this it is better…

I don’t know enough about your world to support one of these options, you should decide yourself. When imagining your world, do the humans look out of place or are they fitting rather well into it? Do you believe that the other race can only exist if there are no humans?

I vote give them a special benefit either as a whole or specific to us, maybe magic
Let us play as a mutant race of them with special stuff but look like them or supernatural(depending on how you make your story) vampires, werewolves, ghouls,wraith, something magic

@WulfyK - in my world (thus far) the humans occupy the same role they usually do, that if the annoying, invasive species that oppresses the other races. But I’m leaning towards replacing them with another race. I think that I would keep them as a race, but have them be a minority that is seen as unfit or unworthy of attention by the other races.

Actually, that seems pretty valid as well.
