Hi! I’m usually a lurker & it’s my first time posting anything on CoG (ever), I just wanted to tell you it’s been amazing so far! Currently my favorite character stands between Ædmund or Charles. Sorry if my message sounds awkward (it’s almost 6AM rn), but I’m looking forward to the next chapter! Have a nice day!!
I decided finally get around to publishing the Tumblr I made years ago… If people want to check it out, I made ArtBreeder images of all the One Chosen ROs… (although be warned, a couple of them are a bit glitchy… )
Hey all again! I’ve been thinking it’s probably time to get the cover art for The One Chosen done, but I’m not 100% sure of what I want. The problem is that my main idea would show the face of an MC, and would thus implicitly exclude anyone whose MC didn’t look like that. I don’t really want to obscure the face, because the idea is to emphasise how ordinary they are, and obscuring the face would give them too much of an air of mystery. (Also, their hands would still be visible, so they’d still have a defined skin colour.)
The main alternative idea I have would have no characters whatsoever, and just focus on a collection of magical objects, although this feels rather too generic compared to my first idea.
What do people think about this? Please let me know if you have any ideas or comments. Thanks!
How about ordinary, mundane items on one side of the face off and magical items on the other side?
Otherwise how about a shot of London with ordinary London on the foreground and the academy in the sky?
I’d definitely not like a canon appearance for the mc particularly if that is the opposite of what I chose e.g short and female.
Skin colour is a bit less of a problem although my own mc is mixed race white/English and Indian/Pakistani in my mind so his skin would be on the lighter side of brown/dusky.
Then maybe you could go with a background character style. I can only take example from anime but depending of the drawing style, you have characters with no eyes, no face, very simplistic doodle like face, or the character whole body being paint in a gray/black colourless monochrome. If you keep the gender ambiguous enough it could work ?
I don’t know how doable it can be depending of your idea.
So I asked some friends for help and so here more ideas :
Having the main character turn their back from us with shoulder lenght-hair.
Having something obstruct our field of vision like a ray of light or others characters, etc…
Changing the perspective of the cover so it’s from the point of view of the main characters.
Just having the shadow of the main character ; My friend asked that if you choose this one you should pay him 200 bitcoins
Btw, I don’t mind having a generic looking main character on the cover art.
I like this one. Rather than the character(s) who is(are) the namesake of the whole story, you could have just a bunch of ordinary citizens wandering a business street with restaurants, clothing shops, and of course several pubs. Maybe an angry Pomeranian off to the side seemingly growling at no one in particular, but anyone in this crowd of ordinary young people could be the MC.
I suppose you could make the academy and maybe some other semi-hidden magical easter eggs a bit hazy to depict the whole masquerade and the ordinary Londoners in the foreground being totally oblivious to the magical world around them. Like the mc is at the beginning of the story.
What about a cover where the MC is facing away from the viewer, in a hoodie and a backpack, something to indicate that they are an unprepared, ordinary child instead of the intimidating armor/glowing robes the hero usually wears.
You could have them facing something ten times their size to give a sense of scale as to how small they really are. Say the demon lord on a throne of skulls for example.
The cover art from “The Hero of Kendrick Stone.” Kinda gives you an idea of what I mean. But no matter what you pick, I’m sure it’s going to turn out as lovely as your current demo!
You could do something like you did with totem force where all the background characters take center stage and have the second chosen one in the palm of a demon’s hand while a lone Mc slightly obscured by an old faded and ripped hoodie stands in the background looking off in the distance minding their own business or on the run from their foster father showing not only are they normal but mostly helpless and alone as well
