The Myrmidon (WIP) (Minor update 03/10/2017)
I would say that Mr Gray is more of an Ebenezer Scrooge nightshirt kinda guy, but I’m fairly certain he sleeps perfectly still in a pressed suit, unable to move for fear of creases.
I’m also betting on cold toes and sleeping with his eyes open.

Either way, he will be loved.

Now this is interesting. In a lot of stories where memory is lost there is usually the hope they will regain their memories, resume their old life and reunite with their loved ones. Here however it seems more like the MC becomes an entirly different person with who they were before being entirly eradicated! Which could make for some exciting reactions with their former friends. I wonder is theri any chance of recapturing who you used to be in some way or am I right in thinking that he’s essentially dead and reborn as someone else? Either way I love the idea and needless to say I’ll be looking forward to more here!

This looks really cool, and I look forward to what’s in store for the future. Myself, as long as the narrative is done well, both creatively and as a format, then I can stand to read whatever’s going on before being given a chance to make some decisions. Good luck!

Thank you, I haven’t tried to reinvent the wheel, just surgically disassemble it and create a near-perfect simulacrum…

Short Answer: No.

Long Answer: Maybe?

Then I am obliged to produce more, thanks for your questions!

I always appreciate new readers, I’ll endeavour to keep your interest when the next chapter goes up. We’re a very question-friendly thread, so if there’s anything you’d like to see or have explored, do get stuck in and ask.

To condense such primal meaning and emotion into two short words and some exclamation points…

You may be the wisest of us all.

Not a criticism I often have leveraged against me, but a welcome one nevertheless.

There will be angst, casual nudity, midnight escapades and a 50 foot tall sentient boring machine. I’m looking forward to it too.

Just out of curiosity this is a completely irrelevant question but what is the average height of the people in the game? I’m going to assume there aren’t a bunch of seven footers walking around

I’m fairly new to this thread so I apologize if this has been asked before, but does the question establishing Flash’s sexual orientation determine our own or will we get the chance to change in the future? We aren’t perfect clones after all and sexuality is a tricky thing for a machine to duplicate. If I’m going to pick a new RO may as well make it as painful as possible.

A tangentially interesting question…

The human race are basically at the point of pre-industrial 18th Century Europe, so a cross-section of factors (diet, lifestyle, economic considerations) might place them in a height range of between 4.11 and 5.7. On average a little shorter than us because of a diet lacking in high-protein foods and a lifestyle involving hard labour (that increases the rate of bone compression).

However they are also the recipients of thousands of years of passive genetic engineering. There are three genders (coming soon to an update near you) and a host of induced genetic mutations that have been hard-coded into the Human genome.

Unless our thoughts on height and attractiveness changed drastically between now and the Pre-Fall future, that would imply that we would have made genetic additions for greater average height.

Obviously not everyone will be a perfect genetic paragon, but we do have our third gender that presents clear and irrefutable evidence of genetic tampering. So Engel and his ilk are more likely than most to be tall and willowy in frame, while ‘baseline’ humans with less genetic tampering are likely to be smaller.

Obviously many of the gene-mods Humans carry will be advantageous (heightened senses, disease resistance etc) and therefore they will make for more attractive mates. If we follow this conclusion, we can reasonably infer that the average height must be slightly higher than normal because those genetically modified to have a host of useful breeding traits will coincidentally be taller.

Haha, oww… I hurt my think-box with that one…

Nice to meet a new fan with another interesting question.

In short, the sexual orientation decision you make at the beginning does not define your sexuality for the rest of the game. There will be a noticeable disconnect between Flash and your MC, which you can choose to either close up or wider depending on your play style.

As a machine, you lack the gooey bits and societal pressures that help ‘lock in’ your sexual identity. Being a blank slate means that you have the rare opportunity to choose your personal convictions, rather than realizing them later in life as we humans do.

I hope for it to be an interesting perspective shift that simultaneously opens up new and emotionally involving story lines.

Okay I’m a bit confused about what you mean here. This might be due to English not being my first language (along with having heard the term “squishy bits” used before), but are you saying the MC essentially has a Barbie Doll Anatomy (at least the brain and fighting focused ones)?

On another note, thank you for letting us choose how much the MC can disconnect from Flash. And I loved your teaser about the coin trick, which implies the MC will retain some “muscle memory” from Flash. There’s going to be so much angst in my playthrough. :imp:

I have another question what do the nobles do for fun? Has tennis been reinvented?

Am I the only one that thinks the MC is like really adorable? I’ve been playing them as mostly confused but innocent and they’re just so cute. I’m also really curious about our Lady and highly untrustworthy “mother” Like I’m not sure if she’s just some common noble who legitimatly wants a child and resorted to some weird methods to get one or if theres something diabolica and sinister behind her. IK’m excited to learn more about her the most to be honest.

Inquiry barrage galloping this way. Prepare the parasols.

Setting player omnipotence aside, will there be an in-world explanation/catchy one-liner as to why this particular version of the Myrmidon is input? Lady C: Make me something flashy that can help loosen the lid on my jar of souls. T’would be quite the coup to learn the reasoning behind Arinthas’ choice. Or was it simply the quality easiest to glean from this particular Flash’s, mm, leavings?

And the tattered yarn from that musing led me here. If it were more of a buyer’s market, which Myrmidon would be the closest to flying off the shelves? Each would obviously be more popular in their niche areas and classes, but could also potentially transcend them: i.e. Loverdon as a Trojan android/interior decorator, Thinkerdon as a tutor/life-planner, Fighterdon as a laborer/heavy. In essence, (must stop milling about), which of the three ideals represented would be most valued to in-game society as a whole?

Also. Gooey bits. Titters.

Aside from attending murder parties? Weeps.

When you say Trojan android i’m not sure what i’m thinking what you’re saying is the same

I may or may not have been purposely ambiguous.
Imagine a Trojan horse with a much nicer wrapping. Seduction wisely used in the art of war.

I’m thinking Loverdon or Fighterdon might have been more valued since more people would need companions or workers and Thinkerdon doesn’t seem the right fit for domestic life.

Well, Thinkerdon could trim even the most mundane aspects of life with problem-solving and efficiency. Someone might like coming home to Victorian Spock every night…

No no, they have all the necessary equipment for all situations. The Lover model has a whole suite of extra functionality into the bargain, although I admit that won’t come up in the story very often.

You’re welcome. A good teaser scene helps me work out the minor details of the overall plot, so if a coin trick gives me a new angle with which to inflict misery on my beloved characters? More the better.

Lavish parties, theme orgies, lectures, operas, plays, a card game not unlike Whist and plotting the downfalls of their closest friends.

The usual, really…

Not even a little bit. I want to write in more hugs just so that the MC gets the love and attention I think he/she deserves.

Always assume something diabolical and sinister is lurking behind Lady Calinas’ pretty eyes.

Roll 'em up kids, roll 'em up…

It would be quite the coup, wouldn’t it?

Well I imagine most Nobles would be more interested in a Concubine-style Myrmidon, simply because of their penchant for decadent conversation pieces. Some of the emerging private business owners that have ‘broken in’ to the upper crust might value a Thinker for its ability to increase their profits, while on the ground someone who can do a bit more of the heavy lifting might be the Myrmidon of choice for the poor.

Of course, introducing Myrmidons as a labour force would destabilize the entire economy, so I’m not entirely sure the poor would want that on balance…

Hmm…

Yes, this hypothetical person might be in this very room…
