The Myrmidon (WIP) (Minor update 03/10/2017)

You’d have to read the manual for that sort of thing, and the Forge has been buried at the bottom of the sea for 4000 years.

So some of the words might be a little smudged…

You would need the equivalent of several Ph.Ds in sciences that haven’t existed for thousands of years to be able to do that sort of thing.

Even Arinthas needed help to design you.

And he’s super smart.

Manual, schmanual. This is the sort of situation for which the concept of winging it was born.

Also:
Is the Forge workable from the inside?

“Hey Arinthas, do you know where the first-aid kit is? No reason…”

If screwing around with the Forge means that I get a bitchin’ leather jacket like that, I will gladly take everything else that comes with it.

edit: Would it have been possible for Arinthas to simply create a new arm for himself and make sure that the Forge gave the arm the full admin privileges? Or… something along those lines. I was going somewhere with this, but I lost it.

…like a ‘smart’ prosthetic? Not quite sentient or alive or anything like that, but with the functions and such that Arinthas would require.

Yeah, but I’m not sure I could stand all the monologuing…

Sounds a bit like the backstory of the war between the humans and machines from The Matrix.

Isn’t he a “villain”-y, boogeyman type kind of lurking in the shadows in two of the three branches anyway? I’m expecting there to be quite a bit of monologuing as it is. And Liquid Revolver Arinthas would have a sick 'stache.

There are a surprising number of parallels, now that I think about it…

Sort of, except in my version of the Matrix the machines know how conservation of energy works.

The Myrmtrix.

Actually speaking of self-knowing machines and AIs, I’ve got another morality question (and of course by question I mean onslaught of inquiries) about the MC:

Does the MC think of themself more as a human? Or as an android? Does this even matter in this kind of society? Does it depend on what path they take? (With Lady Calinas I can see her being much more on the 'no, you’re a human ‘cause you gotta bang the prince/princess’ spectrum while Arinthas would be more on the ‘what even is this question of course you’re an android’ option.)

Also, do people ever treat the MC differently when they find our they’re an android? Is there machinism? (humanism?) Are there anti-android people we’ll run into that will try to hurt our MC?

Good question.

As to the question of the MC’s ‘humanity’, the three camps split much the way you’d expect. As far as Lady Calinas tells you, you’re a human with special gifts. This makes you strange and unique (which at Court is a huge boost to your status) but otherwise treated as human.

Arinthas doesn’t think much of Humanity, and he thinks even less of people who pull their conversational punches. It is a pretty safe bet that he’s going to be pretty up front with you about your origins.

The rebels walk a line between the two I suppose, they don’t think you’re human but they will fight tooth and nail to ensure that you’re treated as human.

As to the notion of fearing machines, there are a great number of ‘wild’ myrmidons that stalk the untamed lands of the Rings, and they tend to be psychotic, unreasonable and capable of amazing things. So its not unreasonable that people might be a little cautious around you upon learning about your true identity.

I should imagine that the Church takes a hard line against Myrmidons (ironically enough…).

Okay because I’m a lover of all thing dramatic I have to ask if this is going to play in in any part? Will we encounter anti-android/anti-myrmidon cults? If we take the Nobel path, is someone going to find out about our “origins” and try to assassinate us?

…aaand now I’m thinking ‘enter the myrmidominatrix.’ I kinda made that joke already, but… Eh.

So will that give any of them pause when it comes time for the romancin’? Will the MC be able to question them on that, like ‘do you see me as a sexbot or something?’ Just 'cause you fight for someone to be treated as human don’t mean you’re exactly willing to do the dirty with 'em, is all I’m saying.

Well Chapter 4 of the Noble path takes place in the Kadana Grand Opera House during a showing of its most famous play The Humbling of Dian. Because rich people are both unimaginative and somewhat shitty, it has become a sort of assassin’s litmus test for people who wish to see their rivals bumped off. The Opera House’s security is legendary, but occasionally an assassin will be able to perform a delicate political assassination that simultaneously makes them legends in their own community.

One such assassin might come for you, but who sent them?

Good question…

“Do you think of me as a sex-bot?”

“That depends, do any parts of your body vibrate on command?

“… I don’t see how that’s relevant…”

I’m extremely curious about whatever the hell Dian did to deserve the kind of humbling she gets.

…All in due time?

Ayyy

I get the impression that most people won’t recognize the MC as an android unless someone who knows points it out to them, and the list of people who know starts out very small. Most will just assume the MC is a very beautiful/tough/smart human who is maybe a touch eccentric.

Oh man… I almost asked that question earlier (does the mc vibrate? that is…). :joy:

I will repeat @RedRoses’ sentiment:

(But in the best of ways.)
