That’s very, very fair. If it’s any reassurance, I think even a very shy tweak might work out and permit people to see most of the reactive text, if they picked all the opportunities to raise a stat. But I trust in what you’ll end up doing!
If it’s any help, I wouldn’t worry too much about it. After all, people are genderqueer even before actually transitioning, and the way I saw it, the MC would just be closeted until that fateful chapter 4 moment. In fact, it would be weirder if someone didn’t consider it at all and switched genders on a whim. The way I saw it, it would just be some third and fourth options when you select your gender that would say something like “Of course you can’t do anything about it, but you’ve felt like X for a long time, although you live as Y”. I don’t know if it makes sense lmao, and I admit I might be assuming a lot 
. I don’t even think there would be too much flavor text needed to add, this early in the story!

I definitely stand by it, too, and I love how where in Hereditary the horror is all about the emotional impact of a mother’s shocking grief, MOTD instead flips it: all the bone deep horror ends up being in the mother’s lack of care about what’s a deeply traumatizing moment for the older sibling. Agh. Chef’s kiss.
I’m super excited (and omg I’ll be a bloodhound trying to see if my theory holds up since apparently that route will reveal more things)! And hey, any progress is still progress. Take your time, don’t put too much pressure on your shoulders, and don’t be afraid to either take breaks or even to write other scenes in the meantime if it gets too much of a headache at some point.
