Hey y’all, just letting everyone know that I have 3k of the 10k words planned for the next update. I am writing as fast as I can, given the circumstances. The beginning of December was tumultuous in my personal life, but things are coming together for now. I still think I can reach the goal by the end of the month. Thanks for the patience and support!
Don’t overwork yourself tryin to rush, I am definitely excited for more but don’t want you to stress too much about it either!
The goat and we will be waiting.
Update is out, adding 8k new words! This update includes the first significant death in the MC’s family, and I have a new cover image for the game! For some reason cogdemos is fighting me, but I’ll get that uploaded when I can. Thanks for reading yall!
Update was amazing, cannot wait for more!
update was insane. so good. the dread i felt the ENTIRE time reading it was so intense
loved loved loved it. as always the atmosphere is super vivid in its greyness and (relative) bleakness. the only major typos/weird things i saw were:
- at one point the PC said “This sucks,” or something similar using that slang, which felt pretty modern and jarring
- there’s a typo that says “pas” where it should say “paws”
but overall it was pretty polished! excited to see what happens next
yes! it was in chapter 2, i code dived and it’s under *label tool_search. the exact text is “At first, you hear an animal trotting, but the sound changes to something different. What sounded like four pas now sounds like two heavy feet. You risk a peek up, and from your angle, you witness the shadow move toward your sister, and when you finally catch a true glimpse of the beast, you are shocked.”
@FabulousBlasphemer @Fraud_Writer I just want to take a second to thank y’all and everyone else who has been supporting the project. It is deeply appreciated!
@raywilson Thank you as well! I’m so glad you like it, and your feedback is greatly appreciated! I’ll fix up that dialogue. If you have a chance, can you identify where you found the “pas” typo?
*Edit: Thanks! Got those fixed up!
Just dropped a quick update for bugs and typos!
I would also like to let everyone know that there will not be another update until next month. I’ve gone back to school and just started my first term, so I’m giving myself a small adjustment period. That being said, I’m still working on the game, and we are good for February!
Good luck with stuff and can’t wait for that valentines update, my PC + the stone press is an unmatched romance.
Hello everyone, I come bearing news of the next update!
To start with the unfortunate part first, I doubt it will be released this month. I am actively writing, so keep an eye out for it in March! Good news is the word count grows, and while I typically don’t include the game’s code in the release info, since I’ve added a lot to it, I just wanted to mention that the game’s total word count right now is 56k words, including code.
Some things to look forward to in the next release include: a stats screen rework that includes a whole new stat! This has been an essential change because previously there were only 3 stats visible to players, so this brings it up to 4, meeting the status quo of current games a little better.
I’ve also added a glossary of in-game terms to help players better understand the world. If anyone has any suggestions for words they’d like me to include, feel free to let me know, and I’ll include them!
Finally, expect the finale of the Homestead Route for chapter 2! Which will include (spoilers ahead) the MC’s first meeting with the Devil, more death in the family, and the MC’s execution.
Thanks for reading, y’all, and thanks for your patience!
I found this thanks to someone’s recommendation on reddit, and wow, I didn’t expect to like it so much. The idea and writings are top notch, can’t wait to see more!
Oh, that’s awesome! Thanks for reading!
Could we make a pact with the devil and turn into a bad guy against the Church?
Good question, and both actions can be taken separately! Your MC makes their pact with the Devil at the end of chapter 2, right before their 13th birthday. As the journey continues with the adult MC in chapter 3, you will have more opportunities to work with or against the church.
By the end of chapter 3 will be significant choices that will affect this relationship on your journey west, causing them to either aid you or swear to hunt you down.
I’m also going to take this chance to let everyone know that I’ve finished drafting the end of the homestead route! I’m currently editing it, and when I drop it soon, expect about 22,000 new words!
Hello everyone, the update is finally out! This adds 24k new words to the game and concludes the homestead route on chapter 2, enjoy!
Edit: For those who are reading, I apologize for the hiccup. I had to make some last-second edits. The game should be playable without any further interruptions.
Big surprise for me trying to create a native MC snd then reading the homestead route.
I always appreciate a good religious horror.
If it’s not too spoilery, may I ask what kind of relationship MC can have with their “benefactor”? Will they be able to receive any demonic boons/powers?
AHHH congrats on the update!! gonna read it asap and send any typos and things i find :))
this is how i felt the first time reading this!! horrified and nauseated and also super impressed and like, immediately hooked. i think it’s because it feels so realistic and like historically grounded, the sheer violence of that opening scene is really sickeningly impactful lol. obviously there’s some fantasy stuff (what with the whole devil pact/soul being ‘sold’ deal), but the actual setting and stuff reads as so accurate, historically speaking, that it’s hard to write off the violence as “just a story.” like yes it’s fiction here, but the actual acts themselves aren’t just made up out of thin air. it makes it very haunting and impactful imo
Thank yall for reading and leaving comments!
@Banan1234 Oop, I bet that’s jarring! As of now, there are very few details added to flesh out that perspective, but something I love is that I have so much freedom to edit in this early phase of the demo, and I can already think of a few ways to support more diverse builds. That said, hopefully the only-child route is more to your liking once that’s out!
@Mastema The MC’s relationship to their “benefactor” will be a give-and-take. CHP 2 Spoilers: They’ve been saved, but also signed a contract without reading. So there will be consequences the MC isn’t aware of. And yes! Some of the “powers” are already sprinkled throughout chapter 1. Without giving too much away, the MC does have a certain affinity to fire, and there are instances of uncanny feats of strength. Plus a couple more things here and there.
@raywilson Ah! Thanks, Ray!! I appreciate it!
also forgot to mention that you almost made me throw up on the bus as I was reading the intro, so very well done! It’s not very often that gore gets to me but something about the way you write it makes it genuinely sickening to me. (This is all meant as a genuine compliment btw I realize it reads like a backhanded one)
