…I judged you.

Anyways, before we get too off topic:

I’ll be working on Winter of the Bovine for the next few months, but I’ll also be brainstorming more for The Magician’s Enigma in the meantime. If you all have any requests or suggestions for TMB’s sequel, feel free to let me know.

I’m going to be perfectly honest: that pun was completely unintentional.

Well, I’d probably have to get a idea of what the sequel’s main focus is, but the ones that come to mind at the moment:

The Light Mage using their ability to create light to help them in a offensive/defensive way. Some creatures/beings can have a particular sensitivity toward light (though I’m not sure if such creatures exist in your world), which a Light Mage could possibly exploit by using their ability to make light. Even if without a noticeable sensitivity to light, creating a flash of strong light can still leave someone disoriented and vulnerable to attack.

A chance to call out Zaleth about the fact he still sticks around even if it’s clear neither him or the Mage MC have any fondness for each other. I’m genuinely baffled about why he chooses to stick with a Mage MC he argues constantly with (or whose actions he doesn’t agree) most of the time and would like to see what kind of reaction gets provoked if the MC points that out to him (or even possibly implies that he sticks around because he’s too cowardly to face things or be in the demon world by himself).

@Blattella

I mean, if you’re offering up food, I’d like some prime ribs myself.

I posted this a few months ago, and I’ll post it here again if anyone is interested:

The Magician’s Enigma summary:

After the demon attack, there will be funerals for the characters that died. After a period of mourning, you will begin training with the powerful wizard, Melithar the Eccentric, in order to travel to the kingdom of Githrad and help them fight against an impending demon army. You will have several months to train with him (along with Violet, Mabelin, Keano, and Rigel) and the areas you can train in are: warcraft, agriculture, geography, economics, nature, history, speed, melee, long ranged weapons, stealth, and magic.

All of that training will be spread out over at least three chapters. After your training, you and your group will travel to Githrad, trying to recruit a werewolf and fairy (a new RO) to help you in your quest along the way.

When you are close to the kingdom, however, the most powerful witch in Lume, Baga, intercepts you and you all fight a vicious battle. After defeating Baga, you and your group finally get to Githrad.

This installment will likely be a minimum of 250k.

The Magician’s Enemy summary:

In Githrad, you will meet several new characters, including King Gellert and three more ROs: Izzy the royal adviser, Kidas the knight, and Jude the servant. Once at the kingdom, you will have one year to help them prepare for the looming demon war. You will be able to do things like help their army grow stronger, help grow more and better crops, try to gain as much aid from local villages and surrounding kingdoms as you can, and help barter for weapons and supplies from neighboring kingdoms and nations.

For most of the time, Melithar is away on separate business on the other side of the world, trying to deal with a powerful demon (Mendax from Demons Among Men) that is planning to be the general of the demon army. However, he tells you that he will arrive a week before the demons break into Lume, to help you fight the army.

Finally, there will be a giant battle between Githrad and the demon army, which will last several chapters. It will include an initial skirmish, a night raid, and a final battle. Afterwards, there will be some conclusions and different endings, as well as detailed prologues.

This installment will likely be a minimum of 250k.

It’s funny, I actually initially had orbs of light and flashes of light as part of the light mage’s skill-set. You only got to use it once in TMB, at the celebration to entertain the other villagers, but I’ll try to include it more in the sequels.

I will say that Zaleth gets much better towards the MC in the next two books. However, he wouldn’t really care or mind too much about his relationship with the MC being bad, as that’s like a birthday present compared to what he suffered in the Netherworld. :stuck_out_tongue: (As much as Zaleth bitches, moans, and insults, that’s just him being dramatic and petty to amuse himself.)

Yeahhh…this joke isn’t the best one to have on a vegan’s thread.

With a high enough callous or intimidation, a scene where you mess with Zaleth by imagining a horrific scene in an attempt to unnerve him.

That’s a good idea. I’ll plan on putting that in TME.

Whoops, wasn’t aware that you were a vegan. My apologies.

Mabelin, mhmm… I love her. Definitely more scenes with her.

She’ll basically have as much screentime in each sequel as she had in TMB, which is to say, A LOT. Plus another sex scene in Enigma and Enemy.

Sees Summary

Thanks for the summary. I’ll think a little more on it what would be interesting to see in the later sequel.

though I am crossing my finger for a new pet (though I may be looking forward to the werewolf, I don’t think they’d like Leto petting them all the time ).

Sorry about that. :disappointed_relieved:

Not even if the Mage MC implies that he is a weak coward? I would think the demon’s ego would not take being implied to be weak in any way.

Then I’m with @Blattella of have chances to get under Zaleth’s skin (though not necessarily because the character is callous) or put him in a vulnerable situation where he doesn’t have the Mage MC’s protection in some way. Or you know, have a bit of pain payback with my holy water bath joke.

It’s fascinating to know that the demons will have to start ice skating to work at some point in the story.

You’ll be meeting a boxer dog, Blossom, on the road to Githrad.

There will definitely be some chances to try to get back at Zaleth!

@Okami-Nora Thanks! I keep losing or breaking my pens. It’s nice to have one I can’t chew into splinters.
I also appreciate the superpowered murder-beast. I’ve already got a hypercritical, aggressive voice(mine) in my head; one more won’t matter.

@Samuel_H_Young I was hoping y’all would like it.
And I’m now curious as to why and how a five-year-old demon leaves the Underworld and becomes a talented body hijacker. Looking forward to beta-testing the next installments.

Out of curiosity, how do the demons age, anyway? Was the young Zaleth mentally comparable to a human 5-year-old

He slipped by the celestial beings guarding the portals to Lume, and hijacked you shortly after you were born. It was easy for him, since you never even knew what was going on.

They age about half the speed of humans until adulthood, when their aging rapidly slows down. Many lesser demons are hundreds of years old (Like Mendax and Kihbok) and some Masters and most Sovereigns are thousands of years old.

So at 5, Zaleth would have the comparable physicality of a 2-3 year old human, but a much higher intellect. As well as being crafty and cunning in general, demons also have to learn quickly and toughen up fast since most of them (Peons, Vermin, and Cretin) are brutalized slaves.

Hmmm…I’m having some CRAZY ideas for stories after The Magician’s Enemy…there may be at least one more book.

Zaleth here. Boss is out for a while. I understand some sort of lovers’ festival is this month, so I thought I’d leave some helpful gift-giving tips.

Treerat: This season, give the one you love the gift of life, in the form of a liver transplant.

Scratch that. Get him a still. Or a chain of distilleries!

Bookworm: A spine. And a ballgag, preferably, so he’ll shut up and I can hear myself think.

Bald Monkey: Rogaine. A bit of hair will hide that ugly face, love.

Knight: Some self-control, preferably in the form of a kick in the feminine bits. Let’s see how she likes other people sticking their legs in her business.

Fairy: A jar to keep her safe in! No need for air holes, she’ll be fine. Scout’s honor.

And whoever it is you love, I hope you have a memorable time with them, and that you break as many hearts (and bones, and intestine, and spleen) as you can.

What a work of art

Okay…there will DEFINITELY be a fourth book in this saga. I’m getting all excited just brainstorming about it, haha. I don’t even wanna reveal the title because it could give hints.

On one hand, I want to say that going after a really vulnerable vessel that wouldn’t be aware of him for a good while is a smart idea. At least he wasn’t egotistical enough to try hijacking a powerful person who could easily reject him or draw attention to himself and risking the wrath of a much more powerful demon.

On the other hand…can he really proclaim himself to be a talented/skilled hijacker of souls when he purposely went after a person who wouldn’t notice his presence for a good while and who was in no state to reject him? Feels more accurate to say he’s more opportunistic than skilled. Clever, but clearly weaker than he would ever want to admit.

…I can’t wait for him to (possibly) get a reminder of that fact :smiling_imp:.

Perceptive as usual! Yes, you’re right that him going after a vulnerable baby for a vessel doesn’t particularly speak for his hijacking prowess. But, just the fact that he can do it is rare, and at such a young age is rarer still.
