The Hunt: Demon Eyes [Moved to Twine]

Ahh I love reading about people’s MCs! ^^

He sounds great! I hope he will come out right at the end of it all :grin:

I like this demo a lot, but I do feel like the game sometimes punishes you for being cautious. And the characters are a little shortsighted, even if they don’t know you’re a Hunter, surely waking up and being disoriented and defensive and scared (more “traditional” so to speak) shouldn’t lower their relationship? It’s normal. If I woke up in a strange house with strange people I’d be scared too, and my first thought would be “get out of there”.

It’s been a while since I played it so I can’t pinpoint the exact locations right now. Maybe I’ll go through and try to find them

Opsie! Will take a look at that asap!

@Isabella_Taylor

You mean cautious in the sense of affection/ trust decrease right? Because stat balancing is something I’m still figuring out, I recently fiddled a bit with the trust increase/decrease and it should be a bit more balanced now. (As much increase opportunities as there are decrease opportunities)

I’m also thinking about getting rid of the affection bar entirely and instead using a friendship point system, which would get rid of that struggle.

But that is something I want to clean up later when there is a bit more of the demo out. ^^

But thank you for the feedback! I will keep it in mind and take another look at it :slight_smile:

Yeah, that’s what I meant! I feel like me trying to play a character who is wary of all supernaturals and has no problem with attacking those who step out of line is a playstyle that didn’t make sense with stat increases. I wanted to play a less accepting character, but if everyone is gonna like me a lot less I see very little point in doing so. It’s not like I hate them, I’m just understandably cautious because it’s easy for them to do awful things…but it seemed like every time I even thought something like that, my thoughts were somehow broadcasted all across my face and anyone in the vicinity knew how I felt.

@Ronald_Keliun fixed!

@Isabella_Taylor
Hmm, that’s strange.

I took another look at the code, and the only stat decreases are about how certain things are said/ what actions were made. None are made if there is really nothing said/done. There are a few choices that decrease affection, by a tiny bit, because the character in question doesn’t like to talk about the topic/doesn’t want to be questioned, but that seems to be it.

It might be one of those cases where I don’t see it because I know the characters and their backgrounds better than you do as of now. But if there are specific scenes that you feel don’t make sense with the stat decrease/increase, feel free to point them out to me here or write me a pm. ^^

Let’s see if we can figure out how to fix that :slight_smile:

But I also have to point out that for the supernatural characters it makes sense to be wary and not necessarily like you if they fear you might go after them.

I was planning on doing the same thing, and similar to what @tiranka said the way I was looking at it was its not so much just how you act, which like you said would be normal given the circumstances, waking up in a strange house and all with no memory, but what you are and how you act. The MC is a hunter whose sole purpose is to hunt down and kill beings like the ones you wake up and come face to face with. I think they’d be a little less wary if you were just a regular person.

Honestly, I like that system a lot so I’d be a bit sad, but if you feel you’d be more confortable with writing if you do, I’d totally understand.
If you change that though, and put a Friendship bar, will the current affection bar become a Romance bar? Because it would be redundant if you did two bars by just replacing Trust with Friendship, at least in my opinion. Even if you mean an actual point count, my point still stands (no pun intended :laughing:)

That’s what I think too on the matter, but I’m not playing such a character, as described above, so I don’t really have to take care about that. But yeah, I imagined things would be like that if I was playing way more explicitly wary. But as I said, my character was only at the very beginning, so yeah, no problem for me.

Honestly, I probably won’t end up doing that either, a lot of the time when I say I will I chicken out and just be nice and sweet, I really have to force myself to be a jerk to people in these stories and games in general. :sweat_smile:

I’m sorry I’m a bit slow today (I’m being slow cooked by the weather x.x), I’m not entirely sure I got what you meant :sweat_smile:
But this is what I had in mind instead of how it is at the moment

A bit Wayhaven-esque :wink:

Oh I see - it answers my question, thanks! :smile:
And yeah, the heat is awful here too - I feel like my brain is melting…

And also!

At this point, I don’t even try - I don’t like it. My characters are always nice in these games, though the exact personality varies. Some are shy others not, some are naive others more cautious around people… But they’re always nice.
The less “good” I did was in another WIP, where my character is very serious and stoic, so he won’t smile to people or act truly friendly, but he’s still loyal and honorable most of the time.

is mc weak and everything can kill them ? :thinking:

I mean… Humans are fragile after all x)
You just have to hit your head or your spine in the wrong way and that’s it :sweat_smile:
Hunters are not sturdier because they hunt creatures, but good aim might help indeed :wink:

sunday update 09.08

Is anyone also close to melting?

Because I am x.x (there is currently a heatwave in my country. It’s not nice, especially if you are, like me, not made for heat x.x)

Aanyway! Heatwave sadly means that I’m not getting all that much work done, and the last two weeks were rather busy with personal stuff and uni work. But I did manage to get a decent chuck down anyway and even finished Lupita’s new flirt scene! It weaves much smoother into the story and better balances out with Elian’s flirt scenes. ^^

So much for ‘Xiuying’s route will likely be faster done than Bas’ :weary:

I’ve gotten to the point where the Hunter meets Xiuying, but I still have to refine some of the choices up to that point, I hope to get that done till the next update.

I currently hope to add the ‘interlude’ to the next update. Maybe I’ll manage to do that without adding too many extra days. That would add to both Xiuying’s route and a tiny bit to Bas’ route, just the immediate effects of the spell (in his case).

And that would be it from me until the next update ^^

Stay cool, and take care, everyone! <3

Me again :grin: just reread the demo and… Oof… That game over in Elian’s home, that will teach me for being overly aggressive. That line about being forgotten before long. I guess I deserved that, right? :sob:

As for the heat don’t push yourself! I can’t stand the heat either, take your time with the updates and take care! :grin:

XD To be fair that game over was only added because someone on Tumblr really didn’t get why they couldn’t just kill Lupita and I was like ‘because that’s what happens’ x) basically it’s me being petty :joy:

There is another one of those very well hidden in chapter 2 as well x) And indeed a good way of teaching readers to maybe not be overly aggressive haha

You take care too! :yellow_heart:

Thanks! And oh I found that one too…

The hunter definitely can’t stand the heat it seems :grin:

Evidently not. I’ve learned my lesson now. No more of me being an aggressive ass to these guys, I do not want to piss them off, I wind up dead and they casually go out for drinks :sweat_smile:
