You’ll also find that a lot of religions are just changes to a previous one like evolution. As something happens the religion fractures with some believing one thing and others going in a different direction (Jewdaism -> Christianity -> Islam) or absorbing parts of another (Greek -> Roman). The story is writen based on this so as your religion starts to fracture you’ll have to chose which direction you want to follow.
This includes things like the eventual evolving into the sidelined religion mixed with emerging science (or becoming a sort of patron for that science) or evolving into the god if those resistant to change and devoted to the past rituals and beliefs.
Please don’t expect this to accurately become religions that you know around the world. Your people may become a sea faring warrior nation of many gods that they spend minimal time on actual worship over but that doesn’t mean they’re a poorly represented Viking Nation. It’s your own religion of your own design with small parts from many different cultures.
I love this! (and I’m guessing you’re a Pratchett fan?)
I think I’ve found a bug, however - I’m fairly sure Aire died in Chapter Two from the snake bite, but in Chapter Three she’s somehow alive again?
Yea a few people have mentioned about that, im just trying to work that out now. Its difficult to catch all these problems but people in the forums are doing an amazing job catching them.
Thanks so much for your encouragement, I’ll try to get some more of it out soon.
Could I make Aire my champion? I mentioned this before but I really want her to become my champion Like we have a strong link with our chosen champion and while our believers grow we can keep a powerful mental connection with them and communicate with them, and if they fufill our wishes and demands and grow our believers, we can grant them gifts such as relics and tools infused with a tiny piece of our power (which to a human, is very magical). They are our representative, greatest warrior and messenger. Whenever a tribe attacks our champion can challenge their best fighter in single combat to determine a swift victory/defeat.
Depending on the path you take in the coming part of chapter 3 there is a scenario whereby your favourite fights for you. A couple of other scenarios though…
This may become an issue that you are immortal and your followers are not, thereby causing me to have to kill them all soon for new people due to the passage of time. Its possible I can have the chosen favourite do a sort of reincarnation throughout the game although that might just be irritating…
More of a passed on title. Once the current champion dies or is too old to continue, we find successor by choosing a believer who show qualities that please us (courage, leadership, devotion etc.) it could be a ceremony actually. When it’s time to choose a new champion believers gather to the spirit’s favourite place (like the great vault) to prove their worth to us.
Immortality for a champion would make things a little complicated. I really like Aire but giving her immortality might ruin her character.
The issue is that at one point a lot of time will pass. The game begins in a sort of stone age and has verged into the bronze age already but bringing it into an industrial revolution will require a lot of time to pass without ceremonies happening so much. Also champions will become less important as the community grows…
@Nathan_Faxon
Maybe. The story is meant to be about the evolution of a religion through your followers and not all champions or prophets are fighters or warriors. Your main person will be remembers throughout the religion though and will influence how it progresses slightly.
@Scribblesome
Although it may not seem it the game is also designed so that there is still no actual evidence that the spirits really exist. People hear voices and see sights but its individuals, not whole nations. No prayers are answered and the powers you gain are all things that are attributed to higher powers in different religions and cultures but are now seen as natural phenomenon.
Its difficult to explain immortality in a way that will allow for science in the future of the game which will become an important transition point for your religion.
So maybe a champion of the tribe can be one of our favourites that become a historical figure rather than somebody we bestow power upon? I’m cool with that
I just wanted to say that this is a great game! Now, this is just a suggestion from one person, so take it with a grain of salt, but I was thinking that since I want to center my religion around conquest, maybe we could choose champions based on merit in battle and have them be the leaders, perhaps imbuing a bit of our power upon them? Just a thought.
That kind of happens in reverse later in this chapter. You influence your followers and your followers influence you. If you’re an aggressive leader you’ll find your believers become aggressive (your champion specifically)
At the same time each of the 5 champions contribute something different to the culture (Organised Religion, Law and Order, Exploration, Science, Spiritual Support)
I’m not really sure how splits would happen in a world where gods are real. I mean, unless a totally different god successfully usurps your identity, but then people would have two different gods’ voices in their heads at once telling them different things, which would totally fuck with them…
Why would industrialization require the cessation of ceremonies?
Science doesn’t conflict with religion in a world where gods are demonstrably real and perform regular miraculous acts.

Yes there is evidence from your own point of view but other than that you are not demonstrably real. People of this world would argue that gods are real due to the miraculous acts your describing. People have eaten meals provided by the gods or felt their healing touch.
I have now updated the link to add in some of the changes. Ive also unlocked slightly further through the story for people to try although please feedback issues and concerns as you have been already.
Also does anyone know how I can unlock the topic title for editing again?
