It’s live! I’ve updated the public demo of The Eternal Library! :tada:

You can now play both routes through chapter five in their entirety. :woman_dancing:

The Public Demo is now up to 180,000 words!

The Patreon Demo is just shy of 200,000 words, including my progress so far on chapter 6!

New material includes:

  • POV scenes that bring insight into Prince Collin and the royal family.
  • Intrigue, drama, and the business of the kingdom.
  • A letter from Angelina and a chance to write her a response.
  • Romantic moments with Collin, Sevitas, and Marienna.
  • A chance to spar after a tense exchange.
  • And more!

I posted an update in the writer’s support thread, for those of you who are interested in how things are going:

As always, please let me know if you find bugs or typos in the game.

I hope you enjoy the update! :crown:

Brightest blessings to you and yours this season! :dizzy:

Thank you for the warm welcome back!

I was hoping the update would bring you joy for the Christmas season. I originally launched the demo around this time last year, and wanted to do something special again for readers like yourself. I hope you enjoy it! :revolving_hearts::christmas_tree::glowing_star:

This story is wonderful, really well-written and does a great job at drawing you in, in my opinion! Love the different ROs, especially Collin and Dorian, adoring the poly route with them!

I did find a couple minor mistakes in Chapter 4 though.

Minor Spoilers

First, on your visit to the Library, you can question Temphesta on whether or not she’s been before, but you still ask the same question after returning to her room. Second, choosing to check on the kitchen staff over going to the dungeon has you brought to the Guards room and given a sheath and armored shirt, but the scene in Temphesta’s room is written as though you don’t have those, and she provides you with them.

Hi! Thanks so much for playing! I’m glad you’re enjoying the story overall.

Thanks for pointing out these discrepancies in ch4. That’s not how I was trying to code it, obviously. EDIT: I’ve made changes so the conversation with Temphesta only occurs once, and hopefully clarified the King’s Guard uniform later in the chapter. Edits are uploaded and shouldn’t mess with anyone’s saves as I didn’t change the startup file.

Have a fabulous weekend! :tada:

IMO it’s hard to find romance that I find appealing on these apps, but your writing and pacing are difference maker, so much so that I don’t even mind the slow burn. Didn’t notice you wrote the other two books I bought, your stories have easily joined the group of books I buy without question. Keep up the terrific work.

Thank you! What a wonderful compliment! I’m so glad you’re enjoying my stories.

I did not know this was even a name. I often just smash letters together to create fantasy names, or take a name I’m familiar with and change something to make it more unique. Sometimes I use BehindTheName.com (which just informed me that Zai is, in fact, a name), but I don’t always check if I’m in the flow of writing and want to carry on. I like your brother’s name. I will try not to do anything terrible to the archivist in honor of your brother.

Yes! They are stolen romantic moments, of course, brief and still reserved at this point in the story, but they are definitely there.

Before this thread goes dormant again, I wanted to pop in and say I’m working on The Eternal Library slowly but surely. It will be a while before I release another public demo as I want to have enough content to make it worthwhile, but I’ll be sure to let you know when it’s ready. :revolving_hearts:

I’ve been diving down rabbit holes of homesteading videos, garden planning, and preparing for our first chickens this spring. It’s a lot of fun and a healthy distraction, which is the best kind. :herb:

I hope the new year is treating you well thus far. Hard to believe it’s already February! Time is flying, but I’m chipping away at The Eternal Library little by little, and the story continues to grow. :crown:

Thank you for sharing this! I love learning the meaning behind different names. Your parents chose a wonderful name for your brother. :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Just wanted to comment that I am really having fun with this! I’ve been stuck in bed more often recently due to being unwell, and this has been one of the IFs keeping me company. I’ve reread several times, and am enjoying the kingdom cleanup in chapter 5. MC getting to spend time with Collin, Marienna, and Nevarie (+ Sevitas and Gemma when they’re available) has been delightful.

There were a couple things from the end of chapter 4/chapter 5 that I wanted to check/highlight. Not sure how best to do that, sorry! With coding and writing to keep track of, you’re doing a fantastic job, and I haven’t had any issue with coding throughout reading.

It’s stuffy in the room. The fire has been built up hot. “We’re trying to expel the poison,” says the healer beside you, who wears red robes.

I think this might be intended to be “beside Collin” or “beside him”, as MC is not present during Collin’s chapter 4 POV section.

Collin looks from the mirror to you, and says, "They’ll take hours to get to Brighten Bay.

I believe this should be Brighton, but might have gotten hit with a spell check (it’s a valid spelling as a city in the UK, but spell check might not recognise that).

“All right,” says Collin. “Let her destroy herself, then. I’ve seen her glare at Dawson as if she hates him. She was never worthy of his heart.” He shakes his head at the chaos of the room. “Weaver help me, I don’t even know where to start.”

“I’ll check to see if my sister has arrived,” offers Mari.

The prince nods and Marienna heads out the door.

Then the start of the next page, after a few more lines:

“Weaver help me, I don’t even know where to start.” The prince shakes his head at the state of the room, then turns to Marienna. “Has your sister arrived?”

“I’ll go check,” she says, and heads out the door.

This repeats, so Marienna leaves the room twice.

General Adamis details how many troops are stationed across the kingdom. A thousand in Port Tritton.

I think this might be Port Triton, mentioned by Temphesta in chapter 4?

I’m looking forward to spending more time with the characters as the story progresses in the future. I’ve missed Dorian and Temphesta, and Dorian’s rivalry with Sevitas. I’m also curious to see just how brazen Collin is going to get with his gift giving (the first dagger you ever commissioned, AND an outfit that matches yours and MC’s eyes? I see what you’re doing there, mister, and I approve. MC deserves sweet gestures).

Thanks so much for your kind and helpful feedback! I really appreciate you catching details like these, and it’s wonderful to hear that you’re enjoying the characters.

Have you played the other route for chapter five yet, going with Dorian and Temphesta to Trillivum? It does take you away from Collin but gives insights into that side of things. And, yes, the friendship-rivalry of Sevitas and Dorian is fun! You mentioning it reminds me I need to weave more of that into upcoming chapters.

I hope you feel better soon! Thanks for reading The Eternal Library! :crown:

Edit: I’ve made the changes in my current draft so the typos/inconsistencies are fixed, but I might not update the demo for a little while. Hoping to have a new public demo ready in a month or so, with the first part of chapter six included.

I have not yet! Sometimes I will play every route available, but often I like to stick with one general path and check out different choices within that, based on the vibe I have for my MC. I was very much considering it, because I miss Temphesta’s presence and am looking forward to seeing more of her. My MC definitely went from wary to ready to support her over a few chapters too. Seeing how things played out with Trillivum would be interesting too.

I did catch one other thing about a certain disapproving duke. Early on, when exploring some of the alternative options around the Door Incident, I noticed he’s Duke Saspama. In chapter 5, he’s mostly referred to the same way, except a couple of lines during his introduction:

Duke Suspama of Sacora is severe enough that you’re not surprised

Slowly, Duke Suspama turns cold eyes to you.

He most certainly is Duke Sus, considering some of the company he keeps! Birds of a feather, and all that. Looking forward to chapter 6.

@leiatalon Any news on the fae knight path idea?

He is indeed. I try to change up the wording on his name so it’s not as repetitive. He is the Duke of Sacora (the province), and Saspama is his name. Nasty piece of work, by all accounts.

Glad you’re enjoying it and thanks again for the excellent feedback!

While this isn’t a main focus and won’t be coming up anytime soon, it may be included as an option toward the end of the game. For now, there’s more emphasis placed on the MC becoming part of the court and accepted as one of Collin’s inner circle. Love that you’re running with the idea, though!
