I think it comes from people not trusting the story progression, for one; and thinking that we’re closer to the end than we are, for another. And maybe I’m reading the tenor of the emotions expressed on this thread incorrectly, but I don’t think it’s a stronger feeling than just a bit of general anxiousness that this isn’t the story people were expecting. A lot of the readers here are reacting as if Lea told them she was giving them Schindler’s List but the opening credits were to “Springtime for Hitler” from The Producers. The thing is, she’s been very clear about what she’s writing and what she wants. A lot of us are reading a story that isn’t there because we are reacting not to what’s been written and not to what Lea says is the plan; we are reacting to what’s being said (and at times repeated exhaustively) in the comments on this thread.
Yes, sometimes it is difficult to trust the author. But she’s been very clear and forthright with us, and I don’t think that this should be one of those times. Some of us may have to work a little harder to suspend our disbelief this time around, others of us may have to face the idea that this particular story isn’t the right fit for them, still others may not be bothered over any of it at all. But I do feel that this thread and the criticism on it has become rather counterproductive and I am chalking that up to the emotion and frustration behind the story not matching up on the page to the story they were considering it would be in their head. I have felt a bit of that at times; times when it feels as if the plot is racing ahead and leaving me, as the reader, further and further behind. I just don’t see how it helps to try and nit-pick the tale into a completely different shape than that of what it is and what it is meant to be. It’s why I’ve stopped posting criticisms on the thread entirely; because I wasn’t helping either.
I think we all, really, need to take a step back and wait to see where the story is going to go. Let it move and breathe on its own for a while. Stop panicking over it not feeling right until we have more of it to judge. Lea has a specific vision. Let’s all calm down so she can show it to us.
