That makes a lot of sense! I’ll mess around with it and see what I can do ![]()
Hey Shannon! ![]()
Would MC have the possibility to become OP and/or feel badass?
Through the possibility to do something really outstanding on the battlefield and via a hobby, fight/lead as Commander Shepard, play/sing like Freddie Mercury, draw/paint à la Rembrandt
, with the ability to vividly see the outcome of their achievement and the reactions of squad mates, soldiers and civvies. Like, they fight like a devil some fear them, others admire them. Fear and awe.
Also, having the option to not be a punching bag, and to be able to protect friends/epsilons at the camp during the downtime scenes and so on, would be cool (like in a fight scene with Courtier against bully sergeant).
I think POVs (of squad mates, etc.) will come in handy greatly. Thanks to different POVs we could better understand how the world sees MC and, based on reactions and inner monologues, better understand our squaddies. And overall, I think it’s a great tool for deepening the lore and the plot.
Portion of inspiration (music)
Music on YouTube (link and video title):
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kmUueaXyio8&t=430s Dramatic Music for your Villain Arc - A Moth to A Flame (Full Mix) - best for villain arc, introspective scenes.
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WvGjrSvb8wI&t=173s - Best of Rok Nardin (Epic/Trailer Music) - best for climactic battles and epic set-pieces.
Hope you enjoy it. I listen to this to deepen immersion while reading, especially during intense, dramatic and dark scenes.
Have a wonderful day!
Oh absolutely!! There will be more opportunities as the story unfolds and the team gets deeper into conflict.
I really enjoy POV scenes in stories so will definitely be having some throughout this one.
I cackled at this thank you hahah
Nice story!
I assume the doggie name is fixed? I named my Vanguard “Vesper” and got confused when Courtier talked with their dog xD Would be funny if characters reacted to this.
Whats a mind medic?
Omg i bet that was a funny surprise
Yes the dog’s name is fixed as Vesper. I will add in a message pop up during the naming choice so people will get a heads up if a custom name is already in use in the story haha
Mind medics act as psychiatrists and therapists in the field
when playing this role, you’ll gain deeper insight into character motivations. Your MC can perceive and pick up on the mental state of others and additional dialogue options open up based on that knowledge. Two specific examples of this take place in Flex’s training as well as Fizz’s.
A bit strange how a supposed super soldier seems so weak but other than that I like the idea of the story.
Thanks for the feedback, glad you’re liking the idea so far! Strength can come in many different shapes. What do you mean by weak? Like physically? MC hasn’t had too much of a chance to show everyone what they’re capable of just yet, that’ll come into play in the next update ![]()
Can’t settle for a class, for I don’t think this choice depends on the MC but the Allied Ministry’s priorities, which I don’t know how much you should reveal about. So what I do, is choose one of the classes the crew seems to lack (Mind Medic or Tactician) and gather what the ministry would have prioritized to send in hindsight. I still don’t know, MC is hardy and likely trustworthy-looking, they are are to help at every opportunity, they can be hacked, they aren’t to rise into a position of authority, should have a mechanism to avoid getting scavenged, make for good infantry. Help?
Personally, I went with the mech strategist because of the prominence of technology on the battlefield would be a boon to the unit should it be appropriated and having a strategic mind reinforces the ability to use our enemy’s tech on the battlefield.
I’m kidding, I actually picked it because I assumed the ‘mech’ part was referring to mecha and piloting one around would be awesome. Hindsight, should’ve known better, but tech and strategy is still a smart combo.
Anyways, I’d consider field medic in your situation; it keeps you helping people in the field, requires being equipped for combat at any moment like infantry, generally wouldn’t put into a leadership position since they specialize in keeping people from dying, and you’d probably want the person stitching you back together to look trustworthy.
Well as a super soldier are you not meant to have super strength speed endurance intelligence and I would guess you would want them to have zero personality to be nothing more than killing machines.
You really can’t go wrong with any class! The Ministry’s priorities and needs are vast. With the program being new, they’re more in a testing phase of things and so won’t have prioritized one specific class yet.
From the back end of things, class really determines 1) starting skill boost and 2) what challenges/tasks your MC will face in missions. Certain classes will be placed in specific situations.
For example:
-Mind Medic is a good one if you like dealing with relationships and personal connection. They’ll be faced with challenges involving helping soldiers through traumatic moments and keeping them calm in tense situations. Hostage negotiations and prisoner questioning for enemy info may come up too!
-Tacticians will deal with having to make decisions on how to approach problems using the entire squad’s strengths and weaknesses and delegating their roles accordingly. Some of the class situations will blend together, like if you want heavy action and fighting scenes, a Gunner, Skirmisher, and Sentinel will see to that. Gunners and Skirmishers dealing more with gaining ground, Sentinel’s with holding it.
-For classes that deal with the aftermath of things you’ll want to go with Survival Strategist or Field Medic
-On the flip side of that, Hackers, Bioengineers, and Mech Strategists will have involvement in a lot of the prep work before the big battles but also with less obvious ways of infiltration and pushing the enemy back
This is how I am going to approach the battles and missions in the upcoming chapters, anyway. There is always some wiggle room to rearrange class involvement as I write in the moment. But that’s a bit of the outline I am keeping in mind while writing. In the chapters released so far, we haven’t seen toooooo much of the class situations, but we are getting there ![]()
Hope this general break down helps, but if I can offer any more info, please let me know!
You’re not wrong! I envision the mech strategist being the closest to hard core engineers. The one’s that set up heavy guns, salvage/hotwire enemy “tanks” in the moment. There may be some opportunities for piloting mecha type machinery thrown in there too
and you painted such an accurate picture of how I envision a field medic to be!
True! Although, the Ministry is so desperate to gain an upper hand on the Order, they are just flinging everything they’ve got into the fray. So the creators of the Vanguards have delivered bodies that can pull triggers, take more hits than the human soldiers, and follow orders without question. Their creators did not plan on or even think about the development of personalities. But once they came about, they surmised that it wouldn’t hinder the Vanguard’s in the field, but would make them more easily accepted amongst the other soldiers.
I’ve enjoyed dealing with the hemomancers, especially Evangeline. Being hated from the get go makes me wanna break into the character’s comfort zone even more, and ingratiate myself to them. Eva ticks all those boxes, and learning her life story has been a treat so far!
Makes sense, a bit foolish of a risk of them to not think about them developing personalities seems like a real danger honestly.
Yess!! I’m so glad you feel this way. It’s been really fun to write the dynamic between MC and E ![]()
