The Earth Has Teeth by Harris Powell-Smith (Chapters 1-3, updated 20th October)

Seems like this scene is cut off (I decided to reach for my dagger)

And the next scene is mixed up too

forgot to include this hehe. tiny detail but i assume this is meant to be Tests Questioning. It does do the test though so it’s just a phrasing (?) error but still

@bangdream That’s great, thanks for giving me a heads up on them - those will be fixed next time I update

(edit: they’re fixed now, as I realised I had a little bit of time before going out)

Which, of course, happened mid-playthrough so I had to start over  but luckily two chapters isn’t that much, and that meant I don’t need to report the bug I encountered.

Random notes (with screenshots)

“Higgledy-piggledy” certainly made its way on my “favourite words” list.

Vastan is awesome.

I keep reading “Pärnu” and getting confused when it seems to be just whatever passes for a gas station in this world.

Ahh sorry about the playthrough reset, and thank you for the stats and comments! Heh, I’d not realised that Pärnu was a real city - I may change it up when I have a moment. (Must not get distracted looking at pictures of Pärnu…)

Firstly, the name of this game is probably one of the best I’ve come across in recent years. Admittedly its a low bar, as some games have terrible names. So I’ll extend this compliment, this is an excellent name, one of the best in recent years across the entire genre of the written word.

Secondly, your efficient but evocative worldbuilding, and tight narrative is so compelling. Your previous stories were excellent, loved them. But this is such a different structure and feeling. Love you for being talented and brave enough to go different, as frankly your previous games are so successful and recognised as high quality now, that you can just keep making big hit games set at schools. It’s really interesting when a writer changes course.

This, this is my new favourite. I’m tied solely to the MC right now, reading Chapter 2, no interaction with the NPCs until 2 seconds ago, and I’m was completely satisfied just reading desperately what will happen next to the MC. It’s so compelling. Beautiful concept and ideas.

That’s all. Sorry no feedback, just compliments.

That’s so incredibly kind, thank you so much! I’m really touched. It’s been really refreshing and fun to explore a different kind of game - though a bit intimidating as well, so I’m really glad that you’re enjoying this one as much as my others! Thank you again!

Starts here, loved it and can’t wait for more

Thank you so much, I’m really pleased that you enjoyed it!

Another physically impossible Supplies value of -1, I see… the laws of reality haven’t quite been fixed in the PC’s backpack yet. I’ll have a closer look into that!

Wait, were we supposed to copy-paste stuff? I never got that screen.

It’s the final page that comes up (along with a blurb about “here’s where to discuss the game” etc), it might be that you clicked away before reaching it? Were you playing on itch or cogdemos, I might have made an error somewhere.

cogdemos. I clicked away at the “play from the beginning/more games like this/etc.” screen.

Huh, strange! I checked and am not sure what would be causing that. I did realise I’d missed the skip-chapter file on the latest update so corrected that, but can’t spot anything else obvious. It should ping you to the checkpoints options and then go to the “thanks for playing, here are links and the stat list” bit.

Hey, Harris? Problem.

"It’s hard to imagine why Alyona would have left by choice. She wasn’t a seasoned traveler herself. She wasn’t a seasoned traveler herself. Could they have fought?

Looking at the sack Alyona was carrying, the contents are spoiled or partially-eaten now but she couldn’t have been carrying enough to travel a long way. Nor was she a seasoned traveler herself. If they were here, surely they wouldn’t have abandoned her body in the open like this."

Or stutter, I do sometimes stutter. But for some reason, I get the impression that Alyona wasn’t a seasoned traveler.

Haha! Well they do say it can be good to give information several times so it fully sinks in

Thank you! I’ll have a look and sort that out.

If read late enough at night (probably why I missed it last night) it’s easy to think “oh, I was just falling asleep.” I had a good laugh this afternoon when I saw that no…it really was there! :joy:

The phrasing here is a bit off, I think. “Avenge” doesn’t quite fit here.

Something like “I’ll avenge our fallen” would work, or “I’ll get revenge on whoever did this”, but “I’ll avenge whoever did this” sorta crosses the streams a bit.

That first fight you get into in the first chapter seems a bit off to me.

Fight Stuff

First, this was the first strike of the fight, nothings injured me so far as I could tell.

Second, if my first strike in the fight is so deep into their neck that I feel my blade touch bone, it just feels weird that the fight keeps going. And it feels even weirder when I cut his throat after the fight, because I’m pretty sure I already did that as my first strike. I think a less serious injury would be better if you don’t want that first strike to end the fight.
