I was thinking about having this as a running gag if the heroes choose to be hostile and try to kill you all the time.
The heroes are walking around when you suddenly show up after dying for the third time
“What? How many times do we have to kill you?” Shouts the warrior of the party.
“As many times as it takes for you to accept me into the group!” You reply sarcastically.

Oh I’m going to mess with those guys so much
So if they have to kill you a different way each time, it could get interesting with their later attempts.

Indeed, they are going to have to get creative.
At first, a sword would be enough.
Then, an arrow maybe?
Later, magic, obviously.
And then, uh… should we make a trap or something?
/puts a rabbit under a cardboard box held up with a stick, then hides in a bush holding string tied to the string/ that kitsune will never know what hit him.

Kitsune: Helllooooo! Heroes? Alright, you win. You are the players of hide-and-seek ever born. Come out now! sees the trap OOO A BOX!!! grabs the box and puts it on head

Dang it, even I had to like that one.
Whatever good has a sane mind produced? Everyone good thing that came into this world came from a partly crazed mind…
How insane would we be like a sociopath, phycho or just weird?
So how durable are the heroes? Will I be able to leave them in their time of need or “forget” to tell them about traps and be confident they’ll come back later to yell at me about it?
@Dark_Stalker
The chaotic evil would be more like a sociopath, the chance is even greater if someone manages to lock him/her up for a long time before the MC manages to escape by scratching the wall or something, leaving the place with a deep hatred against humans.
The chaotic neutral would be a be more manipulative, like a psychopath, trying to fool the humans with good actions and then backstabbing them in the last moment or something. Includes some general craziness.
And the chaotic good would lean more toward the weird side, talking to himself/herself, having a short attention span, and lacking the ability to see anything as wrong, it is the most “innocent” version of the insane MC.
By the way, insanity is part of the story, but it does not have to be the main focus, it is possible to talk to the heroes and become their ally without actually getting killed and losing sanity. (The MC would want to avoid getting killed, because it still hurts a lot.)

Do you remember when you are playing an adventure/RPG game, and then your hero/heroes fall in a trap/ambush? Exactly, you always get out of the situation alive, be it by brute force, being smarter than the enemy, or simply getting saved by a Deus Ex Machina (A random guy who saves the main character from certain death but does not really appear in the main plot later)
But if they actually die for some reason later in the story, you could always save/take over the world with your own party. (Hooray for companions!)
@Generikb
Why do you think that the MC loses sanity after dying?
Experiencing death more than once can really mess someone up.
About getting stuck in a trap, you could always use your abilities, or simply dig/scratch your way out of the deep hole/metal cage/dungeon/whatever.
Remember, the MC has all the time in the world
The “immunity after death” only works when the MC actually gets killed by someone or something, so if that trap had wooden spikes at the bottom of a hole, the MC would become immune to wooden spikes and/or death by falling from a high place. You cannot starve to death (For reasons that will be explained in-game, I’m not going to explain it here because SPOILERS!!!11one)
Plot twist: You get locked up in a dungeon, and then, 20 years later, you manage to escape. Now the heroes are ruling the kingdom like tyrants and you have to defeat them. Dun dun dun.
That is one way of exploring “time travel”.

This is your answer mr ballmot
Will you reawaken in the same place?
@Dark_Stalker
Yeah, unless someone drags the MC around while he/she is unconscious.

Okay, so I just took a break from writing and decided to spend a few minutes messing around with photoshop (trying to come up with ideas for the cover art).
This is what happened:
What do you guys think about this? Is the jester hat too silly? Is the whole drawing too weird? Any suggestions are welcome

Maybe have a chaotic neutral part
Wouldn’t a Kitsune make a better cover art?
@Interestedparty
That shouldn’t be hard to do, it would look like this
instead of this
@TechDragon610
I tried, trust me, I really tried, but I always had a hard time getting the tails right, and the kitsune needs to look kinda human, because it is a half-breed, so it always ended up looking like a furry.
I had to replace the whole thing with a kitsune head and a human one to show both sides of the MC, but I get your point, I might try to draw a kitsune character later.
@ballmot It took a little bit for me to adjust to the narrator speaking directly to me in the middle of the text, but I gotta say it does add zest to things, I like how death lurks realistically around the corners of all my decisions, alongside the power and the option to examine each one before deciding officially, with a little input of our favorite narrator. Keep it up I look forward to further development. My precious kitsune won’t rest until it has all its tails. Or otherwise satisfied.
Speaking of designs…for an animal, and something simple, such as a kitsune. I may be able to lend a hand there next week. Have a friend draw a kitsune for you and see what you think. How many tails are you looking for?
