The Beast Within | Demo Coming Soon

In the poll thread @idonotlikeusernames said “A Royal Romp” a few times. Which accurately describes the game quite well.

Unfortunately, there’s a movie that goes by that name already. So maybe something along those lines for a new title.

Any suggestions? In the meantime, I’ll get on that coding.

I don’t mean to be annoying, but that’s not what I meant.

I just wonder if you get to choose the gender of the individual romance options or if it is stabilized once you choose the MC’s gender.

For example: if I choose to play as a princess, do some characters become female and some other NB automatically? or every time I am introduced to a new one do I get an option that is like “Harper is the only woman that I trust” / “Harper is the only person that I trust”?

Apologies. Sometimes I forget that you can’t tell I’m not being serious over the internet. Lol.

To clarify, I wasn’t actually annoyed. I was just being dramatic, I didn’t mean to make you feel like I believe you’re annoying.

At the moment, all ro’s have the same pronouns because I’m lazy. It had occurred to me people might want a cast that isn’t comprised of only one gender, but my laziness won the day.

Also, that is a whole new can of worms to open and right now I’m just trying to get through character creation.

Edit:// With all that being said, at the moment I think I’ll keep all of the RO’s having the same pronouns.

IT’S HERE!?!?? yesyesyesyesyes thankyouthankyou

(I am disappointed no one told me it was up @ParrotWatcher :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye: )

I really like the way you describe this as a fondness  It sounds so casual and affectionate :relaxed:

But my hopes and dreams, those are up :joy:
So cruel

Agreed  Though I am curious about the others too! I’ll see what they’re like once the demo is up and I am no longer a sucker :stuck_out_tongue:

Iiv is pronounced sort of like “Eve” but really drawn out, like eeeeev :pensive:

The Tale of the Cute Gay Prince or Princess? I am so good at titling :triumph:

Ohhh, that’s pronounced “eeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeee” :pensive:

(Which is also the sound I made in my head on seeing this thread )

So is this something you could show us? :innocent:

Also, question, if MC is nonbinary, do you choose Biaerncard’s gender, or how does that work? Are they always a different gender from Rowan?

For all we know that’s how they flirt.

Better than me!

Art at bottom of the post.

Bianca/Bernard is always the opposite of your gender preference. You’re a lesbian, he’s Bernard. Gay? Bianca. Non-binary and like men? Still Bianca. The only case that’s different is if you’re nonbinary and only date other non-binary people. Then they’re defaulted to Bernard because that’s what popped up when I pressed paste.

Edit:// Added 2 year old art of Necromancer. Also name reveal.

You may need to repost your own awesome fanart from the poll thread too TSSL.

Have I just stumbled upon a great new W.I.P in the making? I think I have. BRING ON THE GAY PRINCES AND PRINCESS!

Check and check! I was really hoping this would get made  and for anyone complaining I’ll share the words I have heard sooooo many times before: “Just accept it or play as a guy” I’m sure you’ll find those words as comforting and helpful as I did :stuck_out_tongue:

“I got you a zombie. Will you go out with me?” :rose::zombie:

Given that I’ve been working on something called “Psychic College Thingy,” I don’t know… :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Okay, I can see why that would get confusing if you let players choose other characters’ genders separately
So if the MC is binary, but the ROs are nonbinary, do you get Bianca, or Bernard?

:flushed: I’m torn between my disapproval of kidnapping people and, well… :flushed:

Not that I’m really sure how much it has to do with the actual characters  but okay, I’ll go look.
And wow, I did go a bit wild in that poll thread, oops  oh dear, I was the most frequent poster?

This was the post with the most relevant fanart :stuck_out_tongue: being a stick figure representation of the plot summary.

Listen, I like this. I really do. The premise of going on an adventure to rescue a supposed romantic partner that you are not remotely attracted to alongside a group of companions who you technically shouldn’t be attracted to (despite how amazing they seem) actually seems really interesting, and I’ll probably end up playing it when you grace us with your finished work (or a demo, not entirely sure I could wait that long). I only have one complaint, and it’s a stupid one that has nothing to do with the story itself at all. You can’t really say that the game allows you to choose your character’s orientation when they’re locked as being homosexual, you know? To be one hundred percent clear, I’m not complaining about setting the player character as homosexual, it goes without saying that if it really bothered me that much I could just find a different story. It just seems inaccurate, to be honest. And I know, gay and lesbian aren’t the same thing, and it’s a different situation when one of the characters is non-binary, but they all fall underneath the blanket category of homosexual, you know? I’m sorry for making this comparison, but if there was a game that forces the player to be heterosexual, but claims to let players choose their orientation because non-binary characters get to choose whether they’re attracted to men or women, it’s safe to say the author would be up the creek.

Now, with that out of the way, I actually have a few questions. I think it’s safe to assume that King Duncan isn’t the most ‘accepting’ of people, so if the player chooses to have their character be non-binary, would he address them as such? And again on the topic of non-binary main characters, would choosing for your character to be attracted to men or women imply that they are biologically of that gender? Given that the game is about homosexuality, and it wouldn’t make sense for a non-binary character born as a male to be betrothed to another man, considering the setting. And if the spouse is set to Bernard if the player chooses to be a non-binary character attracted to other non-binary people, does that mean anyone choosing to play that way is biologically female?

I’m sorry if I offend anybody with this, I’m just trying to think about the story as a whole.

In that case they would be the opposite of your binary gender. Knew I was forgetting something.

Yes. I can. It’s not so much orientation locked as orientation restricted. (And I’ll change that in the info) You just can’t be straight. You can be gay, lesbian, androsexual, gynesexual, and skiliosexual. Even if those qualified as the same thing, which they don’t, you can also be asexual, or polyamorous, which both definitely don’t only fall under the umbrella of “gay.”

He will always address you by your preffered pronouns.

He’s got his head up his arse. Even if you’re the most flamboyantly queer person on the planet, he’s not going to notice until you bring it up with him. His reaction differs based on a few factors, but it will never be “You’re a monster get out of my house.” Or… castle.

Not intentionally. The player’s primary sex characteristics will not be discussed in the game.

Also, real fast. Sex = what you were assigned at birth. Gender = What you identify as.

Transguy here. Just trying to clear up the confusion.

Once again, no.

When you play as a nonbinary character, or male or female, the gender you were assigned at birth will not be addressed. It’s irrelevant to the story.

Different gender identities and sexual orientations aren’t considered taboo in Parus. It’s only taboo for royalty. Marriages that can’t produce biological offspring get more frequent the lower the social status.

In short: the game does not assume or ask for what your character was assigned at birth. If there ever was an issue, it’s one that has already been addressed.

You should really stop worrying about the privates of all these fictional characters. I think they’re starting to feel awkward.

I just have a problem with being really logical. It gets me into more trouble than it gets me out of, believe me.

But this right here is exactly my point. The player character IS a member of the royalty, so arranging a marriage with someone of the same sex would be taboo, no?

Aww…but understandable, seeing where you’re coming from.

Well personally I do like it if npc’s consider my mc to be cute/hot/hunky/sexy, etc guy. Then again this world has magic that might go to the point of allowing anybody who has or can pay for the talent to become, or at least pass as a very attractive version of what they desire to be.

There are two solutions to the problem you’re presenting that I can think of. One would be to ask players what their character was assigned at at birth. The nonbinary people I know are uncomfortable with that question, so I don’t really want to ask it.

And the second would be removing the option to present as nonbinary, which I don’t want to do either.

My question to you is, are you planning on playing a nb character? If not, then maybe don’t worry about it too much? If you are, do you have any suggestions?

That’s where the customization comes in.

I’m at work right now so I cant check the code, but I believe there are five body types, four heights, 21 hair colors, five hair lengths with five styles for each, 10 eye colors and several facial shapes. Characters will react and comment on your appearance based on selections you make.

I’ll make a poll asking what people want when I get off work.

I’m not non-binary, so I can’t really say how it would feel, but some part of me thinks it would actually improve the story itself if a non-binary MC has a set sex. It somewhat ties into the main message of the story, I think. The world, in particular the King, assumes that the character is a certain way, and tries to force that on to them regardless of what they truly are. Wouldn’t it make sense that a man who forces his child into a relationship with someone they aren’t even capable of being attracted to would also do his best to force said child into the role of the gender they were assigned at birth, rather than the one to which they truly belong?
Again though, I’m not non-binary, and even still a significant part of me can see how someone who is might be uncomfortable with a game having them make that choice. I would also never suggest that you just remove the option entirely, since it has the possibility of adding quite a bit to the story, as well as making more than a few people happy. The best solution I can offer is treating it somewhat similarly to the character’s sexuality, with King Duncan III being like, “You’re a boy” or “You’re a girl”, just as he tells them “You’re straight”.

Still, that’s just my opinion, and it’s entirely possible that I’m in the wrong. I’m interested to see how the poll will turn out.
