This is only worse than death if you don’t handle it properly, and by ā€œproperlyā€ I mean ā€œman every cannon, fire at will, sink herā€

Death would never, Damian / Lilith on the other hand…

Why did they run in a straight line???

For the same reason that, e.g., the xenobiologist decides to approach a completely unknown lifeform clearly performing a threat display: because the movie is an unsalvageably 115% bad disaster and everyone involved in making that script needs to be hit with a crowbar.

I thought that was what preceeded them writing that script…

Greetings, esteemed patrons of TBOTA!

Quick update time! I’m diving back into the game’s chapters this week, giving them some of the 'ol polish - tightening the lore, adding more choices, and fixing bugs and typos.

If you’ve got thoughts or feedback, now’s the perfect moment to throw them my way. I’d really appreciate it!

But more importantly, here’s what I’m planning for the road ahead

By the end of March, The next part of Chapter 4 (ā€œThe Childā€) will drop! Prepare for a busy shift at the bar with a new face joining the crew. There’s more coming, but I’ll spill those beans as we get closer to dropping the update.

You’ll also kick off the official romance routes with Hastur, Peisinoe, and He Without Name. Not to mention more lovey-dovey encounters with Death, Lilith/Damian, and Morgan/a.

First part of April: The last part of Chapter 4 will take you to a shopping spree in Hell. You’ll be joined by Yaga and the Raven and bumping into Lilith/Damian as well. Expect some… hiccups along the way.

Second part of April: Chapter 5 will drop! There’s been a murder right inside the bar - time for some detective work! It might just be someone you’re close to, maybe even someone you’ve been romancing. :eyes:

That’s all for now  Your feedback and thoughts mean the world to me, and they really help make the game better.

So don’t be shy—let me know what you think!

SMALL UPDATE

Happy to announce I’m currently done revamping the game and working to release the next part of Chapter 4 NEXT WEEK!

For the upcoming update, you must start a new save file, as I’ve added several new variables and plot flags to the game.

You can start your new playthrough today, as the update is live and ready to play!

The good news is that the game now has more choices, all made based on readers’ feedback. Thank you for your help!

See you in the Abyss

Really interesting, I like all the world building. One question, is romance going to be one of the focal points of the story?

Thank you! Interacting with characters and building relationships is a core element of the game, with romance being just one of the ways to approach them.

So, while the game does feature romance paths that shape the story, they are not mandatory. You can do friendship paths with all the characters without missing anything - just different ways of experiencing the story

Thanks for the response, looking forward to seeing where these romance paths might lead. I get the feeling the devil’s will have angst and confusion :eyes:

Hello Patrons!

Just dropping to let you know that the upcoming TBOTA update will be delayed until next week due to some hiccups :sleepy:

BUT the good news is that this upcoming update will include tons of variables and options—and also milkshakes!

Remember that you will have to start a fresh save for that chapter, so now you have more time to do so!

Update soon

Hi everyone! Sorry for disappearing, had a long flu. Update will drop this week!

In the meantime, take a look at the summary post. The character dossiers have been updated with unique artwork, and each character now has a dedicated page on Tumblr!

Patrons of TBOTA, the update is now officially live!!!

A new night shift has begun at your bar—one that will change everything.

  • Meet Cassy - A young demigod has taken refuge in your bar, bringing big revelations. Drink milkshakes with her and uncover secrets!
  • Peisinoe is in a bind, and the stage calls for an unexpected hero—will it be you? Perform live on stage (or simply ask the Raven to read poetry) and save the day!
  • Helped a certain celestial couple solve their marital quarrel? Meet them at the bar and discover more about them!
  • Navigate through a night of challenges: impress a nightlife journalist, diffuse a potential brawl, and maybe play Cupid for Shelly.
  • Start your romance paths with Hastur and Peisinoe.
  • And FINALLY: Face the Raven, get your answers - but beware, you might not like what he has to say.

UGH, I’m beyond thrilled to release this update and can’t wait to hear what you think!

Remember: Your feedback on the update is invaluable to me. Everything is valid, from your love to your critique. I can handle both!

I remember only briefly trying this once back in the day, didn’t get too far. Decided I’ll give it another whirl, although I’m always a little iffy on stories that make me type a name instead of pick one (I’m lazy and have a limited list of names I run through!).

Was certainly worth it though. Not a lot of stories around here can let you do as many hook-ups without being locked out or bopped over the head or such! Was fun getting to play that and learn more about Death, Lilith and Morgana.

And that ending for the moment! In hindsight, something I should’ve suspected, but such is the way of the mind sometimes. Curious to see where this will go…

There’s some occasional little bugs here and there, mainly I note whenever it brings up ā€œMiss.ā€ it’s always as spelt there - so I end up with things like Miss. Reina. Which does certainly change the flow of the wording. Still, a minor thing. Also at the end I could see the option for something I didn’t unlock, which has now made me curious as to how to get it…

It’s a good thing there’s saves, so I can go back and explore it some more. I can see why in the framing we only get a few, but after the rest of the story lets me explore every dialogue option, got a little taken off guard. But that’s just a nitpick.

Thanks for the feedback on the names. I’ll add more options, so we don’t miss any wonderful readers haha!

Regarding romantic interests, in the afterlife ā€œuntil death do us partā€ is not applicable anymore lol.

I’m curious what the responses will be about Death, they are the most popular LI after all lol.

And thank you for the big report! Will be fixed. Also I won’t mind increasing the save slots, all up for lettings readers try different answers

Thank you for reading!

I’ve given this game another playthrough, and I’m really impressed with the new update. Great job!

During my playthrough, I noticed a few stylistic things and minor grammar/pronoun errors. For example, in Chapter 1, there are a few occasions where one continuous dialogue is separated into multiple paragraphs.

An example

ā€œOh, really? That was easy! I mean… I’m glad to hear,ā€ Death answer, her voice a soft rumble.

"Although… managing the bar will be no small feat.

It would be beneficial to know if you have any… mortal skills that might aid you in this endeavor. Every bit of expertise counts in this peculiar business."

Could be:

ā€œOh, really? That was easy! I mean… I’m glad to hear,ā€ Death answer, her voice a soft rumble. ā€œAlthough… managing the bar will be no small feat. It would be beneficial to know if you have any… mortal skills that might aid you in this endeavor. Every bit of expertise counts in this peculiar business.ā€

Although the prologue and Chapter 2 onward are much more polished, I think fixing these issues in the first chapter would enhance the experience for new players. Let me know if you’d like me to list the instances I found.

Now, onto the story itself:

I’m not the best at writing reviews, but I’ll give it a shot!

Usually, a great/unique premise is what gets me interested in reading a game, and yours definitely has that. Throughout the game, I felt engaged, and the characters are exceptionally well-developed. Raven’s interactions and occasional quips made me chuckle a few times. God, I love that creature (He without a name was funny, too, in its own way)! The ROs are great, too—I decided to beeline Death’s route after the first convo with her(/them). I also really appreciate the customization options in the game, like the theme/look of the bar. Giving us these options (no matter how small) adds much more to the overall experience than it would first seem.

The writing is great and immersive. You draw clear pictures with your words. I would say the pacing is just right, and there’s just enough description to keep me interested without becoming tedious to read.

Overall, I feel like your game has a lot of potential. It drew me in with its premise and kept me turning the pages from the first chapter.

I’m looking forward to the next update. Keep up the fantastic work!

Thank you for reading!

After finishing Chapter 4 I’m going to go back and rewrite a lot of stuff, a lot of my notes are in chapter one as well.

You are really good with reviews  Your feedback and bug reports are super helpful!
