Team Zero (WIP)

@FairyGodfeather

My character will be trying to save him lol

Well it’s still too early to tell. I mean for all we know a shadowy conspiracy kidnapped Alex and faked his death and it’ll be up to the PC to get to band back together to go save him.

That’s in genre for both superheroics and covert action, let’s face it.

@stsword

yeah that very true.

This seems very interesting. I would pay to play a game like this. Team management is quite a bit of fun.

I would definitely pay for this. Being a normal person leading a bunch of super powered kids. Makes me think of that guy in the incredibles who bails them out when the dad punches his boss through a wall

This is great. Superheroes mixed with The Big Chill, with a protagonist who can actively hate everyone else around without ruining the plot. I’d say this is the beginning of something fantastic. Bonus points for making me cry. You jerk.

I selected sniper and had a thought, I’m like Hawkeye in the Avengers only I’ll have a sniper rifle

I would assume that you would have some awesome baddass fighting skills when you choose advanced cqc

@FairyGodFeather I like snark and the “Slap Slap Kiss” trope way too much to have it actively tank your relationship. A few of the characters actually prefer it if you’re more sarcastic/confrontational.

@Airtamis I’m glad Alex seems to be well-received. Writing Alex was a bit tricky at first because he needed to be the sort of person everyone on the team would really like, without coming off as a Sue or “everyone likes him because the author says so.” All of the other characters can just be who they are, but with Alex, I think the story works a lot better if the player actually likes him. Overall, I’m pretty happy with the way he turned out.

@Chriswa27 Yup, I think I’m doing Sarah’s next. Her recruitment mission is set at a gala in Paris, and all the Pokemon X I’ve been playing lately has put me in a French state of mind.

@Nocturnal_Stillness It’s really exciting for me to see people actually reacting emotionally to Alex. I think it means that I’m doing my job :slight_smile:

@stsword Fun fact: in my very original outline Alex explicitly committed suicide. I ended up changing that, as well as a bunch of other stuff, as the plot started to come together, so now you’ll just have to wait and see to find out what actually happened (or didn’t happen) to Alex.

@Wire Yay! I was going for shades of adorkable with Alex, so I’m glad it seems like I hit the mark.

@R3dSt1ng Team management is definitely going to be a big part of the game once you actually have your team assembled.

@God_of_Demonz Exactly, Badass Normals rule :slight_smile:

@SpaceLesbian It was really important to me to make sure the PC could not like/be a jerk to all of the NPCs, even if writing some of the meaner options made me feel like I was kicking a puppy. Also, the Big Chill was a huge influence, hence the shout-outs.

@P0RT3R Very much so.

I do find it frustrating when I pick choices that I think are just some friendly banter only to have NPCs respond with “I HATE YOU LET US NEVER SPEAK AGAIN!!!” So I was delighted that every time I picked the choice that was fun, they didn’t get annoyed and just responded in kind. They actually understood my sarcasm. I just really liked that.

So we’ll be kissing our team mates then?

Its great when readers react to your characters in a way you want. But it’s fun when they react in a way you don’t expect case on point the Victor fan girls who read/play Unnatural he was written as a nasty piece of work a character to hate, but some female readers requested romance lol

@FairyGodFeather Snarky banter is entirely too much fun to write to not include it. While I wasn’t a huge fan of Doc’s romance in The Old Repbulic, one of the things I really did like about it was that it included flirt options that were basically nothing but insulting him.

There will be plenty of kissing, should the player choose to go down that path, and some of the romances will play out differently depending on whether you went down a more traditional path or the belligerent sexual tension route. Also, if you think the Alex situation is a bit depressing now, just try playing his romance path :slight_smile:

@Nocturnal_Stillness As someone who has a soft spot for (fictional) bad boys, that does not surprise me in the least.

No. Definitely no. I will not romance Alex knowing that he’s doomed to die. I couldn’t cope with it. It’d be horrible.

Ach why would you say that option!!! Now I have to go down the doomed romance Alex path… curiosity definitely premeditated the killing of my cat.

For demo experts, what sort of role will we play in combat? Grenade launchers?Will combat be in urban areas mostly or more rural terrorist hideouts.

@FairyGodFeather I don’t know if I’d say horrible. I prefer the term “bittersweet.”

@Scrivener I actually rather like Alex’s romance path. It’s pretty sweet, until, you know, stuff happens :slight_smile:

@God_of_Demonz Combat will occur in both urban and rural areas, as well as some other more “interesting” locations. Your specialization isn’t going to radically change the gameplay, but it will unlock unique scenes or ways of handling challenges. For example, someone with advanced close quarters combat would have an option for a nonlethal takedown that other characters wouldn’t have, someone with demo training would be able to get rid of reinforcements, or someone with surreptitious entry would be able to access a room with beneficial information that others players wouldn’t get.

I would probably play Alex romance path once out of curiosity but I’m not sure if I can handle the bittersweetness of his story. Besides for now I see him as more as a best friend or brother :slight_smile:

…and sniper watches team from afar like a hawk. With bullets instead of talons

I can see advanced driving. Like knowing how to use a wide variety of vehicles ranging from speed boats to helicopters, or being that guy who comes crashing through a wall in an armored car and saves all the powereds. Please add a scene like that. I would definitely pay just for the chance to do that

Question, will we only learn HOW Alex died near the endgame? It’s eating me alive.

Also, does the special op where we took down a meta human in 150% badassery mode count for anything or is it just there? For the, you did what you had to do to stop an Al Qaeda member with a possession ability. My guess is that this will be elaborated to the team mid gameish where you talk about just WHAT you did?

Will Sarah try to pickpocket us? If so, I’d like to catch her in the act. Like having a nice talk with her, then asking for your wallet back.
