Well i was only being half serious, although I imagine some people would much rather find out Alex isn’t dead after all, I’m not one of them, it doesn’t really matter to me one way or another.
But since faked deaths are a valid trope in both the superhero and spy drama genres, it’s not like it would be inappropriate in a genre mash like this.
I think this conversation is one of my favorite things ever.
@idonotlikeusernames That’s very true. Honestly, if Alex wanted to get the team back together, he really could have just asked them nicely.
@FairyGodfeather Going back in time to constantly watch Alex die would be the most depressing thing ever. :((
@stsword Faked deaths are a very common trope in this genre, but I think the only way I’d be interested in doing something like that would be if I could come up with a unique/creative way of handling it.
The fact that comic book writing tends to fall apart and become increasingly inconsistent over the longer term probably has a lot to do with why very few fans stick around for more than a few years. And you’re not going to be as concerned for the characters once you’ve seen that deaths aren’t final, and they can be brought back to life at any time.
"No! I don’t think Damon was masterminding things. He seemed genuinely upset by Alex’s loss. "
@FairyGodfeather, I’m inclined to agree with you, but Damon does strike me as being a very good actor when he needs to be. That’s in fact one of the reasons I like Damon so much, gradually peeling away all the layers to get to the “real” Damon underneath might be the biggest challenge in the game.
@tigras I absolutely agree: Alex dying is part of what makes this game. If he comes back it has to be in such a way that the tragedy of it is not lost. The biggest issue I find for the MC is the Alex romance is obviously doomed to end, and for that matter, the way everyone loses touch implies that any romance fails. At least temporarily. It makes for delicious drama of course. Given all the effort put into recruitment, I wonder how involved this terrorist mission is going to be. Clearly the respect levels and character development are key to success, so the enemy is going to have to be very engaging.
@P_Tigras I totally agree with you. That’s why I don’t really read ongoing comics. The good thing about this game is that its a complete, self-contained story with a definitive endpoint, so hopefully I won’t have any of those problems
@P0RT3R I can pretty much guarantee that there are no evil clones in my game.
@idonotlikeusernames Damon is an excellent actor. He’s a disciple of the Elim Garak school of obfuscation. “Never tell the truth when a lie will do.” Of course, this makes the few moments where you can actually get him to be genuine with you a lot sweeter.
@R3dSt1ng The course of true love never did run smooth.
As for how involved the terrorist mission is, I think it gets more involved by the day. I remember when I first started working on this, I thought it was going to be such a short game, but it just keeps ballooning (in a good way). I think the Big Bad is pretty interesting though, and I’m really looking forward to writing the first mission where you tangle with one of his guys. It’s what I’ll probably work on after I finish the recruitment missions.
Garak’s one of my favourite characters. No wonder Damon’s my favourite. I did want to hope that momentary glimpse behind the mask was genuine.
I do prefer self-contained stories to ones that go on and on. I gave up on comics a decade back, although I am still fond of some of the themes in the superhero genre.
Excuse me I know you don’t know me , but I just wanted to say I absolutely love the demo . I am one of the older accounts that hasn’t been active in months due to the blocks on my school’s WiFi and with me living in the stone age. I have played the demo many times and have loved the fresh material you have brought to the fourms, I like playing games that have lots of character interactions and still have what I hope will be a strategic system for the mc skills. I finally got on and decided that this was might be my only chance in telling you this so I went straight here and ignored the 1200 messages I have . Hope you continue this, sincerely
R D:
@FairyGodfeather Garak is super awesome. I think 90% of my favorite DS9 episodes are Garak episodes. I also totally agree with you about self-contained stories. I like endings.
@Natsu_Dragneel I would be so mean if I included an ending like that, although it would be kind of funny if there was some secret super happy ending easter egg that you could only get by playing the game 100 times or something equally ridiculous.
@P0RT3R If I include clones, I think I shall only include morally ambiguous clones
@Roslyn_samalt06 Thank you so much for all your kind words! The character interactions are my favorite thing to write, so I can guarantee there will be a lot more throughout the game. Also, I really appreciate you taking the time to leave me a message, not having internet is the worst!
DS9’s my favourite Star Trek. Garak’s my favourite character. And my favourite episode is the one with Garak in it, In the Pale Moonlight. Although I did enjoy his interactions with Bashir as well. Heh sorry, I’ll stop derailing.
@Dolphinzgirl will Lamar Kasdan be playing a role because you know i find it a little strange how you make all of these characters with names and they “drop” off the map for a few years…
@FairyGodfeather In the Pale Moonlight is my favorite episode of Star Trek period. On the Bashir front, I really love Our Man Bashir. They were the first two episodes of DS9 I ever watched.
@BloodDemon If Lamar appears again, it would only be in his capacity as a chauffeur. I wouldn’t read too much into which characters have names and which don’t. I have names and backgrounds for pretty much every character that’s appeared in the game, even if none of it is actually mentioned. It’s just something that helps me write. For some of the minor named characters, it is a legitimate Chekhov’s gunman situation, and with some of the others it’s just incidental or world building.
