darkstar2101 making the world laugh since 1998
I like Owen, as a character in a fictional story I would not have to personally handle XP
He looks like a handful, but it’s good to have someone that is a challenge, keeps the group dynamics interesting.
I get this terrible feeling I’ll compromise my grand and noble ideals to keep him and John happy, haha. “Now, we’re gonna be be very careful, no unnecessary dea- oh, alright, go out to play”.
Oh well, I wasn’t too attached to those ideals anyway!
Oh we can see in the recruitment mission then. If he doesn’t knock it off I might be inclined to offer a nickname of my own in return. Something silly and ridiculous. Cupcake perhaps.
I like Damon and Alex better than John and Owen. Of course I’ve not seen too much of the latter two and am looking forward to getting to know them a bit better. Actually getting to know everyone a bit better.
I’m glad the Carbone situation will come up again. My own inclination is to try and deal with it from within the law, with perhaps a bit of help from the others. Murder is a last resort.

@darkstar2101 Laughter is always very much appreciated.
@Jackrabbit After reading your post I have this wonderful mental image of the MC as an exhausted parent trying to wrangle a couple of hyperactive toddlers. Little kid Owen/John would be pretty adorable though.
@Fairygodfeather I will definitely offer the PC the chance to give Owen a taste of his own medicine on occasion.
As long as I have the chance to call him the silliest names ever. Although I suppose that’s hardly fitting of my esteemed position.
I am looking forward to his recruitment mission. And rolling my eyes at Damon and saying “why did you want me to recruit this guy? It’s your fault. All your fault Captain Corporate America.”
lol that’s right, Damon made you recruit him, he’ll have to put up with his nickname. See, we’re dispensing justice already!
@Dolphinzgirl I now fully expect scenes of Owen and John being petulant and driving the MC mad. Exasperation is just another side of love.
@FairyGodfeather I’ll start brainstorming silly names right now
Something tells me Damon would take that nickname as a bit of a compliment, it isn’t entirely inaccurate, after all.
@Jackrabbit I could see Owen pulling a petulant “you never let me have any fun.” I think John’s more the type to go brood in his room and refuse to come out.
Also, I just updated the game with a menu that let’s you skip straight to the recruitment missions. It should work, but let me know if you have any problems.
Also also, I had a quick stylistic question for everyone. Do you think it makes more sense to grey out the options to bring someone you haven’t recruited with you or to not show them at all? Having the options greyed out is more transparent, but I worry that it would be immersion breaking or make people feel like they needed to play the missions in a certain order.
I say grey out :-bd
I prefer not seeing the option there if I can’t take it. I always feel pressured to do everything possible to have every option available whenever I see greyed out choices so I end up restarting or only playing a certain way on replays. It feels more immersive to me to not know what options you’ve missed out on until you replay making different choices.
If there is no set order for you to play in, then I would leave all options open for who tags along. There are no set dates or anything, so I don’t see why not, but no matter how you do it I won’t mind because this game is AMAZING!
Whenever I play this I don’t try to RO anyone. I see myself as a father/mentor to the team and I would like a chance to have a teammate share something that’s bothering them privately with me and I give them advice
I quite like this WIP. It has a lot of potential, so I’d like to see where it goes.
Also, I just ran through the game again and I received the option that said “I haven’t been a Lieutenant Commander in a long time” when meeting Sarah after telling the chauffeur that I was a military lifer. This makes zero sense so I assume that it’s a bug. Is it?
Since these are RP choice, I think they only add flavor - meaning it’s up to you to keep them consistent, not the game. If it bugs you, pretend your PC is lying, because why the heck not.
@Chriswa27 and @Eriedanna I think I lean toward hiding the option pretty much for the reasons @Eriedanna stated. Immersion is really important for me when I play games, and I always feel like I’ve done something wrong if I see an option greyed out. Hiding options would probably make replaying more interesting, too. Still, I could certainly be convinced to go in a different direction.
@Dark_Bear2899 I like the idea of that, but the problem with that is there are some places where it wouldn’t make sense. For example, if Owen is with you the first time you meet John, and John is with you the first time you meet Owen, you might cause some sort of temporal paradox.
@God_of_Demonz There are plenty of options where you can talk to teammates about important issues, give them advice (although they might not take it), and steer their character development a bit. At the same time though, I’m not a big fan of the “PC is everyone’s therapist” trope, so I plan to stay away from it. I mean, I loved Mass Effect 2, but I swear 90% of that game was sorting out people’s daddy issues.
@Perfect_Storm and @Jackrabbit Right now, those choices are just in there mostly for flavor and as seeds in case I decide I want to do something with those choices later. I’m currently going back and forth between just giving the player a bunch of options every time they talk about what they’re up to currently and it’s up to the player whether they are lying or telling the truth (especially because I think think there are circumstances where the MC might want to lie) and creating a lock-in decision somewhere.
I was actually going to argue in favour of just leaving them greyed out. That way you know who you can take with you on each mission, and there won’t be endless replaying only to be disappointed that your favourite character can’t come along. It’ll also make it easier to work out the optimum order to recruit people so you have your favourite characters with you.
@FairyGodfeather You make some good points. I’ll keep thinking about it, and I’ll figure something out eventually
Update News
So today is Tuesday, and we have the promised update. John’s entire recruitment mission is now up, including Alex’s path and the solo path. Once again feedback is always appreciated, and I hope y’all enjoy.

Firstly, I’d like to say that this is the game I am most excited to see finished out of all the works in progress to date. I especially like the romance between the character and Damon black, but appreciate that all romance paths are possible. I did note a small error in the coding on your latest update. When you play the John Clark mission alone if you chose the option to take care of Cardone yourself the next page defaults to:
"When the two of you are finally alone again, Owen turns to you with a smirk on his face. “I’ll say this for John, he certainly doesn’t believe in half measures.” You think you detect what might be a hint of admiration in his voice. ’
Considering Owen was not on this mission I assume this to be an error. I hope that this helps
I enjoyed that recruitment mission far more with Alex along. Oh poor Alex, why do you have to die? Death take John instead! Or Owen!
My goodness yes. Alex is alot of fun. So is Sarah truth be told. I like the whole dark superman aspect that John has, but in the end Damon is my favorite character.
