Good job still.
Dragon ball Z much?
@darkstar2101 and @God_of_Demonz Thanks
And that totally made me giggle.
@Storm Yes, but not specifically. Sarah is my version of the classy cat burglar trope in general. It’s such a common comic book trope I knew I wanted to include it and put my spin on it.
…then the bullets started flying and Sara began yelling, “holyshitholyshitholyshitholyshit. I’mgoingtodiei’mgoingtodiei’mgoingtodie” will there be a moment like that where she just panics?
@God_of_Demonz Sarah certainly has some “wow, things just got real moments,” but never anything that I would call a panic moment. Initially, she views the whole thing as a bit of a game, so it doesn’t really sink in to her that she could actually, you know, get hurt. By the time she actually realizes that, she’s got some experience under her belt and is a lot more invested. Plus, Sarah is perfectly aware of her limits. She’s not going to let you put her into situations she can’t handle.
Guess she didn’t read the military contract of disobey orders and you get court martialed. Though it would be hard to attack he family with their bottomless wallets. Will there be a point in the game where we or someone on the team gets a court martial?
@God_of_Demonz The MC is the only person on the team who is actually in the military, so they’re the only one who could be court martialed. I doubt any discipline the MC received in connection to their activities on the team (assuming they did something to deserve discipline, of course) would be that public, though
Update News
Thanks to the very boring pro bono debriefing I had to sit through today, I was able to get some more of the game coded, so we have a little update today. The entirety of John’s recruitment mission if you bring Owen is now up. Hopefully the paths where you go solo or bring Alex will be done and up by Tuesday. As always, let me know what y’all think, and any feedback is very much appreciated.

Any chance of a skip to the recruiting missions, since I’ve played through the first section a few times now and I’d really love to just start at the new content?
I still don’t like Owen, with his annoying nicknames, but it’s the sort of dislike that’s fun to play. I would like to keep reminding him to use my name and/or title. I’m never that fond of the mercenary archetype, and the sort of characters he reminds me of.
I’m not sure about John yet either. Is there any way that we can get Damon to pull some strings, throw his money around in such a way that ensures the guy John was going after, actually gets time for what he’s done. Is there a way to ensure he’s punished, by the authorities, without killing him? Since I didn’t want to kill him, I did want to see that justice was served.
@FairyGodfeather the law wont always get it right. How many people have gotten away with terrible crimes? How many innocent people have gone on death row or lost years of their life to prison for being in the wrong place at the wrong time? Who’s to say the drug lord wouldn’t have hired an army of lawyers?
If you are having trouble with connecting the intro to the story, what about talking to a person triggers their recruitment mission?
Also, we saved the goddamn world and we’re a lowly CAPTAIN?!? I should be a colonel! Or a General! While it’s better than say, private, after saving the ENTIRE PLANET you would think I would be a lot higher in life now
@God_Of_Demonz If it’s a case of the law won’t always get it right, sometimes you need to step outside of it, I’d like a little more emphasis on that. I’d like a little more frustration that John was right, that the criminal did get out of jail the next day and there was nothing we could do, and he did kill someone else. I’d like a bit more made of such a tough moral decision of whether to take the law into our own hands in regards to this situation, and the difference between the right thing to do and the lawful one, and sometimes there’s no perfect solutions. However I’d have at least liked to have tried to work within the law, before becoming disillusioned by it.
I was just wanting a super-quick menu after you pick your name and gender to jump to the recruitment missions.
I think I like Owen. I also think he’d stab me in the back for the right payment, but it makes sense considering his job and overall worldview, and I think he has a lot of potential for character development in the future. I also support letting you tell Owen to knock it off with the nicknames. I personally like them, and I don’t know if he would actually listen to anyone’s objections, but I think it’d be a good option to include.
I’m not sure how I feel about John. He seems pretty intense, but considering he was probably running on adrenaline and blood lust when you first meet him, he could be a lot different once he’s calmed down. I’m withholding judgement until we can interact with him a bit more.
@God_of_Demonz
He’s Navy. Their Captain is the equivalent of Colonel in the Army. Also, Colonel is the highest field rank there is. So he gets to be badass in the field instead of badass at his desk (if he were a flag officer or general). He’s like the Commander Shepard (which probably is one of the inspirations. Is’t? @Dolphinzgirl )
Besides, Master Chief saved the universe but he’s still a Master Chief Petty Officer (or sergeant). Geek–>Me. I’m using video games to clarify my points about military rank.
the military, the worlds police officers (except more bad ass)
How did you guys do john’s and owen’s missions? the game ends for me when I try.
You can’t do Owen’s yet. John’s should work, though you have to take Owen, I think.
@FairyGodFeather I’ll try to add a skip feature. I actually tried to add one a while back, but I kept getting all these errors, so I just gave up on it. I’ll monkey around with it while I watch tv tonight though, and see if I can get it to work.
The reason I didn’t include an option to tell Owen to knock it off with the nicknames was because it comes up during his recruitment mission, and I thought it might feel redundant. Is it an option you want to recur, and if so, how often do you think it should come up again?
The whole Carbone situation and how you decided to handle it will come up again in the future (and that’s all I can say about that
) . One of the things I find really interesting about the modern superhero genre is the really wide range of morality, alignment, and viewpoints you see in different characters, and while I wouldn’t call it a theme of the game, it is certainly something that I want to explore a bit. There are going to be moral decisions in the game and there are going to be plenty of opportunities to talk to all of the characters about how they see the world/their own moral codes. Depending on your relationship with them, you’ll even be able to push certain characters in one direction or the other.
@God_of_Demonz That is unfortunately very true sometimes.
@Eriedanna I’m glad you like Owen, and you’re right about his potential for character development. As it stands right now, he’s the character with the most present day permutations depending on his experiences with the MC.
John is a bit of an intense person in general, but he has plenty of reasons why he is the way he is. He was designed to be a bit more of a darker “good guy” to balance out Alex and Kat. You’ll get the chance to find out a lot more about him if you take him with you to Moscow and during the base section at the end of this chunk of the game.
@Dusk777 Commander Shepard was certainly an inspiration. Also, you’re exactly right in terms of the rank. It generally takes 21+ years to make Captain, so the MC is actually a bit ahead of the curve.
@darkstar2101 That made me giggle. I also have all of the songs from Team America: World Police running through my head now.
@Bloodhawkereaper @Othergrimm is correct. John’s mission is up, Owen’s isn’t. Let me know if you have any more problems, and I’ll see if I need to go in and fix anything.
