Starways Saga (WIP) ~150k words

I was hoping we could help leana? Or what ever her name was get use to the navy training

I had hoped to make her a sympathetic character. But ultimately you can’t help people that won’t help themselves. Maybe a little harsh and unsatisfying, but realistic, especially in such a tough environment.

Hope everybody had a good labor day weekend! I had a relaxing weekend and watched a lot of college football. Now it’s back to work and back to writing. I’m gonna get started on the next part of the Navy path. I’ll shoot again for the end of the month to post an update of around the same length, somewhere around 15k words. Each path will probably be around 100k, so I’ve still got a long way to go to complete this path. I’m always eager to hear feedback and discussion about what I have so far, the good, the bad, the everything.

I’m posting a link here to the spotify playlist I listen to as I work on this project, if anyone’s interested. It’s a pretty eclectic mix of space/ celestial themed songs along with random ones that fit the narratives and themes. I never claimed to be a DJ.
Here it is if you’re interested: https://open.spotify.com/playlist/4TDTDzQBbdxFVNUmQeup7T?si=49d00065d27a419b

For the navy path, are we going be able to choose to be an pilot, crew an ship, or join the marines? (one of the trainers on the ship was apart of the marines so I’m guessing that’s an option)

Yes, so after basic training you’ll progress to officer training. At officer training you’ll learn about the three roles you can chose from and then choose your role. The roles being: marine, deck officer and fighter pilot. Marines are the main ground force of the navy. Deck officers serve in a command position on the massive interstellar battleships. Fighter pilots serve in dogfights, as air support and as picketers, operating in space and in planetary orbit.

Cool, apart from Star Trek, the big ships often get too little love in a lot of (space opera and interstellar) scifi, imho. Most hero ships tend to be on the smaller side for a variety of reasons I understand but spending time with the big boys would be rather nice, imho.

Also looking forward to the corpo path though as I understand it is going to let us see the luxury and elite side of this setting and hopefully let the mc develop some style and fashion sense while they’re at it being a futuristic corpo samurai.

So when we finish officer academy, will the motley group we formed during the time in the ship have the troupe of if one person goes down this path we will follow them or will they all go their own separate ways and we would find scenes were the gang gets reunited and see how each other been in their own roles

Yeah, most of the star pilot, space adventuring is done in small ships. But you’ll get to spend some time on some big ones in the Navy Path as well as the Colony ship path. Colony ships are about as big as they come.

The ship builder path will definitely give you a taste of luxury. Life on Earth can be pretty decadent, especially amongst those you’ll be brushing shoulders with. Glad to see you’re excited for what’s to come!

Once you graduate from officer training the motley group will separate, taking on different roles and getting placements. You’ll miss each other but everyone must forge their own path. You’ll continue on with your friend that chose the same path and meet a new group. You will have the option to stay in touch with people and may meet up with them in the future. Over the course of the story a lot of people will come and go in your life. I can’t promise people will always reappear, but you will be given an option to stay in touch with them. And in the distant future when you’re ready to hang them up you’ll be given the chance to rekindle a past flame to have a happily ever after with.

Nice! How much do you envision character crossover happening between the paths, say meeting some of the navy crew as a corpo, or vice versa, for example?

Hope it won’t be too small or too shabby…maybe on the corpo path mc can end up with something comparable to this (only thing that ship lacks, imho is a guest quarters, a two person bed in the captain’s quarters and at least two more toilets/bathrooms I’d put additional ones integrated en-suite into the captain and guest quarters if I were a ship designer, which on the corpo path I suppose the mc technically will be even though it seems like they will be utilized more as a corporate samurai in practice. But like I said, in addition to the navy path (who doesn’t like a dashing officer in uniform?) corpo is that path I am personally most looking forward too.

On the navy path maybe the mc can rescue and refit a small-ish former alliance ship from mothball storage or something?

I don’t imagine there will be much crossover. It’s a big galaxy and the paths are pretty contained. But easter eggs are always fun. Maybe at some point you will run into a character you recognize from another life. I have nothing planned of that nature, but it’s something to definitely consider.

In terms of ships, when you buy your first ship it will likely be small and shabby because you’re just starting out and have a long way to go. But there will be opportunities for upgrades. Fair warning and buyers beware, the coolest appearing and/or the most expensive options may not be best options.

Another question for the navy path, could we be able to join a special forces units with in maybe the marines or pilot path? (I say pilot because maybe the alliance navy have a special units of pilots who fly high speed super stealth star fighters for recon or or transporting/providing air support for the marine special forces)

Ohhh I like battleship, can’t wait for more.

Sorry no I don’t have any plans for this. Each branching path has unique characters and environments, I can’t be stretched too thin adding too many. Rest assured special forces or not, I will do my best to make you feel like a badass.

I was having fun playing a character that didnt want an RO and then you just end up kissing vince wtf is up with that? Is it a bug or are you just forced to do that?

I haven’t heard about anyone having this problem. Sorry about that. It’s definitely not supposed to happen. Is it possible for you to send me a screenshot of this?

Sure, i dont have the original save so it’ll take me a bit, so for now i’ll just tell you that its after the pirate fight and i chose to not be interested in any of the crew.

This was fun reminds me of Star Trek.

I think I found the problem and fixed it. Thanks for pointing that out! Let me know if you encounter any more issues.

Is this where it ends? It keeps loading so I am not sure if there’s a problem on my end
