Stardom in Seoul: Live the life of a Korean idol!

Out of curiosity, is this still a thing? I would be rather interested if so. This topic was about to close so I thought I’d ask.

Probably not, seeing as @Sleepy has not been active for almost 3 months…

Yes, this sounds interesting!! I’ve been trying to get my friends to play CoG novels, and if you make this, it might just be the key to winning them over :star_struck::laughing: I’ll be sure to tell them about it if you do!

I’m not dead guys. I’m still working on this. It takes a lot of work to write a ChoiceScript game. Right now, I’m writing some of the romance scenes.

Same!

@Sleepy Is there a possibility of a demo or are you planning on releasing the whole game at once? (No rush, I’m just curious on your game plan!)

It’s a little late, but on the topic of LGBT idols, I don’t think it’d be too out there to include those. It’s not all smooth sailing to be sure, but there have recently been some very prominent celebrities in that community, and a lot of support of it from non-LGBT idols as well. Holland, in fact, just started his career as South Korea’s first openly gay idol, but there have been others (comedians and the like) who have come out and are doing moderately well for themselves (these days anyway). One of them even cameo’d in the Netflix show Sense8 lol. There’s also a girl group with an openly trans member, though the group name escapes me right now.

@Sleepy
Anyway, i’m not trying to be super pushy or start beef through my comments and i’m sorry if my previous comments came out that way. But since this WIP revolves so much around my culture, I just really want it to be done in a way that doesn’t degrade us as a people or a country and stays away from stereotypes that others may see as being “good” but in reality, aren’t.
I’m not saying you would do that, of course, but i’m just overtly cautious about these things by default because, in the past, people have absolutely. I like the idea of this. I really do, but i’m just nervous about it is all.

Hey guys! This project is definitely not dead, I’ve just been chugging along silently.

There have been a lot of changes since the last post, but I will try to mention the important ones:

5 ROs: I’ve added 2 additional ROs. Totally, there are 2 Female RO, 2 Male RO, 1 gender customizable RO. I actually don’t have any full profiles for any characters, just a bunch of bullet points about their personality and backstory. I’ll be making those when I have some downtime.

Always start in an idol group: In the beginning of the story, you will have to start by joining a group. Later, you’ll have the option to go solo or continue with your group.

Age is set to 21. This is for a number of reasons, both plot and otherwise. You’ll find out very early in the story how this plays a role.

Story branches based on character chosen: You have to follow the path of one of the ROs. However, the relationship between you and the RO can be either romantic or platonic, rivalry or friendship. All other characters will be present in the story but cannot be romanced in that particular route. No poly options.

Possible explicit sexual content: I’m debating on whether to add explicit sexual content to the game. Maybe release two versions of the game, one all-ages and one 18+.

Not a fully accurate depiction of the K-Pop industry: In the beginning, I did my best to make the story fully accurate to the current K-Pop industry. However, I found that very difficult. It’s because the K-Pop industry is constantly changing. What might’ve been the state of the industry when I write the book may be completely obsolete by release. So, I’ve taken some liberties in the story.

Since this was a really text-heavy post, here’s a picture of a possible Male MC I commissioned from RaitVisualWorks!

Glad to hear you are making progress. Stardom fiction on jjwxc is one of my guilty pleasures, I will definitely buy. All the best!

Yeah! I don’t think I’ve read any HG/CoG that’s set in 21st century Earth w/o any fantasy/supernatural elements. I hope this one fills a void!

You caught my interest the moment I read the title. I like kpop and this one would be the hell of a game! Good luck with your game! :slightly_smiling_face:

Glad to see this project lives. We need a good stardom /rockstar/movie star/ or in this case K-pop game.

As for the style of the male mc, I always like leather on cute guys and a lot of those K-pop boys (or their managers, likely a mix of both) fortunately seem to agree.

What about the background of the mc? I know in most of Asia what family you come tends to influence things even more than around here and of course this being Korean there’s an additional background option of having your parents be defectors from the North (though if the mc is an idol they likely managed to flee when the mc was a baby to avoid stunted growth, as male idols, even in Asia tend to be taller than average).

Of course beyond this my knowledge of the modern scene is scant as I haven’t kept up with the Asian entertainment scene since the 00’s (when I used to have a huge crush on that Gackt kid, though he was J-pop, not K-pop).

Is there a link/working demo to this game? I briefly scanned the thread but may have missed it. There’s no pressure to post one, of course, but as the forum’s policy to demos and interest checks has changed, WIPs without shareable work are now in the interest check thread!
