Shattered : Oblivion (WIP, 96k words) - STANDALONE REWORK TEASER AVAILABLE ON POST 494 (31/10/2024)

How do they taste though? Like I’m assuming Loran tastes like pork but have no idea of the other races.

Nevermind we can fix it with magic.

Sounds too strict. And not free enough. And male. And furry. Will pass but may eat.

I don’t condone cannibalism so won’t eat. However…damn I forget if we have mind control or necromancy. Anyway anyone thinking there a rival needs a head check, no one could compete with I.

Also gonna pass. You live in spite of the universe not to spite it.

Bleh honor. Pride. :face_vomiting: next thing she’ll be talking about altruism and empathy.

Elves taste like Duck and Orks like Boar. Next question!

He’s more like the paladin that gets summoned to the captain’s office and called a loose cannon for ignoring about every law he possibly could have and disobeying direct orders.

Oath of “Fuck it we ball.”

Don’t bully them, they like it.

Everyone lives in spite of the universe. Life is the anomaly. But this guy took it personally.

I meant it when I said “personal”. She’s a wild elf in the first place, they don’t have the same vision of morality we do.

Mans legit took being alive personally and said Feck you Universe I do what I want lmao

Yeah, but is he going to support me in my quest of boiling people alive from both inside and outside?

Well warcrimes count as going against laws I suppose… tho methinks he would object against such a torture

What’s wrong with furries?

Smites you

What is it with you gremlins and wasteful cruelty? I said he’s a maverick, not a degenerate lmao.

Nothing I assume, seemed like a joke to me. Mutants are hardly furries in the first place.

Even Theriantropes aren’t “furries” by any definition of the word.

You can’t just offer us powers to melt a living being into a gory modern art installation and not expect us to run with it :person_shrugging:
So will there be the “wtf is wrong with you” talk with each RO, because: everything. Every single thing is wrong with MC.

(On a serious note, I’m asking if certain romances will be locked under different playstyles, like said paladin wouldn’t fall for an unrepentant dark warlock who isn’t big on the whole new life new me narrative?)

Hey, from where I stand I have the advantage of both giving you the choice in the first place and reserving the right to judge you for the choices you make!

The house always wins.

Every RO have their own boundaries. Being an absolute monster will unsurprisingly not endear you to most of them. But each RO has particular limits. You can already see some of Loran’s in chapter 4.

Another notable one is Visamere despises liars, with a passion. There is no quicker way to earn her contempt than to lie to her.

Paladins most of anyone know that sometimes it’s necessary to resort to extreme measures to protect others. Like Visamere with her warrior mentality, he couldn’t care less about the death of your enemies. If anything, he might agree with you considering paladins have no love for Aquilea or the inquisition.

But if you use your powers against the weak or innocent he’s going to change his tune pretty fast. He’s not against bringing some comeuppance on those who deserve to be taught a lesson, but cross the line and he won’t stand by and watch you do it.

And NOW I can’t decide beetwen these three, but I suppouse I have to wait and go with the flow :stuck_out_tongue: Furry himbo sounds amazing tho

Isn’t Visamere female? Did you mix up their pronouns with the paladin?

I was saying he has a similar mindset.

Oh. From the way the sentence was phrased, it seemed like you were referring to Visamere as male instead of female.

I just wish to be efficient. Which may include fusing together body parts or harvesting organs

Toxic control freak got it.

Not a conquest, treachery or oathbreaker I take it.

Fleas, possible rabies any animal ailment really.

The idea that cruelty has ever been efficient gives me brain damage.

Let’s be real, that’s more of a Shattered kind of flaw.

Oathbound warriors all abide by their own personal code made manifest through oath, they are often summarized down to the virtue that matters most to them but they are generally more complex and less binary than they can be in D&D if you take them at the letter of the oath rather than its spirit.

Paladins here aren’t the only oathbound in this setting either. Knights and inquisitors are also oathbound though the oaths and resulting boons are quite different. And the stigma of the old inquisitors was a very similar concept.

If that particular paladin’s oath had to be summarized it would probably be Oath of Valor or Oath of Vehemence, with a strong emphasis on retribution and uh… invigoration for lack of a better word. He’s all about facing evil directly and inspiring people to do the same.

All mutants are to some extent touched by chaos, one advantage is that the potency of their blood would condemn small bloodsuckers to death if they actually were bold enough to get close in the first place.

As for rabies, one of the risks of mutations is succumbing to one of many forms of mind-breaking influences to turn into a feral monster, so there’s that.

Stop gaslighting, John Shattered : Oblivion is perfect.

You’re not doing it right then :innocent: Need more… Rimworld, Dwarf Fortress and Stellaris in your life.

How dare you hit me with my favorite character type in our MC with “I’m broken and unlovable and she deserves better”, now I have to romance Loran :stuck_out_tongue:

On another note, there are a lot of things I’m adding or changing. My mindset and my intentions for the story have changed over the years, evolved into a clearer picture. And the beginning of the story will reflect it.

Sometimes through small things.

I’m adding the possibility of playing as a wild elf, I remember that had been requested way back, and at the time I thought it wouldn’t truly fit the story, but now I think it does. Like I said before, I’m making many modifications to character creation, adding a bunch of customization options as well as changing the system that set your gender so that it is more flexible.

One question I do have for people who DO NOT want to customize their character beyond the essential things like gender, body, etc. Do you prefer the MC being given a “standard” appearance for each race, or the MC’s appearance not being mentioned at all later on? (I guess I’ll make a poll)

Three new characters will be added to chapter 1’s “free roam” section, as well as more interactions with Orion and Loran in a peaceful setting if you seek them out. Also several events that will let you learn more about the world and the events going on beyond the walls of the village.

A bunch of new scenes sprinkled here and there are meant to better established what the MC is going through and how they are coping with it. The flaw system is part of that of course, but these new scenes have for a goal to better set it up and show off the consequences of these tendencies on the MC’s mental state and their interactions with other people.

The poll for people who do not want a custom Shattered (added obligatory third option just for the sake of it):

  • Standard appearance relative to chosen race
  • Less/No commentary on the MC’s appearance during conversations
  • I do want to customize my character, shut up author!
