Shattered Eagle: Fall of an Empire (WIP) [721k Words | Chapter VII Update 01/10/2026]

A pretty peaceful chapter, by this story’s standards. Highlights for your truly include:

Summary

JuliaGPT

Augusta likes turtles, puzzles and daisies

Leta cements her place as one of my favourite characters

Here come the consequences of saving Tristitia? (or is Leta lying?)

Titus can become a good sculptor (power of parental love?)

Gaia is the virus (you don’t just override a pending request if you were the original administrator, the latter being clearly gone)

Darius cements his place as my BFF

Lucia was as much of a nerd as I thought she was

I video called the wrong person (Hello Mother of Sorcery…)

I’m sorry family I got no time for you, relaxation time for Augusta is of the highest importance

And, of course, the expected cliffhanger

Now I can finally go to sleep. Have a great reading everyone. I sure did.

Can you screenshot or paste where it seems to show that?

Ah, I see the problem. I’ll fix this.

Will fix this too.

Will implement this in my next content update between chapters.

Will fix!

My Sorceress has been having quite a bit of fun exploring her “divine gift” this chapter! Very excited to see where that goes.

A bug and a suggestion, both spoilered for people who haven’t finished the chapter yet:

  1. I chose not to intervene with Augusta on the “wear trousers” idea and she rejected it, but people still grumbled about her “barbarian trousers” during the petitioner scene.
  2. Augusta rejected the first proposal idea, but would it be possible to present her the other options anyway in that case? It feels a bit off for my very dutiful character to be only presenting her one option when she’s been given two.

Also, here are my end-of-demo stats as requested!

@Azan So I have to agree to the deal with Leta in order to flip Ceto? Why can’t I approach Ceto directly for terms?

Because it takes two to tango. The rebel coalition is made up of Victoria’s camp and the Senate/People or Foederati camp. In order to convince the whole coalition to come to the table, you need an in with both, which Leta provides.

Also, because making yet another path here would be an immense expenditure of time, word and code that would only further complicate how I’m handling the story, I’m afraid. I’m already implementing two different ways to ally with Leta.

Found a code bug:

*choice
*if ((tax = true) and (treasury = true))
#I cannot help but recall my past dealings with Legate Otha. What character of woman is she truly?

No way can you achieve this condition organically.

@Azan The Auxiliary religion scene needs another proofreading, as the stat checks and boosts seem to be contradictory to the plot.

I just checked that section and it seems to be working as intended. Trying to convert the Gruth encourages Antonius’ Iudian side over his Gruth side. Protecting the Gruth from attempts to convert them encourages his Gruthungian side. The complex factor is if you accept his suggestion to encourage the syncretism of Vanad and Gaia, which he approves of and encourages his Iudian side, as you’re showing him the two peoples can integrate under Iudian institutions. Refusing his suggestion if he makes it polarizes him against the Church and thus encourages his Gruth side.

That part is fixed. However, it’s not just veteran or warfare, but if the prefect is openly male, she’ll automatically distrust his abilities.

If Augusta makes her will known in place of the Prefect here, Lucretia keeps her mouth shut. She can be rebuked if you make the suggestion to Augusta as a non-veteran weak at war/openly male and Augusta affirms your request to lead the expedition.

That’s correct, I just fixed it so she doesn’t say anything if Augusta speaks up first.

Okay, I have just tried another fix, let me know if the text erroneously appears again.

yhea but she dose not says anything. how can she be rebuked?

Nicon says that senate decided that my perfect is best candidate and then i ask agusta whom she thinks should lead expedition. and then above dialogue shows that says that lucretia got rebuked, which did not happen at least to my eyes.

these is problematic peace. lurcetia dose not says anything but then text says that she got rebuked.
either lurcetia dialogue should be added in above section or word rebuked should be taken out form below one.

fixed

its so funny that with paragon agusta i managed to burn gurthundi to ground. revoked foderati privilages, decided to annex hadat, to fight against ezperia, turn down letas? offer, (its funny that they still whant marige even if agusta is titus child ) guess i have to kill all of them, killed parthian prince and after all of these im allied to senate which im going to betray with ceto. i will be suprised if there will be empire standing after all of these :joy: i call these run most peacfull 3 century roman year.

Ceto background and moments where great, same gose for most of stats checks, finnaly i think there argument can be made that economy is not single best stat, (it still best)
i would say skuldagery, and Subterfuge need some little more love others are in good place

Leta herself is pretty much unconcerned with that. I would say much of her family is by contrast…but at the end of the day, to the old Prefect herself, names mean more than blood, and like all facts, the fact of Augusta’s parentage can always be manipulated to suit a Galeriae agenda. Even if it’s obvious, most people in the Empire aren’t going to be able to go right up and check that out for themselves.

yhea that was my reading of situation. Will be funny to watch how situation develops as titus will be biggest supporter of agusta. also my loyality with senate is 100, i hope that at least that will take some bite out of damage she can do. or if it will decrease my senate support i can at least afford it

forgot to say agusta interlud was great.
