Shattered Eagle: Fall of an Empire (WIP) [340k words | Small Content Update 02/10/2025]

Can we start teaching agusta later when we had enough with using her as puppet? Or we just had a change of heart.

Augusta’s personality is now permanently set. There will be variations, depending on her trust of the MC, her strength of will, and whether the MC raised/spent time with her. But a Puppet Augusta will remain a Puppet, and same with the other two alignments.

I don’t see it that way. It would jump the status of Mcs family from well of pleb to two purple males and a true noble family .(and if bastardy is known there is three). + if she is a puppet how could she argue even if bastardy is revealed to her?
Also wouldn’t the revealed bastardy a good alternative way to killing her in the way of reaching Emperor regnant position? By destroying her legitimacy we could seize power for ourselves without the need to kill our dear daughter.

It would certainly elevate the MC’s family and cement the MC’s own position in the palace, a great boon to their personal power, but it would be a blatant act of nepotism that would risk alienating much of the Empire’s elite. If Augusta is the MC’s child and this is known, this would only further reinforce the rumors of her illegitmacy and emphasize the ‘commonblooded’ aspect of her alleged heritage over the purple of her mother or “father.” This would weaken Augusta’s hold on power, and as the MC has power through her, it would be a very risky proposition.

As for how Augusta would argue, she likely wouldn’t.

If the MC was anyone else, yes, it could very well be used effectively against her. But as the Augusta’s parent, if that is known, you would be inheriting much of the stained reputation that Augusta would have, due to that.

That isn’t to say there won’t be a way for the MC to seize the throne, but the path to that will become evident in the next chapter.

We have good allies like foderaty and legion to force our will. And if allying with senate a big chunk of politicians and nobles are with us so I still think there isn’t really anything obstruct us from reaching Regnancy without paying as big price as our childs life.
Another question… could we do a usurper path too?

There are more interest groups at play in Iudian politics, and an alliance is not absolute regardless of circumstance. Nevertheless, what consequences an attempted usurpation will have to face will be revealed in due time to a MC which chooses to pursue that route.

Overthrowing Augusta and assuming the throne is the usurper path.

I think he means if the Usurper path is still available if Augusta is the Prefect’s daughter, since that would mean couping his own heir.

Yes. After all, the Prefect can express multiple times in the text, even if Augusta is their daughter, that they don’t care about her at all.

Yes, but regardless of that the Prefect is not inmortal, he will need to eventually leave an heir, so while he could just marry and have another kid he should at least take into consideration that he already has one with a claim to the throne.

I could see him deciding to coup her anyway, blood be damned, if she is a Paragon or a Tyrant since she could try to go against him, plenty of real life examples of such a thing happening, but a puppet Augusta would mean he already has his blood on the throne who does everything he says.

Not impossible, maybe he just really wants his name to be the Imperial Family name from then on, which he couldn’t do if he cannot reveal her true parentage, but it’s still something that has to be justified.

I wonder if a tyrant Augusta might try to arrest MC for some offence, real or imagined, as a way to consolidate power for example and if MC refuses and has enough support he could just stage a coup and seize the throne that way.

There will certainly be options in such a path. All I can say without spoiling the plot is that there will be such a path to usurp Augusta, she can potentially die by the end of the story, and it will be possible regardless of Augusta’s parentage.

When it’s written in Julia’s death scene that we can’t become Emperor regnant till she is alive I thought the only way to be legally Emperor was to kill her. If we can be Emperor without Killing her by just usurping the throne and we can never get it legal without usurpation then it changes how I perceive the story.

That’s why I suggested when we got ourselves Emperor regnant position we make Agusta our heir by revealing her parentage. But Azan shuted me down.

The text suggests that the MC could make that usurpation, but that their claim would be derided and disregarded by many so long as Augusta lives. To an MC plotting a usurpation, it would seem likely that could be plots or revolts to install Augusta on the throne from those who were loyal to Julia.

That was, after all, Julia’s rationale behind trying to kill Victoria and Tristitia, that so long as they lived they would pose a threat to her rule, as they could be used as justification for any disgruntled officers or elites to rebel.

But they both survive and any revolt is after more than a decade happening so that argument is failed one. So I still think there is a way to get power with no more sacrifice than Julia.
Edit: and we are seeing leta a obvious contentor living and ploting without harm so this too shows a silver lining to Agusta future when we try usurping throne.

Can’t a puppet Agusta be influenced to abdicate to us?

Tristitia’s survival is conditional, but Victoria’s is not. Julia, however, would certainly not agree considering the scale of the revolt planned out over that decade and the fact that they managed to (almost or actually) assassinate her.

There’s no easy way to have your cake and eat it too, in order to seek absolute power and hold on to it, the MC will have to reckon with the cost, if they are willing to pay for it, and the consequences if they are not.

Leta was not in the direct line of succession, and publicly gave up her claim as part of a deal with Julia as the MC saw in the Chapter IV flashback.

Whether that can happen will become clear in time.

I guess we should wait and see all you have planned and will write then make comments.
But I’m sure we will get a chipset from AI goddess immediately when new chapter gets released

@Azan A question: When exactly did Iblin began reaching out to the senate/ auxiliaries? I assume is sometime after the assassination attempt, as their plan if left uninterrupted clearly intend to force the framed faction into rebellion in face of a purge, if they prove to be the more convenient scapegoat.

Yet they were persuaded regardless of the investigation outcome, so one also have to ask, what ultimately was the straw that broke them into the conspiracy that they appear hesitant before the assassination if they weren’t implicated, and was Iblin already setting them up as sacrificial powns even as he was making alliances?

It’s worth noting that that the rival faction is not the only potential culprit that can be framed by Iblin in Chapter III, merely the faction/individual that appears the most antagonistic to the Prefect. The outcome of the investigation was also not public knowledge, not so much as either the Consul or Legate would’ve known of what Julia and the Prefect believed. Julia says as much in Chapter IV.

As for how that alliance, however potentially reluctant, came to be? That will be revealed in due course.

Got a… weird question to ask, is it possible to…hate women when you play as a dude? I mean, hating matriarchy should be something my male character can consider, right?
