This is fair! I try to keep liberalism as a default, because I have no interest in writing a conservative white protagonist–I will always write conservative characters, but there’s only so much I can take. However, I try to create a spectrum with hippie culture as somewhat of an extreme rather than a standard, so in future I will try to broaden the spectrum more.
Also fair. It is your story in the end so you can of course do what you want. I am happy that you will maybe allow more different perspectives in your future projects. That said I still like this story a lot! ![]()
Personally, I think it would be interesting to see a center or conservative character. Their reaction to the world of fame and fortune would be interesting. But to each their own.
Hi! There are conservative characters in Scapegoated, but the inclusion of a conservative protagonist is directly antithetical to the story I intend to tell–in a way that I think is, by now, abundantly clear. I am a black, bisexual woman and creating a white woman as an MC has already proven to be a bold and intentional narrative choice. However, conservatism is less so bold as it is entirely jarring to me within this context. While the MC will have moments of ignorance, conservatism in a time of great revolution doesn’t read to me as the most interesting angle to explore. But, yes, each to their own.
Oh my god, thank you! I’m so over the moon that you picked up the “Smith-Morra Gambit” song title. And thank you again in general, this is too much and my heart is so full.
But yes, Bob Dylan is Vince’s gospel, so I’m glad that came through even before I said so outright–everything is coming together!
I love this story so far. thank you for writing it and sharing it.
Ah for the Siren Calls “puzzle” I just… immediately saw the answer and got really frustrated when I got it right the first time is all.
I was also thinking. For the Irish MC, I’m not Irish, but I thought they call their police garda. Maybe it’s just a South Ireland thing? The only Northern Irish people I know are on TV lmao.
Is there a way to not have a good American accent… My first playthrough is as French MC and I think it would be so much more difficult to change your accent if you don’t even speak the language as your first. But I haven’t looked at the code so idk if it’s possible.
You’re kind of right.
They’re usually called “the police” (Police Service of Northern Ireland) up north, as opposed to “Garda” (An Garda Síochána) down south.
Ah thank you so garda is mostly a south Ireland thing? It just sounds like such a nice word for police in my ears. Cute in a way.
You were frustrated that you got something RIGHT? I wish I could be you. And to my knowledge, in NI, they had slang for the police, peelers, which has political origins to Robert Peel, but as far as I am aware, a lot of rhetoric is of British origin due to the British occupation of NI.
Also, I tried to maintain focus on acting strength for the acting career route–so boldness and line memory–strictly because I didn’t want to overcomplicate the code. There’s already so much going on due to so many themes, and as I only created Scapegoated as a fun hobby for myself, I didn’t want to make it any more elaborate (and admittedly ambitious) than it has quickly become.
Yes… lol, but it’s just me cause I skim read a lot of POV bits. That one cause I’m not particularly interested in puzzles, especially word ones. But every time I see a puzzle I just look at the first letters of the words if they read like gobbledygook. So I got it right and then had to capitalise it twice cause I did it wrong ![]()
Huh, so you can have a bad accent? If you are bad at acting? Sorry I should probably just look at the code but I can’t be arsed.
I just recently played again after a long time but am I misremembering something or did there used to be some sort of ‘survival’ stat maybe I’m getting this mixed up with a similar WIP
I’m not sure if this has been asked before, but can this book be published as is? Just wondering out of curiosity since it not only mentions real people, but has them speaking and doing things that didn’t happen in real life - the player character having an affair with George Harrison, for example? Would the names have to be changed for publishing?
I don’t know for sure, but I think this should be fine.
Whoa. This update fucking cooked! Seriously, I was so on the edge of my seat and couldn’t stop exploring all the variations and possibilities. What’s crazy is I am absolutely ASS at puzzles, but apparently I chose all the right secret dialogue options because my FeMC knew what the puzzle was right away! She’s smarter than me and I’m proud of her
Also, the acting scenes were so damn good.
Was a bit lukewarm on Penn and Vic at first because I don’t wanna commit to a RO until all of the ROs are out on the field cough Wright cough but the chemistry you can have with all of them is really something special. Them just having fun and relaxing at the bar really made me smile, especially considering how fucked things are about to get with the serial killer. I’m not too worried, though. I have complete faith in my Irish heartbreaking lass to put the boots to his ass!
There is! I’m just locking it for now until a certain part in a future chapter appears.
It would in theory, but I have no aspiration for doing as such. Writing this has always been and will be just a bit of fun! I genuinely didn’t ever think it would receive this much attention.
Ah!! I’m so so so glad you enjoyed! I’ve been really looking forward to writing the acting scenes, so it’s been a treat to explore. Sometimes I swear the dynamics between characters write themselves. Distinguishing their personalities shouldn’t be as easy as it has been so far, but they feel so real to me at this point.
P.S. P Wright is so close now, hang in there!
Oh thanks for answering I have one last question if you don’t mind will our choices we make now affect it before then?
once again i’ve drawn my mc and i wanna share her. i’m cheering and clapping any time it says the mc wears green
AND it’s been a while since i played in my sims game with everyone but the last thing that had happened aside from my having a full house of babies with penn was i got pop up notifications about vince becoming a vampire (after being a groupie for a while of course) and then immediately getting in a fight and losing worse than anyone has ever lost before. everyone else was just having a good time lmao except for him. he’s the king of having a problem when nobody else does ![]()
