Not that I can think of other than the shaping of your ronin and their choices. Also it is good to read the first two to know where the story is coming from in book 3.And they are both good books.

Not quite! This is not important, but I’m not sure if many people know about it: by choosing certain names in Book One, you get small stat bonuses.

These bonuses are, of course, unimportant and won’t really affect your game - but they’re a delightful little addition, and include a lovely hidden message from the author, along with custom nicknames for most of them! Details here:

Impulsive +10%
Kaoru / Kao: My katana isn’t some wooden practice sword!

Charming +10%
Fuu / Fuu: Can you smell the sunflowers?
Ibuki / Ibu: What’s a girl hafta do to get some cake around here?

Perverted +10%
Ryoko / Ryo: Me, a shameless flirt? I just like to tease.

Chivalrous +10%
Mulan / Mulan: Let’s get down to business.

I’m sure plenty of people encountered these by accident already - as people mentioned above, gotta be a lot of ‘Mugen’ and ‘Jin’ ronins knocking about. Extra little things like this, though - really shows the Author’s love and passion for their own work. I know it’s not a new thing, but damn me I’m impressed every time.

To complete the Mugen and Jin trio above… I’ve just played the trilogy through as Fuu. Man, it is hard to be a friendly, peaceful ronin!

Sorry chief, there’s no stat bonuses for the default-listed names such as Rin

They’re really just for flavour though, the bonuses won’t affect anything unless you’re balancing your stats very close to 50% and need to tip one of them over.

I play the chivalrous, finesse, calculated ronin with chipmunk this is kind of helpful for boosting those stats when i choose to be a crazed ronin instead of being peaceful.

My Ronin has all blue stats at more than 50% except for charming. She has the firefly as her spirit animal. She probably the few Ronin with these stats. And Book 3 was most heart wrenching with playing these type of MCs. Dx

I really can’t play a brutal ronin though. Maybe one of these days when I create another Ronin.

I must admit to being slightly disappointed at not getting any bonuses for ‘Sanjuro’ or even ‘Kuwabatake’ or ‘Tsubaki’.

Upon later reflection, I found it actually somewhat fitting for him to remain an unknown after all.

Brutal Ronin + Wild Boar is the best Ronin, IMHO.

It is hard to maintain 100% attunement, when I did it I was very pleased:

I like playing a Stoic, Calculated, Brutal Ronin. I don’t know why, but that combination gets me. Maybe it’s the contrast between the stony facade and the writhing, bloodthirsty demon underneath? Maybe I just really like making an archetypical badass? Who knows.
