Quiver: a Robin Hood legend. Official Topic and first draft of Chapter Three complete!

As you may or may not be aware but me and my family lost our beloved Fur baby Merlin our 17 year old cat on Saturday. So I’ve taken a break from writing for a bit until things calm down a little and when we finally get his ashes back.

I may not be writing this week but that doesn’t mind I’m not thinking of this game. For example in honour of our Merlin the Merry Men camp will soon become home to a delightful Black and White cat (a tuxedo cat to be precise) called Merlin. And obviously he shall be pettable.

Hi all. Now I’ve got my Merlin’s ashes back I’ve gotten back to writing this game. I want to get Chapter Three finished by the end of the month.

Still to do are; finish the melee tournament, write the Archery tournament, expand on a few earlier scenes, add the cat to the camp scenes, and write the end part of chapter three.

Now, this brings me to a question, during the earlier fights Robin can choose to lose on purpose. Especially if you do it in your first fight there will be less scenes overall as you will miss the other fights. My answer at the moment is to let Robin return to exploring the town, or maybe just relax and watch the rest of the fights.

I also had a thought and think would people be interested in the chance to steal the prize money for the melee?

Depending on who actually earns the winnings, stealing them could be very fun, but I wouldn’t want to take it from one seriously lucky farmer, if you follow what I mean. A pompous jerk type of noble, or knight on the other hand? All your cash are belong to the poor, now!

Is it just a cash prize? If there’s a trophy or something it would be fun to steal it and put it some place high up where, when it’s time for the award ceremony, a lot of people are going to notice and struggle to get it back down to earth.

Now, suppose Robin doesn’t win against Ethelred (the farmer). In that case, the farmer will lose the next match against either a former mercenary or a bodyguard (determined by an earlier Robin choice), and the final match would be against Moran (the disguised Marian).

You’ve just given me the idea to allow Robin to help sabotage Ethelred’s next opponent so he wins again. Marian will still win, but she will offer him the prize money as she doesn’t really need it. That could be fun to figure out ways to do that.

@Cecilia_Rosewood

At the moment it’s just a prize money but that is another fun idea so I’ll add in a trophy as well (maybe an exotic sword that the Sheriff had commissioned for the winner)

It’s been slow going but I’ve finished the third match of the melee (and the second match Robin can witness).

The next match to write will be match Four (the third Robin can witness).

I am not happy with my writing lately but I’m trying to push through it. I can always go back over things once the chapter is done.

Hi! Love the game so far!!

However I did find a bug after I restarted. Basically, when I open the game the first thing I do is to go to “Settings”. But when I press “Return to game” it basically send me to the settings screen again, practically trapping me in a loop (I didn’t press any other options when I was in the settings page except “Return to game”).
Hope this helps.

Also I’m curious about the Author’s Note (or Code, i don’t remember tbh).

Have a great day!!

Ooo, I love Robin Hood!! Keep up the good work—I’ll be waiting with bated breath even if you decide to do a rewrite, there’s no rush to perfection

Thanks. Been busy past couple of days but intend to do some more writing tomorrow evening

Finally reached the end of the archery contest and the archer duel versus Isabelle. Just need to write the winning scene where you get the prize and the losing scene where you don’t. Then go back and finish some earlier scenes that I couldn’t settle on.

The current word count is now 102,792 words (story+code).

Love the IF so far, played a noble Robin betrothed to Juliana (hell yeah to alternate history allowing sapphic marriage) who avoids killing but is fully willing to, can’t wait to be able to meet Juliana again, will be an interesting (and hopefully happy and wholesome) interaction, get revenge/justice on the Sherrif and Sir Guy and (I assume) regain my noble title.
Thank you for writing.

Yes you will be able to meet her again in Chapter Three (that is one of the scenes I need to go back and add)

You will be able to get Revenge/justice on the Sheriff and Sir Guy.

Regaining your noble title is one of the possible endings for a Noble Robin.

Glad you enjoyed the first two chapters!

#…you’re trying to keep up my mother’s spirits.

“You” and “my” used to refer to the mc in the same choice.

I think I saw some choices using you/your and some using my, but I didn’t keep track of all of them.

#Talk more about your betrothal.

Hide reuse not working

Go find your mother," you mother whispers to her. “Robin, go follow…”

your

#Get another drink.

If you pick this option when talking with Leif, buy another drink (or change your mind), you can introduce yourself to Leif again and again

#Approach the altar.

I was able to pick this at the priory again and again, and Maynard asked me about my faith again and again.

At the orphanage, you can tell the same story twice.

“Tis a lovely town, with a lovely priory,” Tuck says smiling. “Friar Maynard is a delight to talk with, although he isn’t a fan of my love of ale.”

Your next question is aimed at…

With nothing else to talk about for now, you head back to your tent. Your mind focusing on the three men who are the biggest threat to the Merry Men at the moment. Prince John, now the acting King. The Sheriff of Nottingham, the one who wants your head, and last but not least, Sir Guy of Gisborne the man responsible for your life as a Wolf’s Head.

You might want to code out the “your next question is aimed at…” part when you’re out of questions.

Good luck.

Question for you all, if your Robin was visiting a different priory whoses friar, Friar Tuck warns you of collaborating with the Sheriff, and on arriving you find the friar visiting the castle leaving you to chat with the four acolytes there (Acolyte Willow, Acolyte Hestor, Acolyte Oscar and Acolyte Gloria) without them worrying about what the friar knowing, what would you like to ask them? Also would you like an option to do anything else within the priory? (for example leaving a “gift” for the friar as a warning?)

Just an FYI tomorrow I’ll be writing a scene where you can steal the golden arrow prize for the archery contest and I’ve going to bed thinking of what I’ll let Robin do with it.

My ideas so far are;

keep it for yourself (to sell or to use at a certain point later in the game)

Shoot it somewhere high (thinking of into the bottom part of a stand built for the nobles watching the archery contest.

Drop it in the mud somewhere so it gets stomped into the ground.

Should be a fun day tomorrow!

I’m not sure if this is helpful, but there are a few glaring errors in the first chapter. Like, I tried the noble background, and I kept getting pages where it acted as though I was an acolyte (mentioning Tuck as my mentor, talking about having been an orphan) This almost exclusively happened when I was in jail.

When I played the acolyte, right after choosing my unique (to the route) companion, the next page (or the one right after) then prompted me to choose the Yeoman companion.

I’ve only played the first chapter so far, but figured these could be potentially be off-putting for a new reader (idgaf personally, it’s enjoyable and interesting to me so I look past this stuff) but also wanted to help! Maybe I’ll add more here when I finish a few playthroughs.

That’s strange. I thought I fixed that issue already. I’ll have another look at the code and see if I missed anything.

Thanks for reporting it.

Edit: I’ve found the reason you got the yeoman friend right after the acolyte friend I had the wrong number on the label. That’s fixed now, but I won’t update until I find the reason for the mixing origins.

Edit2: I’ve turned a few [else] commands into an [elseif] command and added an extra [else] which goes to a bug.

I’ve pushed the updated file now am going to test it now.

Edit3: Tried the acolyte and i didn’t get the yeoman friend so that looks like it fixed. Going to do a noble robin now to see if ive fixed the mixed origins too

Edit4 I’ve completed Chapter One as a Noble Robin and didn’t spot any mention of the other origins now, which hopefully means I fixed it.

It seems that going to the market takes all of your silver instead of however much the merchant charges

Okay. that didn’t happen before it must have been the new coding for money I’ll get that fixed now.

Edit: Yeah, thats a me error I put it to reduce silver to 0 if (silver > 0) instead of (silver < 0) it is now fixed.
