PRESS PLAY (music WIP, prologue, chapter 1 + chapter 2, 118k words; UPDATED September 30th)

Complaints about the lack of romance in the WIP this far really. I shouldn’t say more than that I think

Oh. Well that’s kind of—

Nah I won’t say more either. Thanks <3

It’s probably sth I’ll end up adding in later though, if I ever come up with effective options that stand out from the femme and masc ones

I get that now a days though it’s hard to find out what’s considered gender neutral now a days I’ll bet there’s fashion YouTubers who talk about the subject in a fun way you could look into.

Speaking of which, I’m kind of bummed you need to wear ripped jeans (and can’t wear regular ones) with band tees. :stuck_out_tongue: Horrible to choose between weird shirts and clothes that aren’t broken! (It’s fine, I can live with it. I just hate ripped jeans.)

Would it be possible to avoid the femme and masc labels altogether and just offer the full list of clothes to everyone (or at least those who would rather express gender neutral)? I suspect that what I would consider to be “gender neutral” would be different than someone with a different relationship to their gender and their body.

Depending on your perspective, I’d see gender-non-conforming clothing as either purposefully defying the norms associated with gender, or simple aligning with the whims of the individual who’s wearing the clothing. For example if I, a nonbinary person who appears very obviously femme, wear a lacy sundress, am I still GNC? I would feel far too feminine-presenting for my own comfort, but another afab NB person might feel completely differently.

To be absolutely clear, I only speak for myself here, but I would feel most comfortable simply having all options available.

Finally got a chance to play through the new content. Great pacing, loved the background info. I still kinda feel I am playing to a pre-determined outcome, with none of my choices affecting much, but it’s at least a well-written and engaging one. I mentioned this in the past, but the placement of the interview segments is just fantastic. I always feel weird choosing responses for how others feel/act toward my character, though. That’s probably just me, but wanted to throw it out there.

Dude. What the fuck. This is the best CYOA I’ve ever played ever and it’s not even finished and I’ve played these things since Choice of the Dragon. Dude. This is amazing. WOW.

I hear you! However, I want (for various reasons, popular demand being one) a female or male MC to be able to crossdress. That would make it necessary to present the options separately. BUT I’m thinking, maybe I should present all of the options for the nb folks

Aww you really think so? That’s very very lovely to hear 🩷

Right, that makes sense! I was sure there was a reason behind the labels (and, I imagine, flags in the code).

Yeah, I could see that a good way to allow space for enby players/MCs to define their own gender presentation.

OK now I want to try that lol. My MC is a cis-guy but I play around with that character’s gender presentation in other IFs from time to time because, while he identifies as a man for sure, that’s rarely (if ever) defined by what’s considered stereotypically masculine.

Make sure to get some rest! I hope you feel better soon

Yes there absolutely are flags in the code hehe. The other characters just haven’t commented on the MC’s crossdressing yet bc that will only really happen once the band reaches new heights. Stevie, Angel, etc. have never known differently after all.

It’s settled then :pinched_fingers: I’ll have to make an update with some fixes soon anyway, I’ll probably add that in there then. Will take a while tho, especially since I am sick af right now and can’t really muster the mental capacity for writing/scripting :pensive: now please pity me

Yooo this is a long one. I’ll get back to all the aspects in time but rn, I’m just gonna address the last one! I’ve gotten similar feedback on Tumblr so I suppose I’ll have to change that BUT HERE GOES. MC can actually have a crush on Zima if you pick the “I’m blushing” option during the music therapy session. Apparently, that is not quite as straightforward as I thought it would be  I’ll add sth there for clarification when I get around to it but yeah, that line is in fact the indicator that MC likes Remy romantically

I am thinking of David Bowie as Ziggy Stardust when you lay it out here, but may I make the suggestion that in addition to the clothing a MC chooses, you allow them to indicate how they are “presenting” themselves to their audiences?

This way you can have a single list of every clothing item and the reader can present themselves how they desire?

Best of both worlds.

Ohhh yes Ziggy Stardust is such a vibe for ethereal beauty m!MC (at least in my head). I love David Bowie so much

Anyway, please elaborate bc I don’t quite get it…

David Bowie made an effort to present “Ziggy Stardust” as an androgynous, alien rock star – he crafted the entire look to promote this fictional narrative during the entire tour for this particular album.

So, if we were doing this in Press Play we would choose the “pantsuit” and then there would be a choice of how do we wish to present: Fem/Masc/Androgynous (for example) … then as you write, you can tailor people’s reactions to the way our MC presents themselves.

It sounds like you are doing this already to an extent, but by tweaking the clothing choices just a bit you empower your readers even more to “tell a narrative” as David Bowie did.

I hope this helps explain my thoughts

Hi!! So I’m sure you’re pretty sick of hearing this all the time but imma say it nonetheless. This is one of the best IFs I have ever played. :smiling_face_with_three_hearts:

Everything about it was perfect. The pacing is very good, the writing is pretty, the characters are amazing, and the story is great. I felt like I was watching a movie and a great one at that. :sparkles:

I love the MC so much and how deep her past and story is. And the band of course, omg I love them so much.

Stevie is the best bestie one can ask for. She was always there for me and looked out for me as my family was driving me crazy. I would die for her! And who could forget about the boys. Angel and Maddox are best boys ever. Angel is very funny, makes me laugh, always brightens up my mood, and is also hot hehe. :flushed:

Leland tho omg do I love him. He’s so cute, so nice. I’m in love. I hope he will be better. His date was the best. :flushed: :sob:

And there is Lincoln. The creepy, hot dude who is obsessed with me. And lol do I love this. I love the creepy feeling he gives when he shows up.

For Zima, I had mixed feelings about him at first. I was like hot but also why you are a jerk to me dude? I didn’t do anything! But then after I learned what happened and his story with the MC I almost did cry and understand his anger now.

Anyway, imma stop yapping now. Love what you have so far and can’t wait for more. This is now one of my top IFs ever.

There’s a gaping hole in me that needs to be fed with compliments about my writing, and y’all are seriously underestimating the size of that thing if you think I’ll ever get sick of hearing things like that.

Got to thinking i know we caught a glimps of Lincoln interview but not quite had it yet weve had stevie and angel and the grahams and zima to a extent. What i was wondering if it didnt get ibto spoiler territory is just how many people will be drawn in for interviews that we havent seen yet?
