Huh. o.o That’s interesting to know!

Thank you so much!

Thank you for reporting this error! I’ll do my best to eliminate it in the next update.

Just a slight update: No major progress has been made as of right now. I’m still trying to slog through the section that needs completion before I can playtest and then upload the demo update. My apologies.

10/27/24 update: I have been sick for a week, and had to take 2 days off work even to recover. I’m not working on it this week. I’ll pick it back up next week.

Hope you feel better soon! Take time to recover and be healthy. There is no rush

Why is the name of the dynasty the same as the imperial family’s surname? That’s not how Chinese dynastic states work.

Tang dynasty was ruled by the Li clan.
Song dynasty was ruled by the Zhao clan.
Ming dynasty was ruled by the Zhu clan.
Qing dynasty was ruled by the Aisin Gioro clan.

As any other choice game it may or may not be reflected to the historically accurate version.

Normally it is Japanese dynasty that use family name as clan/dynastic name.

What are you talking about? Japan has only ever had one imperial family. And the term “dynasty” isn’t used the same way as in Chinese historiography.

Dynasty in China refers to the state, the empire, the administration.

That actually not true that Japanese only being ruled by one imperial Family in it’s entire history.

Historically Yamato family only have records since 1000AD older period is obscured, even 1000 AD claim is really pushing it with incomplete documents and proof.

How about someone like Himiko though? She is not part of Yamato family, yet there is records of her in multiple neighboring region like China, Korea and others, that she rule Japan or called Wa at the time, Himiko is a priestess she is unmarried.

Japanese doesn’t use the term dynasty they just use Imperial Family yet it’s some form of dynastic rule.

Holy wow, I did not expect there to be a debate in the comments!

To answer your question, the reason is so that I don’t have to try to keep track of two seperate names in regards to the empire vs the emperor’s family name.

I recognize it’s not historically accurate, and honestly, it’s lazy… But this was one level of historical accuracy I was willing to give in on, so that I could focus on other parts of the story. Originally, it wasn’t going to have a name at all, and just be called the Dynasty or The Great Dynasty. But that got repetitive and also difficult to do dialogue wise.

So this is how it shall be for now. I might change it later, if I come up with a more thematic and poetic name for the country. But for now, this is good enough.

I have no idea who you’re referring to, and that’s exciting to me. XD

Anyway, thank you both for the passion you’ve shown regarding my little game! I hope I do well and keep your good regard.

Actually the term “Great” is for the most part used when one dynasty hopes to make sure that they’re supreme in their rule or to make themselves legitimate as the ruling dynasty. The Mongol ruled Yuan dynasty for example, officially they referred themselves as “Da Yuan (Great Yuan), since they were more or less seeking to legitimise their rule over China, especially among the Han Chinese, as they were for the most part referred to as the bei man zi (Northern barbarians), and that somewhat also goes to the Manchu ruled Qing dynasty too.

That is fantastic, I didn’t know that! Thank you, I always wondered why some dynasties were “great” but others weren’t. Now I’m gonna have to go back and remove the references to that!

You know, now that I think of it, it might drum up some attention, it I were to put up a contest on naming the dynasty!

where exactly the demo end? my mc is (female) i don’t know if that matter

Actually, the more the think about it, the more I feel that this is actually kind of trivial.

After all, England was ruled by the Tudors at one point. In Game of Thrones, Westeros was ruled by the Targaryens at one point. No one would ever conflate England itself with the Tudors or Westeros itself with the Targaryens.

I strongly feel that it is a good idea for you to keep the name of the empire and the name of the imperial family separate.

Another thing worth mentioning actually, is that almost every dynasty would often refer themselves as the great dynasty within texts for scripture and within the chronicles, for example, when the Tang dynasty and Han dynasty wrote an official statement or letter to another foreign power, they would almost certainly refer themselves as Da Tang (The Great Tang)/ Da Han (The Great Han), but they did that for specific reasons, as both dynasties were superior militarily and economically.

Others for example, the Song dynasty, which we were taught and had read in the chronicles, was a militarily pathetic dynasty but economically it was considered to have seconded to the Tang dynasty, would referred themselves as the Da Song for the purpose of hoping to make themselves more authoritative and less weakly.

It should also be noticed that “dynasty” is a largely historiographic term, not a contemporary one. Where we say “the Tang Dynasty”, someone at the time would simply know the Great Tang, and the Middle Kingdom it governs.

Hi, I love this game! I’m currently playing through it, and noticed a little error in text after selecting the servant type you’re to become (I chose tea)

Error in text

Your work was the only thing that made your days passable, honestly. You had silently come to the conclusion that somehow, your father must have bribed the Momo, the older female servant, in charge of your department to run you through the ringer, because the older woman seemed to give you the harshest chores.

Error

You close your eyes to block out the sight of that other maid’s hair, the late summer heat making sleeping in these dormitories nearly unbearable. The ‘beds’ the palace provided lower servants were literally just a long slab with just enough space for 8 people to lay on their backs shoulder to shoulder. Which meant, the ettiquette required you sleep on your side, facing left.

Yeah it literally says error in text, probably from a code to insert a paragraph according to a stat/selection?

Edit:
Also, while tring to accuse the correct person of the shoe incident, and needing to select their victims to gain their help, I couldn’t call on Ye Ping, it instead gave me a pop up error about not finding the ‘him’ pronoun I think. Cannot continue from then on, as it locks all options.

Thank you so much for this bug report! I hope to have most of these fixed with the next update, but your information really helps me get that up and running!

I’mma be honest with you, Kimosabe, I do not remember. It’s been a year and a half since I put that up, so I’m not sure.

I appreciate that you strongly feel this way. However, I have exactly two spoons at the end of each week that I can spend on working on this game. Now I can spend one of those spoons on correcting and choosing a new dynastic name. Or I can spend that spoon on working on the game itself instead. I choose to spend those spoons on working on the game. Compared to other things I have in the works, this is a minor triviality, and I don’t intend to fix it right this second.

But thank you for your input and I will put it on my log of “things people want me to fix”.

Thank you very much for the historical information! I’ll keep that in mind going forward.

This is a great point, Apple! Thank you!

Hey I think the “edit” shouldn’t appear to me

Thanks for pointing this out! Its an unfortunate limit to the system this forum uses, but Wikis (which this thread is) are editable by all users.

Please do not edit any WIP thread, as they are all Wikis. Its a faux pas, and I believe it will result in some kind of action by the mods, although I’m unsure what. Mostly, though it’s just rude. XD

You’re okay to look at the code I used to make the post though, just please dont edit or remove anything.
