Orion's Own [WIP] [Minor Update 4/7/25]

Another update just got pushed! The prologue should be getting close to done, just another ~2000 words I suspect. The dashingdon save system was likely busted in this update, made some edits to some files and forgot to reinclude some code. It will be fixed in next update. I also caught myself making some verb tense mistakes, so there might be some in there that I missed. Feel free to point out anything that you think might be in error!

I will try to finish the prologue tomorrow, but it will absolutely be done by the end of next week. I’m pushing for Chapter 1 finished by end of April.

Apologies for the radio silence, lots of unexpected stuff popping up in my life right now including broken phone and car. Those have taken over as priority and the time I usually use to write went to getting that resolved. An update should be pushed in the next couple of days

Hey don’t apologise, real life always should be the priority. I hope you’ll get everything under control. Take Care and G’Luck.

You dont have to push yourself to hard. Stuff happens. For example my laptop has been fried for 2 months cant get it fixed yet however most of the stuff was games so no loss cause it on steam

Can’t wait for more; an Sci-Fi merc story seems really interesting, will there be any romance to the story?

Oh and also, when going through the tattoos, it seems like there some lore bits associated with them, is that just some flavor text or will the tattoos chosen actually effect the lore and the and the characters I created?

After a play through i didnt encounter any errors and even i felt like shanking those officers so well done. Looking forward to seeing what else you got instore for us.

Right now I don’t have any romances planned, but that’s not to say they won’t be included. Right now I’m focusing on getting the core gampley loop written and the overarching narrative down.

The tattoos and scars are a way to help you feel like an experienced mercenary with a deep connection to this world. However, I have been playing around with ideas on relating it to gameplay

Yeah so for id say its really good for how recent it is, so keep up the good work, don’t get pressured and take your time, but i was also wondering if you planned to add a sort of cheat menu later on or a godmode of sorts, since i don’t see that alot in most games

Either way take your time, after all as they say ā€œslow is smooth, smooth is fastā€

Yes, I absolutely plan on having a robust cheat menu! I think it’s nice to be able to give you guys a way to experience the story however you’d like, and I’ll allow you to change every variable in the game, with a little note on what the limits of the values are so you hopefully don’t brick your game

First time I noticed this WIP. Good stuff! Really good stuff. Usually I cringe at most of these stories trying to portray firefights and command, but this was refreshing. Great job, gonna follow you.

Having some comments here and there when you wear something appropriate (like arm scars when you wear a tanktop) would be pretty cool. Helps you feel more immersed. I personally also love first person stories so that’s even better.

Thanks! Yeah, I definitely plan on having them mentioned in passing at the very least. I’m just not sure how much ā€œbackstoryā€ is going to come up in terms of impacting gameplay as opposed to changing flavor text and interactions

In this context - flavor text is the most important, with gameplay effects being a secondary, but very immersive and impressive, addition.

How can it affect your character? Severe scars often do ache, sometimes dully and sometimes pretty badly. So a scar in your arm, combined with fatigue or other afflictions may cause you to miss a shot, or a scar in your leg may cause you to stumble. That sort of thing!
