November 2025 Writer Support Thread

Apropos of nothing, I have a character named Graf von Pretzel. (He’s a teddy bear.)

I started rewriting a D&D 5e implementation that I abandoned a while ago. Thought I’d clean up some of the code but I’ve ended up writing absolute jank like this. ChoiceScript is wild :sob:

As for my EOM report,

hahaha… no. I got sick before halfway point and haven’t written a single full snippet since.

(I did, however, have a hilarious TTRPG session where everyone at the table was too tired for their own good, myself included, and the session became completely unhinged, turning our Mage campaign to a surreal version of Alpha Protocol.)

And Our Life: Now & Forever demo update is presumably dropping later today so that’s what I’m spending on the rest of the month. :mechanical_arm:

I thought parsnips were just vampire carrots.

Well, if you keep them outside during a night of full moon…

Just called “swede” in UK English, for anyone trying for British authenticity.

Love this. (Unfortunately, they go great with garlic.)

Yeah but that sounds like eating people, I can’t use that. :person_facepalming: I think I’m just going with red turnips and white turnips. (Well, maybe yellow turnips too.)

(…why on earth is “white turnip” the name for a turnip that’s red instead of one that’s actually white? That makes absolutely no sense. Argh. I give up.)

In Dutch turnips and rutabaga/swede are called knolraap and koolraap respectively, so I always mix them up. There’s, like, one letter difference. It’s like language does it on purpose just to mess with us…

It’s officially the last day of the month here, so I’m going to do my wrap-up a bit earlier than most.

This was done about three weeks in, so I made a little bonus progress on top. As far as words go, it wasn’t as many as I was aspiring to, but the fact that I managed all the relevant scenes feels like the much more important part. Sort of a mindset win, I guess!

Also agricultural history is pretty fascinating. Tomatoes are also a new world crop, and yet nowadays the foodies insist that San Marzano in Italy makes the very best ones for cooking. (Or at least, the best canned ones!)

Finnish has a type of turnip that’s called turnipsi, but that is a specific variant of nauris, more specifically rehunauris, which means “fodder turnip”, the variants specifically for human consumption are not turnipses. Rutabaga is lanttu, which funnily enough is a variant of a word for plant (and child).

Devil’s advocate: I’m so jealous! I’m still learning parameters and arrays in Choicescript after six months of starting it.

Even when I was learning Javascript, I’ve always been slow to pick it up.

I’m so excited! The first game got me started making Renpy novels, before my blindness got too bad.

This is super relatable, it made me want to do VNs too.

Im so deep in that I’ve started writing man and woman versions of scenes.

Sounds like a nice way to give bonus content for your readers and heading off problems before they can occur.

. . .

Well, almost to the end of the month, and I can say with a lot of certainty that I failed on getting my progress for Sense & Sorcery done this month. Did get a little more prog on All the Way, though it’s been slow progress on anything last week due to real world stuff, little bit less health, and then today when I was sure I’d have plenty of time to write a bit of a hex bomb.

Read About Ed’s Bad Luck such as it was . . .

So, a while back I unfortunately discovered a mouse in my house . . . it’s an old rickety farmhouse, so what can you do? … figured I’d set up some glue traps, and somehow these were shipped stuck together, so of course this morning when I tried to take them out and set them up I got my hands completely, comically covered with glue and so had to delay my writing due to this unfortunate event. Okay, not much of a story, but still, that delayed my writing a ton.

Hoping to get a little more writing done later tonight and maybe tomorrow morning but probably won’t have to much more progress at this point. And then I have only a month yet to finish all my over ambitious goals for the year. Yup, don’t think I’m going to make those.

Hope everyone else is having more of that there luck than I am . . .

Params are great! :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes: Arrays, not so much…

ChoiceScript is actually pretty good about not needing to know stuff like that. Honestly, the added complexity often makes it worse lol.

If you need any help with them, feel free to shoot me a message

I set myself a deadline to finish and upload the HJam project on Nov 30… and then didn’t work on it much T_T I’ll be out tomorrow with friends and out on my own the day after but I’m gonna bring my laptop and try to finish it in the first week of December… Especially since the jam was in honour of Eiwynn, I deeply want to see it through. Why am I so bad with deadlines (this is rhetorical lamenting, I know exactly why e_e *glares at self*)

What I did do a surprising amount of was clean my desk/room, all because a How To ADHD video popped up on YouTube after a while of not seeing them… and then I watched this one and I just naturally felt the urge to clean alongside them. Their perspectives were very helpful and sparked some ideas, and perhaps there was an element of body-doubling too. Did a lot more to motivate me than the constant looming threat of my dad cleaning my room for me, lol.

I should sleep now. See y’all in the next month!

Good news, bad news, and everything in between.

I did get writer’s block this month, and college cooked me a bit more than expected, but the good news is that I mostly pulled through. I only have at most 6k words left to add to the update and it will be finished.

So hurray for me if I can do it.
