Oh gosh, this was really lovely to see! (Of course I don’t mind - it’s always brilliant hearing about people’s experience playing!) I’m so pleased Silviu and Danelak got their chance to go off together into the sunset. I really enjoyed writing those moments in the last chapter where it’s them being strong together in the inn despite all the odds. Thank you so much for sharing!
Edit: speaking of places, I was very inspired by Skye when I was writing, especially the beaches, - I’ve only visited once and it really made me want to go again (albeit to have a calmer time than the Noblesse Oblige characters do, haha!)
Wow, this place looks beautiful, no wonder it inspired you! I can easily imagine Pascha and MC climbing these dangerous looking rocks. It says that there’s also a ruined church and a graveyard, which really fits the Gothic aesthetic. Was it something that inspired you as well?
I hope you’ll have the opportunity to visit Skye again in the future!
I took some inspiration from Portree on Skye when I was writing about Ghatru, though Portree is probably a lot nicer! I was definitely inspired by some Eastern European churches I found pictures of - one in particular inspired me when describing the churches in the game, but I never tracked down the photo again afterwards I do have a Pinterest board of things that reminded me of the game, though!
Noblesse Oblige feels more like a prelude to a larger narrative than a self-contained story. Pascha’s journey seems just to be beginning, and while the ending suggests that I can choose their path, it also makes me wonder if this is intended as a standalone book.
Given this sense of an unfinished narrative, one can’t help but wonder if there are plans for a sequel or additional content that would expand upon the world and characters introduced in Noblesse Oblige. The game’s structure encourages a longing for more, as players become invested in the fates of the characters.
Are there any plans for a sequel or a separate story with some of the characters from the book?
Noblesse Oblige is the second of four games set in the same world, after Crème de la Crème and before Royal Affairs and Honor Bound (which is currently in beta). Each story stands alone, with a new PC and cast of major characters, but the events of earlier games are sonetimes alluded to in later ones, and a few instances of major characters from one game appearing as minor characters later in the series.
There’s data from Noblesse Oblige that carry over into Royal Affairs and Honor Bound, including your PC’s name, the genders of the PC and ROs, and what happened in the end, including the PC’s relationship status, so presumably there are some references to those characters and events in some routes of those later games, although I don’t happen to know where or how much.
There have been no plans announced for a direct continuation of the Noblesse Oblige storyline, and most CoG games that weren’t written as part of a planned series don’t end up getting sequels because the diversity of end states doesn’t lend itself to a smooth transition into another story.
I’m glad to hear that the characters drew you in! Like Aletheia says, I don’t have plans to continue their story directly - partly the endings are too disparate, and partly it’s intended as a shorter, novella-length story rather than a longer one, and to leave the futures of the characters open to players’ imagination.
About later references to Noblesse Oblige
The references to Noblesse Oblige in the later games are fairly small. Most of the events in Noblesse Oblige aren’t things that the wider world would be very aware of, either because of people working hard to keep them under wraps, and/or the people involved aren’t public figures. (If I was doing it again I would have had more about Paschal dying on some paths but it’s so rare that I was prioritising other things at the time.) There are some references to Noblesse Oblige in Royal Affairs though, and some very small and obscured character appearances in both Royal Affairs and Honor Bound but I’m not sure if anyone has noticed them.
