Have not played threw the whole game so far, however I like it and it’s quite complicated. Really good from what I have played so far.
I bought it but eehhh, not the game for me personally.
It’s like Skyrim as wide as a ocean but as deep as a puddle. There’s so many customization and options available and you can really see a lot of time has been put into this game. However because of wide variety of options everything falls short. Relationships and personalities aren’t really fleshed out, dialog is often bland and uninteresting and there isn’t a real narrative or overarching storyline.
It’s best explained as a playground to have fun in, but you need to make your own fun. I prefer my CoGs / HoGs to be story driven game with a deep focus on relationships with a exciting overarching story. Those tend to be more railroaded and not as open world as this.
So if you like more open-worlded games that give you freedom this will certainly appeal to you. But as it stands it’s not for me.
I haven’t even finished my first playthrough yet but I gotta say I like the depth of character creation and open world feeling so much.
I have done a couple of playthroughs. Quite fun. Though I was wondering how you get to encounter the vampire and all its related content? Is is a character you must romance?
Did meet the vampire on my first playthrough.
Basically, you need to go after Steel Aeronaut in Mongolia, and you may be asked to play as courier on your way to that country. if you do, you get to make a halt to a mansion where it quickly appears something fishy is going on: namely, vampires. How you play this out is up to you.
All in all, agreeing with the “ocean wide, shallow depths” comment a couple of posts above. It doesn’t really bother me, as it make for a quick, enjoyable read without much headaches, but it’s true it’s not a story that’ll stay with you for the years to come. It’s basically the CoG equivalent of a popcorn action flick: perfectly serviceable, but nothing to write home about either. It’s basically a good way to kill a few hours, and in the game’s credit, the replayability is pretty great - even if the endings are kind of weak. In two playthroughs, different choices lead to completely different outcomes - even if as far as I know, aliens at the end are unavoidable.
For the animal hybrid when you choose half human and half whatever do you automatically change into that form when fighting enemies or is it a choice?
Congratulations on the release!
My first bit of feedback is this, though: You put this as an option in a law career:
“I’m a criminal lawyer. I defend mafia and other criminals, whoever pays the most!”
Please put in an option on the hero side for “a public defender who helps the accused get a fair trial”, or something along those lines, if you’re going to have that option for villains. I really don’t like the stereotype that criminal defense lawyers are corrupt or they’re only in it for the money and to help rich crooks get off, and I think it’s a damaging stereotype, because defense attorneys fulfill a vital role in keeping the system functioning and honest.
Sorry if I’m soapboxing. This is kind of an issue for me. Again, congratulations!
Another problem: If you get a bow at the start (not an energy bow, a bow as a side item), you need to set weapon_type appropriately or you can’t make trick arrows.
Hello everyone, wondering if anyone can help with this. I noticed when I select my powers if you go with inventor it actually gives you a note in the game macannic telling you to set your intelligence first. However I don’t seem to get that with any other power types where it advises you what stat it links to. So what is best with what for example if I was to go with half animal what is the best stat to go with in regards to increasing. Also what is the best type of character to play if you chose the sivval law option in regards to choosing powers?
I really enjoyed the game. Although, it would be increasingly more fun if it were longer. I didn’t anticipate to finish this game in half a day. Aside from those, I really like the wide range of powers that we could use in combat. I also liked the variety of civilian and hero/villain costumes that we would choose from. All in all, kudos to the author for putting up a good work! Will be looking forward to the next installment for sure.
@vinny_e This game has been designed to be quite wide, rather than linear and really long. Maybe give it another read and pick lots of different options and you can end up in completely different parts of the game you haven’t seen yet
Just a quick question. In Impossible difficulty, is it literally impossible to complete a single playthrough without defeat? I noticed achievements for successful encounters in Impossible, but I don’t know if they can be collected all at once or only piecemeal across multiple playthroughs.
How can you become vampire
Decide to go to Mongolia, accept to be a courier on the way, stay at the creepy mansion, explore the place when you can, and when confronted, let the owner of the place bit you. Don’t know what happens if your psyche level is low though, because it comes with a mental domination attempt.
Anyway, went for a third playthrough, this time creating a yolo-mode MC who just maxxed out strength and constitution, went around headbutting everyone she could and insulting everyone she couldn’t without giving a shit about anything. It was… kind of hilarious, because it makes everyone else look like complete idiots, simply because no-one really reacts to your playstyle. your colleagues always come back to make nice no matter how many times you flip them off, the police is convinced you’re a hero even if you’re not even attempting to hide the fact that you just want to bash some heads, your mother seems to really know nothing about her own child… The only one who seems to react halfway realistically is your boss, who is at least pretty consistent in the way she dislike you - and even then, I was surprised I had the opportunity to quit before getting fired.
I love the Hero/Villain stuff this site hosts but… this one is pretty bad. Too much focus on “choice” and not enough on story. I say “choice” in quotations because they all lead to a bottleneck in the story, the only difference is health, reputation, ect. They don’t branch off, they just have this… THING, I guess where you have a conversation or encounter with someone(s) then go right back to the main plot. It really isn’t much different than the test build we had 6 months ago. Too many non effectual choices and not enough story.
This is my personal opinion however. Also the whole “Difficulty Level” thing is a gamebreaker. We mentioned this during testing. Not sure why it’s still a thing. Guessing the Author doesn’t like “Bad Endings”.
Ahh I see! So that’s why there’s tons of endings in this particular story. A high replayability is what some of us do value in an IF game. Thanks for letting me know!
You had me at rewinding time
Aw man, I wish we could stop time:
Can someone tell me how to get vampire lord achievement please I want to be a bad ass vampire with minions
Assuming you become a vampire - I guess that part is already covered - what I did was help the Steel Aeronaut with her plan. There was an opportunity to ask her if she wants to become a vampire, but I let it slip because I wanted to ask something else first, which unfortunately meant the opportunity didn’t present itself again (then again, perhaps she’d have said no). However, all is not lost because then you get dragged on in a fight against Shirai Yuki, and if you win, turning her becomes an option (with willpower needed to be pretty high to keep her under control, I think).
She’ll say reject the offer, and yes you need high willpower for that one.
