He’d first be very surprised, then probably say something along the lines of “Oh god, you’re actually serious?”
But, it’d probably make him despise the name a little bit less. Mind you, he’d still detest it, and detest being called it, just… not quite as much as before?
There’s definitely a lot of that with Ricky.
Her name is Grace Fideline (… yes her name is kinda a pun. Have mercy. I might change it later if the sane part of me warns me not to make it a pun.)
She’s… well, kinda like Ricky she has a sort of ‘public face’ and a ‘private face’- though she’s not as well-known as Ricky so the public face of hers was more developed during the marriage for the sake of the marriage. So while what little is known about her generally paints her as a charming, virtuous, but relatively uninteresting individual (an image she purposefully crafted for the sake of avoiding most attention), when in private she can actually come off as cold and callous, with a big sarcastic streak. In reality, she’s just honest- almost to a fault. She doesn’t ever mince her words, no matter the situation. She’s highly intelligent, very well-spoken, and actually a very, very calm person. Unflappable, even. She’ll get disappointed, happy, apathetic, etc… but not even Ricky’s ever seen her angry. All of which makes her a standout business woman.
A lot of it comes from strict discipline, her father used to be Nickelport’s Chief of Police for many years, and her mother was the daughter and heiress of a wealthy banking tycoon before taking over the business for herself- a business which is now in Grace’s name- so both of them have kinda drilled into her the ins-and-outs of society.
So, yeah! There’s a brief tidbit on Ricky’s ex-wife Grace.
@Urban That is true. It could be because of both.
Jacob won’t have lived in the same city as the MC when a cop MC was working as a cop. (But the MC can mention it, and being a cop would earn some points with Jacob as well.)
Though there is someone else that the MC will have met if they were a cop that used to work with the MC before moving to Nickelport and working there. So that person would remember the MC, and he would actually be an in for a cop MC if the cop MC wanted to get help from the local law enforcement.
Which works just fine! I want to let people just picture these characters as they want, so whatever you picture is correct for when you read it… if that makes any sense at all.
Your MC would definitely get along with Jacob on that front then. Jacob might’ve taken a stealthier, less obvious approach to trying to change the system if he actually knew how to be stealthy.
It might not be because of a specific action the MC takes, but more a result of the MC producing popular, high-quality articles that garner more attention to The Rust and then inevitably to the MC’s alias as well.
And Ricky will treat a more emotionally based relationship very different. With his previous one there was a lot of pressure to keep it together publicly but personally there wasn’t much of a risk if it fell apart. Neither parties were very broken up about losing one another, per say.
Yeah, that’s definitely gotta be fixed before anything of consequence happens.
About two years, give or take some time.
