Mind Blind (01/31 Demo Update. A Story Where You Are NOT The Chosen One!)

To expand on this: If you go to talk to your neighbor about the dogs (the neighbor being K), (S)He’ll drive you to school (at least if you insist on making sure the dogs are okay lol). This will then trigger a completely different response to seeing Nox when you have to do Rosy’s challenge later in the day.

I think it’s worth keeping in mind that this is an interactive fiction novel, not an open world RPG. Player choice is great, and I’m impressed with how much Jo is already allowing, but there is a certain amount that needs to be on rails to tell the story in a linear way. Unlike in an RPG, we can’t do quests independently of the main story, so it all has to come together, which means romances need to lock in at some point. Same with Nick, a certain level of antipathy is game-breaking, because the plot necessitates you being at least able to live and work with the man. Idk sometimes I think critique doesn’t necessarily take into account the limits of the medium.

ngl that crockpot is legitimately sus and had me going  hmmmm…

Because where was Nick when he got blown up? In Gray’s office looking at the crockpot.

But with the video evidence of the tiny black box and the fact that you get a scene from the POV of the person hacking Button’s brain in the subway scene suggest it isn’t Gray. Whoever did it doesn’t know Button is Mindblind at the beginning of the story, and learns it early on. Maybe Glitch or Kim?

I absolutely agree. Having tried my hand at this medium, it’s exhausting to account for every possible option. Jo gives us a huge amount of freedom (kudos to her for the combination of different stats and some of the tricks she does with the coding) and a lot of interactivity. It requires so much effort to write a scene multiple times, taking into account various potential outlooks on the events of the scene while still hitting important plot points. I think she does an excellent job of balancing a delightful amount of interactivity with a meaningful story, and I aspire to her level of skill.

I understand completely, and I love the idea of us developing our romantic relationship with someone; it’ll go a long way towards it not feeling tacked on. It’s also going to be so very interesting to see how Button navigates relationships with Ments other than her family and Gray. Thanks!

And thank you also for the info on the save thing. It doesn’t matter all that much for my Button right now, but I’ll restart if I face further issues down the road.

Why do you have to keep leaving me on cliffhangers :sob::sob:

Minor nitpick irrelevant to pretty much anything else in the game, but the kid in the subway refers to Yamask as a “spirit type” - the name of the type is actually “ghost”. I know it has basically no impact on the rest of the game but as a longtime Pokemon fan I felt obligated to point it out. :upside_down_face:

That’s the joke, interestingly enough. I still feel the cringe when people misname, or intentionally flub the word Pokemon, but it’s all in good fun here.

Hello. Because I’m an oblivious dumbass (can I curse on this forum cause if not I’ll change it right away) and since Ive been so busy, I did not know this game got updated until today. Around 18 days later… I’m so sorry. But I read through like around all of the 257 unread comments and wow that’s a lot to take in but it seems so cool!! But all my progress got loss :upside_down_face: so I’m gonna redo me playing it so see you all in 30 minutes top!

I think we are allowed as long as it is not directed as an insult at someone or has malicious intent. Fuck

Don’t feel bad I just realized this was updated today as well. As for the cussing you can pretty much as long as your not being rude to someone else.

Mind Blind Demo Update

Total Word Count: 162k

Average Playthrough: 37k (Same as before. There’s more branches now, however).

What’s New: All the scenes from Chapter 5

  1. Sally’s romance lock-in is this chapter, although she will also have a much later one if you decide to not go for it because of, well, there being a stupid voyeur nearby -_-

  2. Find out why Nick hates Rosy. (Note that you only get the option to write the essay if you lose in Chapter 2)

  3. Interact with K for like, 2 seconds

  4. Gray will now hug some Buttons.

  5. Glitch will quote Shakespeare to you. (The last scene has been reworked to include the ROs and hopefully smooth out the transition some).

I also completely did a rush-rewrite of Sally’s scenes this morning, so those may be more buggy than I’d like. I realized that I wanted her romance to initiate sooner rather than later. If you’re not romancing her, I would suggest playing her scene second, since she’ll then converse with you about whomever you’re romantically pursuing (except Rosy, whom you can have a convo with Nick about in a different scene).

Also, I promise that Chapter 6 will like 90% The K and Rosy Show, even though they’re not in the spotlight as much this chapter.

I only discovered this a few days ago, so it took me a while to get through the thread.

The game is certainly a lot more interesting on a second playthrough, especially once you know what you can do. For example I just assumed there was no way to win the first assignment, since Rosy seemed to design it that way. But since I’m on the Sally route, on a second playthrough, giving her a win is a no-brainer.

Still would like the relationship with the Cookie Thief to be lower though. What is the lowest you can get? Currently on 16%.
