Something funny why not poisoning kitties like theme :wink:

The adventures of: Poison Kitty!

lol

I will be setting up the board for the judgess tomorrow. I will let them decide on if we will release the theme a day or so early. Of course you are welcome to share your thoughts on it here.

@poison_mara
Poisoning kitties…?

Like hello kitty but badass with a crossbow and poison bolts. CHARMING DEATHLY KITTY

I’d like to offer a prize of my own: $100 for the best supporting character.

What do I mean by best? I’ll be looking for characters which are:

  • Interesting – Make us care about the character. Whether we love them or hate them, give us an emotional investment in who they are and whatever they’re trying to do.
  • Rounded – George R.R. Martin lets his readers see characters from several angles and, I’d like to see more CoG games do the same. Robert Baratheon was a trusted friend to Eddard Stark, but an awful husband to Cersei Lannister. Jaime Lannister dishonoured his oath and was willing to murder an innocent child, but (if you read the books) you can understand where he was coming from. I’d like to see characters who feel like real human beings, rather than cookie-cutter heroes and villains.
  • Able to be affected in a meaningful way by the Main Character and their actions - Dragon Age offers a couple of good examples of this: naïve and idealistic characters who can become more cynical and callous depending on the choices which the MC makes. I’d like the decisions which the MC makes to have a real impact both on the character and on the game-world. Perhaps the choices which the MC makes can turn that previously unassuming squire into a true paragon of chivalry, an overzealous crusader, a brutal robber baron or a wine-soaked and embittered failure. Or perhaps you murder him, and this leads to complications later in the story. Another example might be an antagonist who you can kill, imprison, redeem or join in plotting acts of villainy.
  • A source of entertaining dialogue options with the Main Character @TinStar has a real talent for this. Keep it fresh and interesting, and give the MC the chance to get in a few good lines as well.

While I’ll welcome recommendations from the other judges, I’ll make the ultimate decision as to which supporting character merits the prize.

@LordIrish I can can go either way, but I am more leaning to writing than judging, for the simple fact of me just plain procrastinating on my old project XD.

@lordirish So will you just pm us… or?

@Protagonist
That’s very generous of you, thank you (on behalf of all the participants!).
I think it’s a very good thing to reward, hopefully that’ll motivate people to invest a lot of time into their characters.

Maybe if we’re lucky we’ll see a character resembling Elizabeth/Bioshock Infinite?
Only with more variation on outcome? I just think she’s a great example of a supporting character/NPC you actually grow to like, love and give an actual bop about.

@protagonist a really wonderful idea. @Lordirish when you need us to send us a PM.

@CJW I haven’t played Bioshock, but it sounds as though we’re thinking along similar lines. I find that having a strong cast of supporting characters really enriches games and, as an avid CS reader, I’d love to see more of it.

@poison_mara Thanks!

@Protagonist
It certainly does, particularly in choice based games. I think Mass Effect will always be my first grand example there :slight_smile:

@Lordirish
Hereby declaring my intent to enter!
But just to clarify, we can use mods and pre-written code, as long as the story and game “content” is brand new?
Obvious examples including the save mod, but also say for example, someone like JimD entered and wanted to use his inventory system from ZE. Would that be ok?
I have some old cs routines lying around that I would like to put to good use :slight_smile:

By coding my game will definetly be the worst :wink:

Looking forward to this.

Sorry all RL has had me very busy but getting back on track.

@CJW yes that is correct.

@Protagonist
That is truely cool. happy to add this into the judging.

@allthejudges
I am behind on thing so please let me know if you think if we should release the the theme a few days early, thanks.

Lord, I prefer not due some people don’t look forums everyday. If they have a certain day to know theme, publish theme before dont same fair for them, its give a advantage to more online members .

I agree more or less with Mara on this one

@Lordirish Would you like the judges to help you choose a theme for the competition? If so, then there’s no harm in having a chinwag behind the scenes to thresh things out. Otherwise, there isn’t anything for us to do until the contest ends and the submissions start rolling in.

I agree with @poison_mara and @817819 that we should stick to the published start date.

I am working on the board for the judges now but may not be ready until tomorrow night. We can talk about the type of themes once I have it setup.
