You get to play as a dinosaur.

Will you fight for your survival or die trying?
Will you find a mate?
Will you live to old age?

Fun! I think for those of us who don’t know as much (me, I mean me), it would be nice to have a brief description of the differences between the Triassic, Jurassic, and Cretaceous Period before we move on. Also maybe a common name (if there is one) or a brief physical description of the dinosaur types. I mean I know there is a description of them, but for people who don’t know off hand what “theropod” or “sauropod” might physically imply (I’m actually somehow not talking about me this time, huh, that’s a nice feeling), it would probably help them to visualize the dino better (without having to leave the game to google bc no one wants to do that). But I do like that you gave us the info you did on them.

I’m gonna be real: I do not know what I expected from a gendered dino names list, but Dylan and Kaylee were not it. :joy:

Got a game breaker when I tried to use the stats screen.

I think it needs a bit more content; it’s pretty short. That’s not a problem itself; you can still get useful feedback on it, but at the point it ends now, I don’t think it’s as representative of what you want the game to be. I also think it could use a grammar pass. Grammar isn’t the most important thing at this point, but there are a few instances where it will help clarify things and increase readability.

This is a fun idea (and it fills me with the kind of nostalgia I like!) so I wish you luck with it! Thanks for sharing it!

I plan on adding stats and a glossary for the next update since I haven’t implemented it yet.As far as word count goes, It’s only at 2,000 words at the moment. Lastly, thanks to your suggestion, I will add the dinosaurs common names(the ones I can find anyway) since I hadn’t thought of that. Thank you for playing my game and thank you for your feedback. :slightly_smiling_face:

The dinosaur names are really immersion-breaking :sweat_smile:

Perhaps they could have names which sound more dinosaur-like? I’m not sure if I can think of examples though.

The mighty Megalosaurus!

OP, I love the premise on this. But I would hazard to say you don’t really need a name? Or if you do, maybe go with some Land Before Time-style names. Sharptooth and Littlefoot and the like.

Well I named my Coelophyhsis CeeLo Green because maybe I’m crazy, so I probably won’t be much help with names. Still naming after color or defining characteristics would work well enough for animals names for each other. Red Patch, Bent Tail, etc.

I use character names because using to scent other characters would be absolute nightmare to work with, but I will change the names for the next update.

Would you guys like to me to put up the pronunciation alongside the dinosaur info or leave it out?

You could make a poll… also make one for the species of dinosaur people here are most excited to see.

EDIT:

Copy the section below

Should dinosaur name pronunciations be provided in the game?

[poll type=multiple results=always min=1 max=2 public=true chartType=bar]
* Place it in the stats screen
* Place it alongside the dinosaur info
* Do not include it
* Other (Please comment)
[/poll]

I am thinking about replacing 2 dinosaurs so I’ll do that, thanks for the help.

…I keep reading “dinosaur people”

Should dinosaur name pronunciations be alongside the dinosaur info?

I guess I’d kind of agree, though with the addition that it depends on the tone of the story - a dinosaur story can have many forms. If we are going for more Disney like content for younger readers, which is totally fine and valid, then I’d say normal human names are just fine. If we are aiming for something a little more edgy, yes, it might be nice to have options.

I wouldn’t press to far as the coding might get distracting, but if you have time for it and want to you could make it optional as far as what style of names for the players to have, so that the player might choice perhaps options such as human style names, phonetic style names, nature themed names, etc. For myself I tend to think the more options the better, though it would take a while to encode.

Few examples of the later two categories if wanted:
Phonetic style: Azka, Greekch, Threek (basically word sounds with harsh, gnashing components that kind of allow the growling bit to come through)
Nature style: Mistbreeze, Skycall, Treeshade (basically take two nature words and combine them, more or less)

My review on the game:

So far, so fun. As an older player I definitely get Land Before Time vibes from it, which suits me fine, though there’s a lot of different ways one could go. if that’s your goal I think you’re on track. Probably as its new and there aren’t many paths completed so far, but worth mentioning that my plant eating baby dino was fed insects by their parent. Looking forward to see how the game develops!
