Hopefully canon accepted!! But the MC might take that to mean that Marxus underestimates his strength, or even as a subtle insult. Miscommunications incoming! Probability of MC purposely choosing the jousting event increasing…

That was intentional. My MC would likely be even more determined to challenge his brother, just to prove himself and earn respect.
It would probably give us a ding to our relationship stat once Marxus saw out name in the lists. How it goes from there is up to the player. Likewise, if the MC did follow his advice, it would be reasonable to give us a relationship boost at some point.

Yup. It’s all in the wording. I feel slightly insulted too. I feel like my MC would be hurt by his brother’s words, but resigned. He would probably drop the tournament altogether. Or maybe he would just go for archery and settle for a decent position. Still, it would take any enjoyment he might get out of it. Any enthusiasm would turn sour in his mouth.

The tragedy is that, as it was written, Marxus is trying to give a sincere but vague warning. He is trapped by secrets, just as the MC was with Mel for so many years.
The reaction that you and Sab gave was the perfect, actual reaction any normal human being would have. It was interpreted like an insult. Beyond the vague nature of the warning, Marxus also has issues with connecting to people. (His dinner conversation shows as much, though I think it is a departure from how he talked in the earlier necklace scene.)

Marus really put his foot in his mouth this time. smh I felt that there was a big dif between regular Marxus and dinner Marxus. He seems so tense and stiff. It makes me wonder what happened that we don’t know about, or whether he was doing the same thing most of us were: focusing on his wife. Maybe he noticed her being jealous.
Well Melissa do can be quite obvious… it’s can also because of his more heavier pressure as time passes

Head canon is that he had a talk with his dad and was clued into his plans. Whether he agrees or not can stem from the relationship stat. He does know that it is foolish to go against his father and probably goes along for self preservation.
Wife issues also probably play into it as well. I know full well that it can be a source of frustration at times. However, where Mel ranks in Marxus’ priorities is unknown. (We don’t know of any mistresses or brothel runs atm.)

A fact that she just left that makes obvious if you ask me, it’s stated that mc and Melissa are really close best friend weird that she then avoid mc all the time after the marriage announcement. Besides marxus can also take notice of how Melissa always looking mc before and after their marriage.
Considering his backstory, I doubt he’d have any mistresses or go to brothels, just because he wouldn’t want to sire any bastards like him.

Never underestimate the desperation of a sexually frustrated male. Unless this guy is Jesus or really pious, then those “unmet needs” can drive one to their wit’s end.
I mean, if a lustful MC somehow excused himself from Sophia on their wedding night. He’d probably have all the more reason to hunt down a Stephanie. (Not that I condone such behavior, mind you. 
)
That going to be the case if he sensible guy, we know too little of him to know is he actually lustful or not (but I really hope he not)

Just one more reason why it can’t happen. I’m sure Marxus knows that, and I’m sure he’ll do everything he can to keep it from happening.
Or he do what king andus can do to him if andus actually bother to do it(the one about hiding his bastard that I previously talking about). But of course IF he do have bastard, he seems loyal to Melissa considering his mind quite full of why Melissa disappear at MC wedding.
