Well, I know you are a GRRM fan but remember this is a choice game. If the player can prevent death through his/her actions, then you need to permit free will.
For instance, today I had to create a dark/sadistic choice where I didn’t have one originally. I tend not to think of evil as it is against my personality but some can choose “the dark side.”

It is important, for King Andus’ character development.
What he feels when knowing his friend die?
Some deaths are “ok.” MC isn’t God and isn’t omnipresent. I just hate the thought of “everyone” getting killed off. Might as well cast armageddon and wipe everything out.
I have already planned each Dukes’ deaths. For example; Duke Jaden will die to assassination.
Can we save him or any Duke.
