Well, after a civil war, Duke Jeromes armies are going to be weakened, so he probably wont revolt.
Are you sure i think he was serious
I mean, he is right.
Clearly you haven’t read The Prince. Being a saint is the second worst way to rule. Being evil means your feared, but also doesn’t stop you from being rational and liked, which is the best way to rule.
Just wait until you get overthrown and executed
I dont agree but you do you man
Tell that to Fidel Castro he was feared but loved by his people. He ruled for decades
I meant it as a joke
There are many examples in history that say otherwise.
I hate history so much.
I meant it as a joke I’m sorry if you thought i was serious
I love history and psychology. I hate the sciences and math.
@Crosdice its fine, I just didnt read it as a joke😅.
Isn’t life a laugh and death is joke.
Yeah i probably should of made it clear it was a joke
Thats kinda depressing
Clearly you don’t know me. Any who, lets get back on topic.
Good idea (20 on topic characters)
I know I am full of them. Oh I got an idea kill javier.
I’ve begun to rethink my hatred/passive disliking for Princess Sophia and overall preference towards Melissa and came towards two conclusions:
1). I am projecting my passive and borderline apathetic personality into my MC
Or rather I play from a reactive perspective which is potentially a source of my MC’s malaise. I retain conflicted feelings over whether I want the crown or if its even my right, being a Second Prince does leave my role and purpose far less clear than that of Marxus whose heir apparent. Perhaps it still to early but I’ve realized that my MC currently lacks any personal convictions and does not actively strive for power but simply adapts to the whims of others (namely his parent’s manipulations).
Thus to realize himself as an individual my MC must become assertive if there is any hope for him to control his own destiny. My MC will always love his mother but over-reliance will make him weaker. As for King Andus, I admire him for the warrior he is but otherwise resent him for being a cranky man child.
My MC needs to find his strength and gain from it the power and self-assurance he needs that he is indeed a worthy heir to rule Darvis and a potential King others would look up to. To make his own decisions and be able to stand by them rather than be defeated and become a resentful pawn like Princess Sophia.
I don’t who Aless was but I resent her, sometimes I wonder if she was a prostitute or a witch but maybe she and Andus were genuine lovers. Regardless if it wasn’t for her Andus would only have one son, the MC, whose future would be certain, but instead the stupid King can’t get over the memory of that dead lowborn and likely favors Marxus because of his resemblance, while the MC reminds Andus of Victoria for whom he holds no apparent affection.
2). Ultimately I don’t really have a reason to like Princess Sophia
My MC’s relationships:
Sophia: Cannot understand her, distrusts her, recognizes her political value and wishes to exploit that but prefers avoiding her entirely
Queen Victoria: Wants to live up to her expectations
King Andus: A mindless brute, humiliated to be under his control
Marxus: Tries to be friendly but remains suspicious
Melissa: Does not truly ‘love’ her but ‘needs’ her
Clithus: Recognizes her for the oddity that is a female knight, making her a wildcard but assumes she is an ally of Sophia so does not trust her.
I’ve come to realize that… my MC only ‘loves’ Melissa to the extent she’s the only one in his life who doesn’t hinder him or actively display hostility towards him, hence she is his only real emotional crutch. But he isn’t much invested in Melissa as a person, she is his only outlet for what he perceives as a source of genuine affection.
I… still have trouble understand all this Princess Sophia love, from my MC’s perspective she just spews out venom from their very first encounter, he feels imprisoned by her but recognizes her political importance, leaving him quite frustrated. A part of him that hasn’t matured from childhood likes to pretend she doesn’t exist so that he can feel free and not have to bear the hostility of this stranger he was forced to wed.
But putting all that aside, if I try to make the MC be as accommodating as possible, I have to question, what is the point of making Princess Sophia fall in love with you?
Only thing I know about her is that she likes to draw and considers me an enemy. Not exactly someone I desire to learn more about on a personal level since she is kind of shallow and unappealing from the start, though I get her introduction was supposed to be brief and we can eventually discover more about her, the stepping stone of her character makes it unappealing to want to like her on a personal level, at least for me.
In other words her initial aesthetic makes it unappealing to want to get to know more. She’s cold and hostile 98% of the time, her only second layer seems to be her brief moments of surprise if the MC can tolerate her, indicating she is more than what she appears, then there is the thinnest third layer is the mentioning of her friendship with Clithus, which does indicate that she can form bonds with others.
So there is definitely more to her, however with the MC she is only hostile which is understandable given her position but begs the question why should the MC give her a chance to explore her other layers, since from his perspective she’s a hindrance to his personal happiness?
Her defiance at the wedding while bold, seemed more foolish than brave. Part of me wondered if she had some kind of death wish. Doesn’t she realize she’s a hostage? Intentionally antagonizing herself to all the nobles of an enemy nation didn’t make her seem as some prize that the player could win through hard work, rather it filled me with dismay at the realization of the trouble I had been paired with.
As I worked out just why I disliked Princess Sophia I began to understand why I was increasingly drawn towards Melissa - she was the only one who seemed to unconditionally love the MC, not to mention the two had known each other for years.
Sophia treats the MC with unconditional hostility whilst Melissa seems to have unconditional love, at this point for my MC it seems like Melissa is the only one who truly loves him for who he is whilst everyone else holds their own expectations for him (except Marxus, he doesn’t talk to the MC anymore).
I’ve been reminded somewhat of the Rem vs Emilia debate from Re Zero, where Emilia is the beautiful half elf Princess the MC strives to become worthy for, as he is in love with her smile and caring nature.
Rem is a cute demon maid who loves the MC for who he already is and doesn’t want him to change, offering him her unconditional love, which he rejects because pursuing Emilia’s affections will change and improve him into a better person than he currently is.
Except in the case of Princess Sophia… I couldn’t pick up on any initial traits to fall in love with, thus am completely dismissive of her feelings, I don’t understand why the MC should go out of their way to change to appeal to her.
Melissa is the only other fleshed out option at the moment, from her initial appearance she seemed sweet and considerate, someone my MC wouldn’t want to hurt and she grew up into a beautiful woman who loves the MC.
But now because of Princess Sophia she’s turning yandere (or was always yandere?) and soon my MC will despair at the loss of the woman he once loved turning into something else. Although currently I found her water prank at Sophia’s expense kind of cute and maybe a relationship could still work out with Melissa.
Why do you not want her to fall in love with you? She can strengthen your relationship with enemy kingdom (allegedly for now), she knows Bad-ass magic, she can advise you on how to strengthen your defense as she’s very highly perceptive…
Furthermore I’d like to ask you, Why do you not trust Sophia or Clithus?
Also
She was already a ‘yandere’
“Prank”!? It was more of an attack to soothe her personal grudge against Sophia for marrying MC…and I don’t understand why do you even trust Melissa more she’s already married to Marxus and has done so willingly for her family name and MC had no choice but to marry Sophia and neither did she have a choice so it was not like Sophia was trained by spymasters and sent to Daria to investigate she’s as much of a victim of “war” as MC is…
