I still don’t understand all this hate Marxus is suddenly getting for doing his duty and obeying his monarch.

Because ‘doing his duty’ also equals to ‘marrying his little brother’s childhood love and soon-to-be wife for no apparent reason other than to spite his brother’. Sure, it’s the king’s fault, but that doesn’t excuse him from not objecting to it, nor does it excuse him from not promising his little brother that he won’t lay with her. I mean, he’s the first prince, so he’s next in line for the throne, can’t he just promise his brother that the marriage will just be a facade and as soon as he’s king, that he’ll get a divorce? Would it create a political stir-up if that were to happen? Yes, but it’ll be more preferable than having a vengeful little brother that could potentially start a civil war.
At least, that’s what seems to be the reason of hate from camp Malissa, I doubt that camp Sophia hate him though

Dang! I didn’t even think like that, Marxus I thought was pretty cool, but your right he didn’t even promise his little brother he wouldn’t touch her intimately. Well… well my opinion of him is changing😣
Well Marxus and Melisa are married, which means they would be expected to sire an offspring, its ridiculous to assume that Marxus has some duty not to have a child by Melisa just to keep his little brother’s delicate ego in check.
Marriage was not about romanticism back in feudal times, it was a political arrangement for the social order, operating on logic not those pesky self-destructive emotions.
Besides how would Marxus refuse to marry her, it was an order from the King, the highest authority.
Although now that I think about I’m beginning to understand somewhat as to why the MC would hate Marxus - stealing his first love, even though he had no real choice in the matter. Still that doesn’t make Marxus the villain nor does it compel him not to have consensual relations with his own wife.
Which begs the question… what would actually happen if Melisa did become pregnant with Marxus’s child?
